Private wooded setting on 11+ acres, mountain views, spacious living room with wood stove, sun room. Beautiful mixture of antique & contemporary furnishings. Writing desks in every room for the contemplative visitor. Satellite TV, VCR, DVD player, stereo with cassette and CD players. We now have WIRELESS internet as well! My response time: I always respond promptly to any inquiry by phone or e-mail. My spam catcher occasionally stops these e-mails from getting to me, so if you don't hear back quickly, please try calling.

The area: Cavendish is a quiet town, located 7 miles from Ludlow and the Okemo Ski Resort. The Cottage at Stone Walls is situated on 11+ acres outside of the village. There are many historic, tourist, and outdoor attractions in the area, but if you want peace and quiet, you have only to stay around the property and you will not be disturbed. Writing tables in every room, beautiful sunny views to inspire you. Plenty of room for your children to play and run around outside, tire swings, hammocks, etc.

References: I would be happy to put you in contact with previous guests of the Cottage, many of whom return year after year. Better yet, you can read the reviews many happy visitors have written.

Notes:
10 minutes to Okemo, easy access Ascutney, Bromley and Killington/Pico. Wonderful walks in the woods, bicycling through back roads, holing up to read a good book (or write one!) Antique writing tables in every room. Horseback riding is not far away, and there are several golf courses in the area. 30 minutes to Woodstock, perhaps for delicious dinner at the Woodstock Inn or at Simon Pearce just a few miles farther on the road. The Children's Science Museum is less than an hour north, between Norwich and Hanover. Other villages to visit: Chester, Weston, Grafton, to name a few. Walk down the side road to the 20-mile stream and the flat rocks or a favorite swimming hole. Take your drinks and picnic to the dock at the small pond on the property and just enjoy the day. It's also a relaxing place to stay while helping your son or daughter consider colleges in the area! Whatever your desire for a getaway in New England, The Cottage at Stone Walls will welcome you.

Our Vermont escape!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage at Stone Walls was a delight. It was large enough to accommodate our family and our dog Sam. We even had a night visitor from a friendly hungry bear looking for food in the garbage ben. He was heard but not seen as it was in the wee hours of the night. It was such a treat to be out in the woods away from the hustle bustle of town and traffic. I great retreat. We could travel and visit sites and dine out in nearby Ludlow and a treasure of a general store called Singletons. We hope to come again in the future to this cottage at Stone Walls..

Owner's Response: Dear Diana, Thank you so much. I was happy to have been able to accommodate your family reunion and your fur baby. My cleaning person said you left the place very clean and she appreciated that. I’ve been on that property 35 years and I’ve NEVER seen or heard a bear so you got a special treat apparently! I also loved making that old University of Toledo and Perrysburg connection. It is indeed a small world. I would love to see you back again sometime. Check out the other house on our same property. You have seen it since you’ve been there but it too is available. #4198519 on the Home Away site. Happy travels. Joannah

Beautifully serene and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautifully kept, cozy, homey, spacious. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Just beautiful. Definitely staying again. Not one complaint. Made us want to buy a rental property in VT. Joannah was wonderful to work with, very responsive.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

House was clean and well maintained, location was great. We found there was almost no toilet paper, there was no soap, shampoo or conditioner in the bathrooms. I did find a bag of these things in the downstairs bathroom, but it appeared they were from hotel stays in various places. We didn't find this until we had all tried to shower.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Kathie. I've spoken with my regular cleaning person, though she wasn't the one to prepare the Cottage for you. She said she always puts at least two extra rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom vanity drawer, as well as a 4-pack of TP in the upstairs hall linen closet. Yes, the shampoo, condtioner, body wash, body lotion, and small bars of soap are in the main floor bathroom closet for anyone to use. They often are unused small containers from hotels and resorts, so new guests don't have to use opened bars of soap or bottles of shampoo and other toiletries. I'm sorry you didn't find these things in a timely manner. I'll see what I can do to make our supplies more obvious to our guests.
