Welcome to the Flying Seahorse in Oak Bluffs! It's a classic, circa 1870s, updated beach cottage, located in the Copeland Historic District area, which is just steps to Oak Bluffs Town Beach/ The Inkwell, an easy 5 minute walk to downtown Oak Bluffs (Circuit Ave), Ocean Park, and Oak Bluffs Ferry. This beach cottage has 4 bedrooms (plus 1 boxcar room with loft beds accessible by ladder) and 2 full bathrooms (each with shower, one bath per floor). The cottage sleeps 10. Ask for a floor plan to be emailed to you. Air-conditioning units are in the upstairs bedrooms, downstairs bedroom and living room for your comfort!

The cottage features a modern, granite kitchen with a dishwasher, & garbage disposal, with all the gadgets you need to prepare your vacation meals. Outdoors you will find an outside shower and gas grille. The cottage has ocean views and is across from Seaview Ave. You can sit out on 3-season porch or the private front, 2nd floor balcony and enjoy an ocean view with your morning coffee.

No Car? No Problem! We provide bulky items so you don't need to haul them over from the mainland, such as: beach chairs, a cooler, linens (sheets, pillowcase, blankets), bath towels, (even beach towels just ask), beach toys for the kids, tennis rackets, basketballs (for local public courts).

Catch great bike routes from Sea View Ave. Downtown Oak Bluffs is a short 5 minute walk where you can dine out or visit many retail stores. Don't miss the country's oldest carousel in downtown Oak Bluffs. Waban Park is one street over, great for kite flying and playing ball. Ocean Park is about 4 small blocks away. Also the town's tennis and basketball courts (newly paved) are a short walk from the cottage.

In July & August, this is weekly rental, 7 night minimum rental or 14 nights is also an option. Check ins and check outs are on Sundays. No pets are allowed.

Although it's nice to unplug, the cottage has Wifi with a code for those who want to stay connected, as well as HDTVs with cable in living room, 4 bedrooms. Pay cable stations (such as HBO) in living room only, along with a Roku.

There is one, convenient downstairs bedroom that has 1 king-size bed, perfect for those who may have difficulty with the steep staircase to the 2nd floor. It has cable HDTV and a window air conditioner.

Upstairs bedrooms include:

Green room: 1 queen size bed, window air conditioner, cable HDTV

Pink/ Purple Room: 1 Double bed, 1 twin bed, window air conditioner, cable HDTV

Loft Room, Boxcar room: 1 Double Bed, 1 twin Bed, accessed by ship ladder only (this room is not suitable for young children, best for teens and older children)

Yellow Room: 1 Double bed, 1 twin bed, window air conditioner, cable HDTV

Please ask for a floor plan to be emailed to you.

Comfy mattresses are on every bed with fully-encased, non-vinyl, waterproof allergy mattress covers and pillow covers. We provide linens (sheets, pillowcases, blankets) and bath towels. We also start you out with: coffee filters, garbage bags, liquid hand soap at every sink, a new and clean dish sponge at the kitchen sink, a bottle of Dawn liquid, Cascade dishwasher pods, laundry detergent, rolls of paper towels, and rolls of toilet paper.

We like to have contact with our guests to ensure that the cottage is the right fit for them. It is an antique cottage, not a party house, and located in a very quiet neighborhood. Since it is in-town, the houses are very close together and people are respectful of noise levels. It's not that you can't have fun though. You can also email us through this site with your inquiry. Please tell us about yourself and your party. Visit our Facebook page @theflyingseahorseMV to learn more about the area, and all of what Oak Bluffs offers, and amenities!

Perfect location for our family.

  • 5 of 5

The Flying Seahorse cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The layout and feel of the cottage was exactly as we anticipated. The beach is right there, really. We loved letting our older kids walk to town by themselves. It was great that we didn’t even use the car much, unless we wanted to go up island. The only downside was that we had some rainy days. It was just a rainy summer. But despite the rain, it was still quite pleasant to gather on the front porch, sip cocktails, and enjoy some good seafood from the Oak Bluffs fish market. We had a fun and relaxing week!

Nice and Clean!!

  • 5 of 5

Place was clean and neat. We have not always had the best luck staying at places near here, especially with ages of these cottages. I think rental agents forget about some rentals or something. Some owners stop caring or think a property manager is handling everything. We’ve had our share of bad rental experiences. I’ve always preferred to work directly with owners anyway. I also make a point to speak to them on the phone. When we got information about this cottage prior to our check-in, like four pages with lots and lots of details from the owners, I just knew it was going to be a great place. And I was right! The cottage was clean, well-stocked, plenty of amenities and the location is the best. Owners were just awesome to work with, very detailed oriented, which I really appreciated. We even got the floor plan sent to us before booking. That was a first, and very helpful. Then we knew where to have everyone sleep. Also loved having sheets and towels included too, saved us time, space in our car, and money on renting them! AC was great! We went to the beach like 3-4 times a day, caught almost every sunrise. The beach is that close! Will be back!

Don't want to share my secret in Oak Bluffs.

  • 5 of 5

Don’t want anyone else to discover this place and want to keep it for myself and my family. LOL. The Flying Seahorse (love the name BTW) is great. Trust me, it’s hard to find good places near the beach in Oak Bluffs. Many places are way, way more money, and other places we’ve stayed in are total dives. Still other places say they are walking distance to everything, but that can mean a very long walk when you’re carrying a cooler and beach chairs, or a long walk to town on a busy street with no sidewalk. So when you find a great place like the Flying Seahorse, so close to the beach and you’re beach goers like we are plus we like downtown OB, you don’t exactly want to yell it from the roof tops. This place is a gem. It’s an old cottage, yes, like the whole area, but the owners have done lots of work to it. I actually had the privilege of visiting it years ago when the grandparents were still alive. Yes, I’m that old. Now, grandson and wife are doing a great job with it. You can tell they’ve put their heart and soul into this place, keeping grandparents legacy. They were very invested in making sure our stay was great. Nice.

Great fun! Best location! Nice touches.

  • 5 of 5

We had a blast at the Flying Seahorse. The Oak Bluffs beach is right there. Downtown is so close. The place was well stocked, well appointed. We had everything we needed. The kitchen is great. The owners were very helpful in providing suggestions on what to see while we were there and had some good restaurant suggestions. We flew kites at the park nearby. Having sheets and towels was so convenient. AC was nice. We liked the outdoor shower. We enjoyed hanging on the front porch at night and planning our the next day. We grilled a lot. I liked having my morning coffee on the upstairs balcony before everyone woke up. It was convenient to have cable TV, roku and games when it rained. Information provided beforehand was very helpful too. Perfection.

Can't wait to go back! Awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

You could say we're regulars to Martha's Vineyard, mostly to Oak Bluffs. We've stayed at a lot of places over the years. Of all of the places, The Flying Seahorse was definitely the best value when we look at what we got, its size, its amenities, its location. Mostly, the owners are fantastic and available for questions, even though they don't live on Martha's Vineyard. They also have a few caretakers who do live there. One of the caretakers had to make a visit during our stay because of something we did (not the owners' fault at all!). He was courteous and very efficient, and we really appreciated that. The place is clean, updated, and there are AC window units in the bedrooms and living room. AC is huge, at our age we can't stay in any place without AC. We also loved having sheets and towels provided. It is really expensive to rent linens on the island. The owners really thought of everything in the kitchen. We cooked a lot of meals there. The location is the best. We went to the beach all of the time and walked into downtown a lot. A few of us also took part in the Polar Bears tradition at the Inkwell beach almost every morning, and it was so convenient to just walk over. Kids also loved the loft beds for sleeping and reading. We had 3 generations staying, and it provided something for everyone. Already planning for the same week next year.

Clean, Convenient, Comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing. First, it was so well organized and the owners thought of EVERYTHING. So many nice touches that were very much appreciated. The place was so clean and comfortable. We haven't always had the best luck on the island with cleanliness of places, and it's always a worry before you check in. We were pleasantly surprised! The place looks better than the pictures. We loved having linens and towels provided. We had a blast because the location was perfect for the beach and downtown. We never had to drive. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed. Owners were awesome with communication. Can't wait to come back. Loved having AC. We will never stay at another vacation place on the Vineyard without air conditioning!! Mattresses were quite comfortable and appreciated the allergy-proof coverings on the mattresses and pillows too. I almost don't want to submit this review because I want to keep this place a secret. I'm finally sitting down to write this review because my family is still talking about this place 4 months later! Thank you!
