Everything was perfect! The house had more than enough room for us and was very clean!
Would come back and stay there anytime! Fyi...the water pressure was amazing.
Good Spot for a group but not perfect
This house was good for a group, but didn't meet our expectations completely. We were locked out of the house for the first 30 minutes upon our arrival, as the door code was incorrect. The host didn't return our phone calls for 30 minutes, so we stood in the front of the house just waiting. Not a great start! The house itself was perfect for a group - spacious enough for 6-8 adults. We liked using the kitchen too cook and enjoyed the quiet neighborhood. There were no kayaks as advertised. We weren't told that we had to provide our own linens and towels until a few days before check in. This would have been helpful to know upfront, as it was an added expense for us and a hassle to rent through a company. Not worth the expensive fee- next time we'll stay closer to town for the same price.
Do Not Stay Here
Let me start from the beginning. I originally booked this property on another website on 2/1/16 for $X (with a $Y refundable deposit). On 6/22/16, I received an email informing me the reservation was canceled. When I called the owner, Tom, he explained he removed his properties from the other website due to some issue between he and the website. I asked if we could rebook, and he asked how much I paid. When I told him the price, he said, "that's the old price." I had to renegotiate the price with him or risk not having a place to stay for me and five others. Anyone who knows Martha's Vineyard knows you will not find an affordable place to stay a few weeks out from a trip in August. We "agreed" Tom would keep the $Y refundable deposit. What choice did I have?
When I arrived to the house on 8/25/16, I called Tom for the code to the door. Tom said he thought we were scheduled to arrive the next day (we weren't). He said he still needed to clean the house, but we could enter anyway (neither he nor anyone else came to finish cleaning). After moving our luggage into the house, we observed there were no sheets or towels available, and there were locks on the linen closets. I called Tom back to get the combination for the locks, but Tom explained he did not provide those items to guests. Had I known in advance, I would have prepared accordingly. This necessitated a greater cost of renting these items. The only solution Tom offered was using dirty sheets and towels in a pile on the basement floor he had not yet cleaned only because he thought we were coming a day later. On further examination of the house after being settled in, it was not in good shape. The front screen door hangs and provides very little protection and there were insect remains on the walls. None of the dishes or silverware in the kitchen were clean. They all had some crud or crust on them from previous use, and every item was placed haphazardly into the cupboards. Everyone in the house was apprehensive about using anything in the kitchen. What's more is the internet died on the second day of our trip. I declined to ask for any assistance from Tom due to my lack of faith that he would be of any help.
I've stayed in many homes on Martha's Vineyard, and this was the worst I've ever experienced. I would not advise anyone to stay in this home or do business with its owner.
Most of the problems that Ryan is discussing is a result of Flip key being acquired by trip adviser. I had listed with flip key a few years earlier. I did not know that that listing was still active. As a result when trip adviser acquired flip key it made all those listings live, including mine. As a result in early spring, I realized that many of my weeks were double booked because the trip advisor website had not been updated when others used Home away to book. I called and spoke to the trip adviser representative in the spring. They said they said I could cancel all of the bookings from trip adviser and they would address the concerns of all their customers and I was no longer going to list with trip adviser. They never did that. So as a result in June there were still three potential guests that had issues. Ryan was one of them. Since I had the weekend that Ryan was interested in available, I made an effort to try to rent to him. Since the old website had rates from two years ago, the rate Ryan was originally quoted was more than $800 less then the current rate. I wanted to try to accommodate Ryan so I made a substantial reduction to the rate. Ryan agreed.
Since Ryan apparently never saw the current website since it is very clear that linens are not included. Having the guest provide there own linens is very common on the island. As it happens, I was in the house a few hours before Ryan showed up. The cleaners had already been by and the property was very clean. When Ryan asked about the linens and attempted to get into the owners closet I gave him the information about how to either rent linens or he could use the linens in the basement. This was an effort just to try to accommodate him since he wasn't aware that linens were not included.
I wish Ryan had continued to reach out to me as I had no idea that he was unhappy with the property and I would have tried to continue to accommodate him.
I rented this property for Labor day weekend. It was a perfect distance from town, we were able to walk but were still away from the noise at night. There was enough room for a large group of people and it was very well kept. Would definitely recommend!
Great week with the family!
Great location, great price and lots of amenities. The house had loads of things that our kids could utilize from boogie boards to kayaks to bikes. House was spacious and well equipped. Owners were very accommodating with our arrival faux pas!!! The whole family had a great week. Enjoyed all the beaches and downtown Oak Bluffs. Kids loved the carousal.
This was one of the most relaxing weeks we've had in a long time. The house was clean and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Close to town, but far enough away to forget that you even have neighbors. We even got to see a fireworks show in town. For a really good dinner, go to Thai Cuisine.
Glad you enjoyed your stay. It is an island oasis.
