'Villa Lilac' is named after the beautiful lilac trees which adorn the grounds with their colorful flowers in Spring. Villa Lilac is an oasis of peace surrounded by greenery, an historical noble residence which dates from the 1700s. It is situated in the heart of the charming ancient village of Calvanico .
The guest wing of the villa was carefully renovated in 2010 and features a completely independent entrance with private garden and reserved parking for several cars.
The rooms of the villa are all welcoming, bright and comfortable and are centrally heated. The guest wing has 2 bedrooms (one with a large loft), 2 bathrooms and sleeps 6 – 8 guests.
The guest wing features:
- a large open-plan living/dining room with modern fully equipped kitchen. In the living room there is a sofa bed with top-quality spring mattress (160 x 200), a large table for 10 people, a washing machine, iron and ironing board, well-stocked bookshelves with books for adults and children, games for children, a digital TV with terrestrial and satellite reception for national and international channels;
- 2 bathrooms with shower, hand-basin ,toilet and bidet;
- 2 bedrooms with king-size double beds (160 x 200);
- One of the 2 bedrooms has doubled with a comfortable large loft (with high ceilings), furnished with two twin beds, dresser, desk, wardrobe, and cot (on request);
- Private garden area which is directly accessible from the guest wing.
A brief description of the Guest Wing:
From the private and fenced parking area, you will enter directly into the orchard of this exclusive wing of the villa. The garden features lawns, ornamental trees and fruit trees, a fountain and outdoor shower. From the garden, you have direct access to the entrance of this portion of the villa.
This sunny wing of the villa faces south and extends to the grand staircase, from there you walk through a second garden area with lilac trees and flower-beds. This suggestive area is richly decorated with a rose garden and a wisteria covered gazebo and an ancient stone well (covered now for safety purposes). Adjacent to the well there is a small stained glass door through which you can access the orchard and the parking area.
The fully equipped gardens are full of color in Spring thanks to the roses of different colors, the azaleas, the wisteria and the lilac trees. In Summer you’ll enjoy the blooming red, purple and white hydrangeas, and in Autumn there are the red and green maple leaves. The adjacent orchard is enriched by fruit trees: hazel, apricot, pear, fig and are offered by the owner of the villa , at the guests' disposal.
There is a possibility to take a shower in the garden and use the barbecue. You can have pleasant walks around the village or go cycling (1 adult bike and 1 child’s bike are available to guests).
A brief description about the area:
The ancient village of Calvanico is located in the heart of the Apennines a few kilometers north from Salerno. It 's handy “base-camp” where you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the city, but where at the same time, you can easily reach the many important tourist sites and the marine archaeological region of Campania, in southern Italy: it takes only 20 minutes to get to the beaches and the port of Salerno, and then go to Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Ischia and Sorrento, 45 minutes to get to Naples, 35 minutes to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius for 50 minutes, 60 minutes to go to Paestum and then continue to the Cilento National park area, where you can easily arrange for excursions even one day, returning home in the evening and so be able to visit in a few days all the major tourist sites in the region.
Calvanico is situated on the slopes of the mountains Picentini, about 500 meters above sea level and more precisely at the base of the slopes of Pizzo San Michele. It is full of chestnut trees and walking paths that offer many trails for nature walks , among which the most popular are those that lead to the peaks of Mt Picentini, the old mills, and one that leads to the chapel of Our Lady of Loreto.
In close proximity ( 2 Km) is the natural area 'Frassineto' with its trees of various kinds, with paths and trails. It’s easy to move through even for children. The park is also equipped with a picnic area prepared with built-in barbecue and a children's playground. Among the many cultural events on offer, there are craft shows and impromptu painting exhibitions organized by Proloco. There are many recreational events, such as religious holidays and festivals of which the highlights are represented by the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto on 5 August and the Chestnut Festival in Autumn. The patron saint of Calvanico is Saint Michael the Archangel, which is celebrated on 8 May with a picturesque evening stroll along the slopes of Monte San Michele to reach the peak and the shrine dedicated to him.

Spring time get away
We made the villa our home for 2 months over March and April and it was perfect for our needs. The wood burning stove was great in the colder, rainy beginning of March and as soon as the sun came out and all the trees started blooming, we made full use of the garden and bbq. Our 2 year old really enjoyed running around outside and Michele was kind enough to let him use the toys that were downstairs. Michele was always very prompt to reply to messages and offer help above and beyond of what you normally receive.
The amalfi coast is a 30-40min drive away and we visited Cetara often and the beach in Vietri su mare too. The islands of procida and capri are also reachable from naples, which in itself is worth a few days wandering around. The farmers market in salerno was amazing and we visited every Saturday to do our vegetable shop (so fresh and half the price of the supermarket). Calvanico has its charm too and a walk up the steep hill to Capo Calvanico is worth the view (on a clear day you can see Ischia).
There are so many places to eat but our 2 local haunts were la vetta, around the corner with great pizza and friendly staff, and Nami in Fisciano (more great pizza, and a really cool bar)
I would highly recommend both the villa and the area for your trip!
A beautiful place to stay. Everything you need for a home from home holiday. Lovely private garden. Near to Pompei, Mount Vesuvius, Paestum and some long sandy beaches (all within 30-45 mins) If you like small, quiet villages with a little bar and excellent Pizza Restaurant then this is a place to recommend.
Our family of 6, two parents and 4 adult children, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this villa apartment. It was very clean, the bedrooms were roomy, the view was lovely. The workmanship and furnishings were quality. We enjoy cooking and the small kitchen, which was the only inside common area, was very well equipped.
Michael, our host, was organized, easy to reach, available, helpful, and responded quickly to our texts & emails.
As this villa is in a mountainous village, we recommend arriving in the daylight as it was not easy to find in the dark! The village is small, but clean and accessible. An ATM machine was across the street and a great pizza restaurant was down the block.
A car is definitely needed. Calvanico is a good location for driving to Pompey, Vesuvius, Amalfi Coast and Salerno.
Our family enjoyed this villa apartment immensely. Highly recommended.
A Short Drive from Salerno
There was a big front yard with gated private parking. Michael was a great host and very responsive to all our needs. Even when one of us needed a cane, he brought one without our asking.
The house was large and clean.
The town of Calvanico was beautiful and the people there were very nice. There were stores a block from the house.
We would gladly stay there again.
Beuatiful and amazing, highly recommended
We very much enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house in the village of Calvanico. We were greeted warmly by the owner and given a detailed tour of the house and full instructions on how to operate the tv, lights fire etc. The house is furnished with a mix of traditional luxurous itallian furnature and a more modern kitchen but still with Italian design. The gardens are beautiful and are ideal to sit out in the summer with enough sun and shade provided by the villages traditional hazel nut trees. A car is essential and we found satnav was better to put Calvanico into the search than the street as this made the direction of approaching the house far easier. The owner had provided detailed instructions on how to get there and was very accommodating with the time we arrived in the evening and with our departure time early in the morning. Highly recommended.
Mille Grazie Michelle
