My response time: I always respond promptly to any inquiry by phone or e-mail. My spam catcher occasionally stops these e-mails from getting to me, so if you don't hear back quickly, please try calling.
The area: Cavendish is a quiet town, located 7 miles from Ludlow and the Okemo Ski Resort. The Cottage at Stone Walls is situated on 11+ acres outside of the village. There are many historic, tourist, and outdoor attractions in the area, but if you want peace and quiet, you have only to stay around the property and you will not be disturbed. Writing tables in every room, beautiful sunny views to inspire you. Plenty of room for your children to play and run around outside, tire swings, hammocks, etc.
References: I would be happy to put you in contact with previous guests of the Cottage, many of whom return year after year. Better yet, you can read the reviews many happy visitors have written.
We have stayed two year in row, and intend going back. It is in an ideal location for a relaxing week in Vermont and the house is perfect for famalies. The pond is great fun for the kids and the large grounds are safe to let them run around in. We highly recommend the house.
My friends and I had a great weekend staying at the cottage over Martin Luther King weekend. The pictures of the cottage don't do any justice. The cottage is so cute and cozy, and made for a great stay. Only about 15 minutes from Okemo for some skiing on Saturday. And exploring the area on Sunday. Overall great stay, and highly recommend staying here. We definielty would love to come back.
My family and friends absolutely love this beautiful vacation home! It was our second year in a row returning to this lovely property. Once again we were blown away by this beautiful county home and it's surroundings. We will keep coming here for years to come!
Just back from our second trip to the Cottage. We can't say enough about the beautiful setting and convenience to Okemo/Ludlow. The house was meticulously clean on our arrival and as everyone else has commented, the owner provides lots of information to make your stay enjoyable. The only negative that we would advise guests to be mindful of is that the one TV in the house is very old and small. I know it's VT and for the most part we were not there for watching TV but we would have really enjoyed a newer TV for our nightly movie in front of the fire. Also, staying with a couple of teenagers it would have been really nice to have a second operational TV somewhere in the house. There is a second set in the sitting room but there was no remote or cable box so it is virtually unuseable. My only other comment is that, while the kitchen has a lot of dishes, glasses etc. the pots, pans etc are rather old...some rusty even. I remembered from the last time and brought my own griddle for pancakes! You will also need to bring or buy all ingredients for whatever you are cooking. Overall, we have truly enjoyed our times there...just feel a couple of things could be brought up to 2015.
My husband and I were joined by several of our close friends for a ski weekend. I was so excited that we were able to bring our dog, who seemed very comfortable and was such a good girl :)
There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably. The house was clean and there was an abundance of extra towels and sheets, if needed.
Saturday morning, the guys went off to the mountain and us girls stayed behind and relaxed over a few pots of coffee. The guys came back fairly quickly, as the weather that day was brutally cold and really windy. Okemo gave out vouchers for them to use another day since the lifts couldn't run and it was dangerous on the mountain. So, we all just ended up spending time together catching up and cooking some good food!
I want to mention how wonderful it is to communicate with Joannah, the owner of the property. She spends her time answering any and all questions and it is clear that she cares about her guests enjoying their time spent in her home.
In addition, Joannah had put together a lot of information on the surrounding area, like where to shop, eat, and see sights. Her information booklet also contained detailed information on how to use everything in her home. It was very helpful and done really well. We even received our security deposit checks back in the mail just days after returning back home.
If we ever plan to stay in the area again, I can definitely see wanting to stay here. Thank you Joannah, for everything!

First let me start by saying the pictures do not do justice to this beautiful property. It was much more up to date and modern than the pictures let on. It is a really interesting design. All the charm of a traditional cape with many modern touches that make it just that much more comfortable and enjoyable. An abundance of fresh towels and 2 full bathrooms was a huge plus because we were staying with another couple. The owner was amazing in her communication with us and help with where to go and what to see. It was the perfect vacation with the perfect place to stay and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much Joannah!
10 minutes to Okemo, easy access Ascutney, Bromley and Killington/Pico.
Wonderful walks in the woods, bicycling through back roads, holing up to read a good book (or write one!)
Horseback riding is not far away, and there are several golf courses in the area.
30 minutes to Woodstock, perhaps for a delicious meal at the Woodstock Inn or dinner at Simon Pearce just a few miles farther on the road. The Children's Science Museum is less than an hour north, between Norwich and Hanover. Other villages to visit: Chester, Weston, Grafton, to name a few.
Walk down the side road to the 20-mile stream and the flat rocks or a favorite swimming hole. Take your drinks and picnic to the dock at the small pond on the property and just enjoy the day.
It's also a relaxing place to stay while helping your son or daughter consider colleges in the area!
Whatever your desire for a getaway in New England, The Cottage at Stone Walls will welcome you.
Golf: I am not a golfer, but know there are golf courses in the area (Woodstock, Weathersfield, Ludlow/Tyson). I'd be happy to help you if this is what you are interested in doing during your visit.
Ski: Okemo Ski area is about 10-15 minutes from here.. Also within an hour are Killington, Bromley, Stratton, and Magic Mountain Ski areas. We are approximately 2 hours from Stowe.
