About Salvo & Liz Natale
We have an Italian delicatessen and cafe called IL Pezzettino here in Plymouth. So we tend to live and breathe all things Italian, Salvo is Sicilian and Liz is from Bristol !
Salvo & Liz Natale purchased this Villa in 2011
Why Salvo & Liz Natale chose Francavilla Fontana
After spending several holidays with our family in Puglia we decided to search for a property that would enable us to enjoy the simplicity of rural life and food of this unspoilt region. Villa Katia has been extended and modernised, adding a swimming pool. The villa has the advantage of being very close to the beautiful Baroque town of Francavilla with all the facilities expected of a modern town, to people watch or 'passegiare' visit shops, bars cafes all things stereotypically associated with Italian lifestyle and at the same time enjoy the peace and tranquility of Villa Katia a short drive away.
What makes this Villa unique
The house is in 11,000 sq mts of olive ,almond and fruit trees and the only sound you will hear is from the 'cicale'. We love the natural shaded areas dotted all around the gardens provided by the olive trees. An advantage of being a comfortable 40 minute drive from Brindisi airport you can be in the swimming pool ! We love using the wood fired pizza/bread oven and enjoying our own olives and olive oil from our own trees with a glass of local Primitivo !!

We stayed at Salvo and Liz's place over the Easter weekend and had a brilliant time away. Salvo and Liz are fantastic hosts and were in contact constantly to ensure our stay was as good as can be.Giovanni the house manager was easily available when needed (especially on our final day when there was an unexpected power cut in the whole area!!). Salvo sent loads of information to us even before we arrived. And Liz was a vine of information on local events.
The villa itself is very clean and has all you need for a home away from home.
The villa is situated in a great location so that you can have some good day trips to the surrounding twons and villages. Also Francavilla itself is a lovely little town to spend time in.
My only complaint is that we didn't have enough days in Apulia!
Thank you Arti for your kind review of Villa Katia.
We are so pleased that you and your family had a good time time exploring Puglia and the surrounding area.
Francavilla is in a great central location with easy access to either coast, maybe we will see you next time in the summer !
It was a pleasure to host you and your family, thank you

Peaceful Relaxing Holiday in Puglia
Liz and Salvo´s villa is accurately depicted by the description and photos. We stayed there for a relaxing week in May.
The villa stands alone some way from the main road down a gravelly track, really peaceful and secluded. Good if you want peace and quiet as we did, or if your kids are loud in the pool! The pool is very large for a private house and the garden is beautiful. The pool was too cold for swimming in May but we spent much time sitting in the sun under the pagoda. The house was clean and well appointed, particuarly the bathrooms were modern and of a good standard. Salvo was always on the end of the telephone in case of any queries and the contact very friendly. We ate very well and cheaply at most of the local restaurants, and particuarly liked the two agriturismi nearby. No choice of menu, but delicious food and wine for abour 50€ total for two - amazing value. We drove around the area and visited Locorotondo, Francavilla,
Martina Franca - all pretty, and the very touristy Alberobello -not really our thing. In the less touristy areas the countryside is pretty but many roads are badly maintained with rubbish dumped on the side of the road. Try the local wines, all delicious and well priced, especially the famous Primitivo di Manduria. Choose this place for rest, relaxation good food and wine.
Thank you for your kind review of your stay in Villa Katia
As you say there are many great restaurants and Agriturismo close by the house and the food and wine is very good and well priced.
Unfortunately in May the pool is yet to reach its potential.
Yes, the roads are typically southern Italy style and the driving much the same !!!
Here in Francavilla the " comune" are trying their hardest to reorganise the rubbish problem and people are becoming more responsible
The house is in a good central location to visit Puglia and its beaches.
We welcome you again.

A beautiful villa
We had two relaxing weeks at Villa Katia, the villa was set in a picturesque quiet location. Francavilla Fontana was very close it is a very attractive village with beautiful buildings a supermarket, coffee shops and lots of little shops, a joy. The Villa was very well maintained during our visit the pictures did not do it justice, the Villa was very well equipped and we had everything we needed the pool was fantastic and we made great use of it and the BBQ. There are some pretty places to visit our favourites being Alberobello with the beautiful trulli houses, Gallipoli set on the coast with beautiful streets to walk around and where we bought some beautiful fresh fish.
Salvo and Liz were always on the other end of the phone if we needed any advice or help. Thank you both for a lovely stay in this beautiful spot in Italy we look forward to our next visit.
Fab Villa & Pool
A 2 week family holiday at Villa Katie, immaculate well maintained villa with a fab large pool and garden area in a quiet location. Pizza oven was great as was the BBQ, Liz and Salvo provided us with a first class customer service and were very friendly. You require a car to get about, we visited the nearby town of Francavilla Fontanta and ate at a few lovely restaurants, also visited Lecce, Aberellio, Taranto, Ustuni and Otranto all of which have different qualities but the food and architecture in any of theses places is lovely. The beaches are clean and reasonably priced if you want to hire sunbeds. We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa.
Great place for a get-away-from-it-all holiday
Spent a fabulous 2 weeks at Villa Katia. The villa is hidden away in a typical Puglian olive grove about 2 miles north of the quaint town of Francavilla Fontana. The villa is very well equipped and the pool and gardens are much bigger than the pictures suggest and I would agree with other visitors that these pictures don't really do full justice to how beautiful and tranquil the setting is. On arrival we were greeted by Giosue who showed us around and the owners Liz and Salvo were always available by phone or text should they be needed. We had days out to Taranto, Porto Cesaro, Lecce, Alberebello, Ostuni and to the many inlet beaches along the Adriatic coast to the north of Brindisi. All these are worth a visit but Alberebello is a particular gem as it is a world heritage site of the famous trulli dwellings. Francavilla Fontana is a place which really grows on you and we spent several evenings amongst the locals sipping coffee and eating the wonderful gelato. We ate at Al Monument, Piccolo Mondo and La Bouna Luna restaurants. Al Monument is a really friendly place and very accommodating and welcoming. La Bouna Luna is a very simple family run pizzeria but all the staff there were really friendly. There also seemed to be so sort of event on as well including a music festival, a religious festival and a talent contest in the main square which was amazing and very professionally run (Francavilla Fontana's Got Talent!!). Overall we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend Villa Katia for place to escape it all!
Thank you for such a kind review.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Katia and managed to explore the wonderful coastline of Puglia.
Francavilla is a very special place and as tourists you are made to feel like one of the locals !
Your comments about the photographs of the house and gardens are true, we know it's so difficult to reflect the beauty and the tranquility of Villa Katia from a still photo so we are delighted that the real thing gives so much pleasure to our visitors.
We thank you and your family for being perfect guests and we hope that you and your family enjoy your special birthday later this year !!!
Kind regards to the Team !!

Villa with beautiful grounds accurately described
The villa was exactly as described, the grounds and pool are delightful. The arrival and departure handover was problem free. The welcome pack was more than generous and very welcome after travelling overnight. We ate at the recommend restaurants, we especially enjoyed Arco Olimpio set in a small courtyard. We visited both coasts and probably favoured the West Coast. We travelled south to Otranto and although a long journey it was worth exploring.
Large shopping mall on the E 90 motorway to/from Brindisi at Mesagne has a large Auchan hypermarket and numerous clothes, shoe shops and food outlets.
Smaller supermarkets can be found in the town along with fresh fruit and vegetable and bakeries can be found on every corner in Francavilla.
There is a huge market on Saturdays selling everything ! Francavilla becomes very busy so beware of traffic congestion.
Taralli and wood fire oven bread can be bought near to the Villa Katia at L'erede, which is on the main road leading to Francavilla.
