From an e-mail dated September 6, 2006"We had a beautiful two weeks of sunshine, fireworks, Illumination Night and Ag Fair."
This very clean, attractive, and comfortable home is well-located to Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. The kitchen is well-stocked and there's lots of "living space." The outdoor spaces are also inviting and were thoughtfully designed. The master bedroom is spacious; the other bedrooms are small with twin beds, but adequate , and there are fans provided for all the bedrooms. The owner was prompt in responding to our questions and has provided a lovely vacation retreat for his guests.
We had a fabulous stay on Martha's Vineyard with your house as our comfortable base camp. Great location for us, with good access to bike path, grocery store, 3 towns centers of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven a short drive away.
We were 2 families with a group of teen-agers and they were able to hop on bikes and ride to beaches and into Edgartown a few times. We did bring a car with us, and were very happy we did as it made it simpler and more economical to transport our group of 7 around, loading up with groceries, and for day trips to the beach.
We most enjoyed the private outdoor spaces of the house, including fountain and deck areas for morning coffee and reading. The sleeping arrangements worked great for our group, although a few mattresses need updating. The other surprising treat was the gas fireplace that was very nice on the one rainy and cool day we had. The house in general has not been greatly updated, could use some newer furnishings, but overall was comfortable and clean, and relaxing.
The owner Paul was very helpful and appreciative of feedback about our stay. We would definitely return to the house for another stay if we decide to return to the Vineyard. And we highly recommend a stop in to Bad Martha's Brew Pub for good beer and backgammon!
Centrally located, easy to get to Edgartown and OB. Beautiful gardens and deck space. Our family had a great time on MV. Great house to gather in and hang out. Professionally cleaned. Only constructive comment would be that some of the beds could use new mattresses and the kitchen supplies could use an update.
The home was centrally located providing easy access to Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, and Oak Bluffs! We arrived to find an attractive home with great landscaping and multiple back decks where we ate our meals and enjoyed the evening hours. The kitchen, dining room and living room were all large enough to accommodate 6 adults and 3 children ages 5-8. Two full bathrooms and the outdoor shower were enough that everyone was able to get ready for the day without waiting.
We have been vacationing on the Island for the past 12 years and feel we have found a home we hope to return to year after year!
We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend when my son was getting married in Oak Bluffs. The property worked very well for us - 8 adults and a 14 month old. Plenty of space so we weren't bumping into each other and a lovely deck with grill plus a garden to wander in.
Paul, the owner, was very helpful. He provided a high chair for our granddaughter and gave us suggestions as to where we might hold the rehearsal dinner. (We can recommend Chesca's in Edgartown.) All arrangements for our stay went very smoothly.
The family room is very nice and comfortable and full of light. (The sofa bed as a bed, however, is not at all comfortable.)
With a little one amongst our party, the washer and dryer were a big help.
The property was clean but it could do with a bit of updating - wear and tear over the years is beginning to show in spots.
The property is conveniently located between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. There is a bus stop just around the corner and the bike trail is right there. The sound of traffic from the road was not intrusive.
Although not luxurious, this is a nice and good value property to rent on Martha's.
A note of caution as to suitability: The loft bedroom is accessed by an almost vertical ladder and so is not suitable for elderly adults or young children. The spacing on the railing on the upstairs balcony is not close enough to stop a very young child from squeezing through.
We enjoyed our trip tremendously. The house was beyond charming and it was fully equipped. The area can not be better and the back yard is beautiful. We used all of it. Dealing with the owner was easy and pleasant.. I would definitely recommend it to a friend and would like to come back in the future.
