This elegant luxurious farmhouse has been immaculately restored over several years to create the perfect getaway for one or two families.
Its position high over the Rhone Valley gives it spectacular views towards the distant Alps from most windows and from the lovely 11 metre saltwater pool.
Kick back and relax in its calming surroundings, or go on adventures climbing, swimming or canoeing along the stunning Ardeche Gorge.
The Bulthaup kitchen offers every facility you could need, or you can book a chef to do it all for you! We recommend an excellent service that's tried and tested.
The property is extremely spacious, well thought out and an ideal place for either catching up with friends and family - or just enjoying quiet time to read, paint, study, or just admire the views.
Then when you venture out there are fine wines and excellent restaurants to be sampled too.
You also have the option of renting the adjoining two bedroomed apartment, and courtyard bedrooms. The apartment is completely self contained, and could be ideal for another family offering privacy, while being only moments from the group.
The only difficulty you'll have at The Old Silk Farm will be leaving at the end of your stay.
The Old Silk Farm's farmhouse sleeps 4 adults and 5 children in complete comfort with space for everyone to spread out, enjoying quiet time when desired, and coming together as a group to celebrate the beauty of the house and its surroundings.
Children will have a ball in the 5 bed bunk room. They'll have their own en suite WC, and even a games 'cave' in the adjoining cellar room. The courtyard offers them another enclosed play space, and then outside the games area is perfect to get the local flavour - boules anyone?
Adults will have the choice of two luxurious master bedrooms, one with en suite shower room, the other with a full en suite bathroom with walk in shower, and both offering the views that make the Farmhouse so special.
We're two couples who bought this fabulous property as a project which we then spent five years bringing to fruition. It has been a long labour of love, but the results are so rewarding.
Work keeps us away more than we'd like and so we share this beautiful holiday home with discerning guests.
Juliet Altham purchased this farmhouse in 2007
It's all about the views. It was the perfect excuse. Then we built the property up to a glory it has never experienced before.
We believe that The Old Silk Farm offers so many potential holidays from one base. If you want to just chill out, think, read and absorb the views then it's perfect.
But if you want to cycle, canoe, ski then it's all easy from here.
And if you're looking for fine wines and great food, then that's nearby too.
We were quickly convinced that this site is both remote, and amazingly connected, we fell in love, and love it more every minute we spend here.
There is not so much to say when you stay at perfect place. Accommodation is one of the best we stayed - and we are travelling a lot. Believe us. The house is top of the top. The surroundings are worth of your time and the view from the place speaks much more that my words. We (17 persons) enjoyed the welcome of the Farm, the atmosphere and the cosiness, swimming pool and the interior yard. There's so much to see around but The Old Silk Farm does not let you - to good to stay not wandering around ;)
Thanks for the owners for creating such a cosy atmosphere.
A really beautifully renovated farmhouse with beautiful views out over surrounding countryside. We had a fantastic stay at the end of summer with the family - long days lazing around the pool and then eating outside watching the sun go down. Well positioning for day trips including swimming in Labeaume. A fabulous house for a holiday.
Our family of 16, raging from 6 to 70 years old spent a wonderful week together. There was plenty of room for each family group to have their own space as well as beautifully designed and decorated communal areas for us to eat and spend time together.
The photographs of the property don't do it justice - each room and view is even more stunning in reality. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and it is best equipped house (the kitchen and pool room deserve particular mentions) any of us had ever stayed in.
We were warmly welcomed on arrival and given a comprehensive tour of the property which made the stay very relaxing.
The owners recommended Verane, a local chef, and they were spot on as she provided a superb meal for us all.
I would highly recommend The Old Silk Farm and would love to return one day.
It is a beautifully decorated and thought out house with many different terraces/areas to sit out whether around the pool or the main house or cottage area. The room layouts and arrival directions were most helpful and the handover comprehensive/charming with later back up. The modern kitchen was well equipped and everything was wonderfully clean. We would love to return.
Stunning views across the hills, fantastic swimming pool, great kitchen for entertaining and a lovely little bakery not far away so it's perfect for a French getaway :-)
Fabulous property with outstanding views! If you are looking for a very private and spacious home from home, equipped to the highest possible standard and with every possible amenity, then this is the place for you. Newly renovated, the house itself is large, stunning and very private so no issues with noisy neighbours! The pool and sun terrace are fabulous - a great size with unitnerrupted views across the valley. Easily accessible if driving from the UK - car recommened to bring back all the wine and nougat!
The farmhouse rests on a quiet hillside overlooking the Rhone valley, a few miles from Rochemaure village with its spectacular cliff top château. 7km away, across the Rhone river and into the Drome is Montelimar, a bigger town famous for its production of the confectionery nougat. The Drome itself is famous for its fruit orchards, lavender fields and olive tree plantations.
Back into the Ardeche, there are local vineyards and markets, medieval and Roman villages and the spectacular gorges of the Ardeche to explore. This is an amazing place for hiking, canoeing, wild swimming, walking ancient cobbled streets and sampling local produce.
For a little wine-tasting, follow the Rhone south into Provence to find Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and the best of the Cotes du Rhone vineyards. Roman architecture and ruins abound - from the nearby village of Alba-la-Romaine to the famous Provençal cities of Orange, Avignon and Arles. A 2-hour drive will get you to Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, or a dip in the Mediterranean sea.
