Hana, Maui is the place to get away from it all! It is Paradise found, unspoiled by tourism and offers incredible beauty everywhere you look. With the Pacific Ocean on one side and bordered by lush mountain peaks, you will feel the magic of this tropical retreat. Imagine sitting on your private Lanai and gazing out at the ever changing surf. On days when the surf is up be entertained by some of the best surfers in the state. On calmer days watch the stand up paddle boarders and bogie boarders. However the best entertainment is during the Winter Season when the whales appear (binoculars provided for best viewing). If hiking is you passion there are three incredible hikes right outside your front door, or drive 7 miles to Oheo Gulch (7 Sacred Pools) and hike through the bamboo forest up to the 400 Foot drop Waimuku Falls. Our Hamoa Beach Cottage is ideal for just relaxing, cooking (gourmet kitchen and gas barbecue grill) and outdoor dining. This is Paradise Found!
Adventures in Paradise!: If you ever dreamed of a remote tropical place situated gazing out the blue-green Pacific Ocean then the Hamoa Beach Cottage will fill this vision. Breathtaking views abound everywhere and if love to hike then you came to the right location. Just outside your door are three hikes to enjoy, no need to even get into your car. The quaint town of Hana is just two miles away and there is a wonderful trail, off the main road through rolling hills with panoramic views of the ocean every step on the way. If you only have one day then the must-do hike is just a short 7 mile drive from the Cottage, located at the Haleakala National Forest, know as the Seven Sacred Pools. Get an early start to avoid the crowds and take the one trail head up to the tallest waterfall you can hike to on Maui, the 400 ft drop Waimuku Falls. Meander through bamboo forests that is so dense and if it is windy it sounds like a symphony of wind chimes. This is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed!
Eco tourism abounds!: Hana is known for it's beauty and isolation and eco tourism abounds. We have wonderful activities for everyone to enjoy including numerous cultural events. If you love kayaking, Kevin will take you out to a pristine colorful reef where you can snorkel and perhaps catch a glimpse of a sea turtle. Even if you don't get wet the beauty of seeing Hana town from the bay is breathtaking. There are two horseback riding stables in the Hana area and one is guided by locals who knows his history and explains the plants and animals and also the Hawaiian culture during this ride. More into relaxing, Hana has incredible massage therapists available that offer a wide variety of massages, including the Hawaiian Lomilomi. There are also cave tours, botanical gardens, motorized hang gliding, regular air gliding, an art gallery featuring local artist and many of the Hana artists also do private showings in their homes, historical sites and a small museum. So much to see and enjoy in the Hana area
For the love of food!: If one of the things you love to do on vacation is eat then Hana is a unique area as it has so much to offer in the way of food! We don't have McDonald's or Starbucks, but we do have our own Hawaiian version of fast food. All along the Hana Highway you will find farmer's markets, little stands that will sell all that they have grown. Most will offer free samples of some of the most exotic fruits and vegetables you have tried, including breadfruit, sour sap, low acid pineapples, coconuts, lychee, rambutan, jackfruit, etc. Many of the stands offer fresh homemade banana or macnut breads or try some homemade coconut ice cream. There are also Thai food, Chinese food, local plate lunch barbecue (meat, mac salad, 2 scoops rice) pasta, vegetarian, hamburger, and numerous other vendors. If you are lucky and the fisherman are catching, they will filet a beautiful piece of fish for your evening meal and the two general stores in town carry fresh local beef. You won't go hungry in Hana!
My husband, Dan and I fell in love with Hana on our first adventure out here and the rest is history. We have lived here since 1999 and have loved our life style and meeting wonderful people from all over the world!
Sandi Simoni purchased this cottage in 1997
Location, Location, Location! It doesn't get better than looking out at the beautiful blue green Pacific Ocean and the views that abound every where you look. Peace, serenity, and God's country! This beautiful place has it all!
If you want to be just a few steps from one of the most pristine beaches in the world, Hamoa Beach, our location can't be beat. Your own private off street parking and home await you after your fun filled day at this spectacular beach. Watch the surfers, stand-up paddle boarders, and boogie boarders from your private lanai. It just doesn't get any better than this! Paradise found!
Hana Oceanfront cottages provide the best of everything: wonderful location across from one of Maui’s most beautiful beaches and superb accommodations with everything you need. We have stayed at the oceanfront cottage each year for many years, and the only way we can leave is to promise ourselves we will come again in 12 months. If you are looking for a fabulous vacation rental in one of Hawaii’s most beautiful and relaxing locations, look no further. Thanks Sandi and Dan for sharing your slice of heavenly Hana with us.
WE THINK THE HANA OCEANFRONT COTTAGES ARE AS CLOSE TO HEAVEN AS YOU CAN GET WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THE GRIM REAPER! We have stayed there five times over the past several years and loved it every time. It is our favorite place to stay. The single bedroom cottage built by Sandi and Dan is located overlooking Hamoa Bay with a breathtaking view. You can look to the left, to the right and straight ahead and see the ocean, Hamoa Beach is just a few steps away where there is great surfing when the ocean is rough and wonderful swimming when it is calm. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple and has a well-equipped gourmet kitchen and an outside grill. Morning coffee on the porch or evening star gazing are very special here. This is a great place to read, just be quiet or enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounding garden. It really is the best getaway spot in the world!
We always stock up at COSTCO and/or Whole Foods before we make the trek over the Hana Highway. The road is loaded with an amazing number of curves, small bridges and beautiful waterfalls. Plenty of time should be taken to enjoy the trip both over and back from Kahalui. While the Road to Hana is like nothing else, the Hana Oceanfront Cottage is like arriving at the end of a rainbow.
While most reviews focus on the cleanliness and beauty of the accommodations, or the friendliness of the hosts, I choose to focus this review on an amazing response.
Make no mistake, Hana Oceanfront Cottages are wonderful. The location is breathtaking, the cottage immaculately clean and so well decorated and comfortable, and Sandi is a fantastic hostess – greeting us personally when we arrived, touring us through the cottage, providing tons of information about the Hana area. And the cottage is well supplied, with an excellent kitchen (which was important to us).
But, imagine that upon leaving Hana, and driving that long and winding road back to the Maui airport, you find out that you left one of your pieces of luggage in the cottage. That’s what happened to us. And our flight from Maui to Molokai was leaving soon - with no time to drive all the way back to Hana. It was a setup for a vacation mishap that could have created a major dent in the enjoyment of the rest of our time in Hawaii.
However, we were SO fortunate that we had stayed at Hana Oceanfront Cottages, owned by Sandi and Dan Simoni. Also Christine, who is Sandi’s assistant played a major role as well. Once Sandi called us about our luggage she set into action a plan that she worked out with Christine to get our luggage to the Maui airport the next day and on a plane to Molokai. So we were without our luggage for only one day!
This is far above and beyond what any guest could reasonably expect. Such a kindness is amazing and we were so very thankful.
So what I can say is, do not hesitate to book a reservation in Hana Oceanfront Cottages. Be sure to walk outside your cottage at sunset, go down the few steps to stunning Hamoa Beach, breathe in the ocean air, and then retire to your lovely cottage by the sea. And know that, when push comes to shove, if some challenge occurs that may create a problem during your visit, the Simonis and Christine will be there to help you in any way that they can. They’re wonderful people, and they are dedicated to making sure that your stay is memorable. Thank you Sandi! Thank you Christine!
Everything about this little cottage across from Hamoa Beach was a pleasure. Though it rained for a day, it did not dampen our enjoyment of this magical place. The view was spectacular, from palm trees to big rolling waves to magnificent green mountains, there was never enough time to enjoy the scene outside our window.
The grounds were spectacular, the location phenomenal and everything about the inside of the cottage was genuine Hawaiian... first class Hawaiian.
Thank you to Sandi for hosting us.

This is a luxury cottage great for a romantic getaway. The grounds are meticulously maintained with a variety of tropical plants, a covered seating area near the fountain and outdoor shower. The cottage is located on the second floor above the owners' floor with a perfect view of Hamoa beach and a two minute walk to get there.
The kitchen is fully stocked, there are movies and games for the renters use, plenty of towels in the bathroom, a spacious bedroom and lots of windows, screen doors to the lanai and ceiling fans. We were never too hot and actually had some chilly nights, which was perfect since we prefer to sleep in colder temperatures. We enjoyed having breakfast on the huge lanai and grilling hamburgers in the evening.
Hana is a small, somewhat secluded area that offers beautiful beaches, great local options for food, several amazing nearby sites/activities and seclusion from the fast paced life. We were able to participate in a local festival and see some of the local kids performing hula dances and taste some amazing dishes. This is the perfect place if you want to focus on relaxation in a quiet, slow paced environment.
The photos are current although they don't do the place justice. The place looks even better in person. Sandi was very helpful from booking all the way through our final day.
The ocean vista from the cottages is 270 degrees of breathtaking blue skies, blue water, and tropical flora. The cottages are fully equipped, clean, and evoke the easy warm comfort of a home. Sandi, Dan and their staff are friendly, available, and as warm as their lodgings. Highly recommended.
STRH Permit # T2014/0001 & TAT #88253104-01 Hana Oceanfront Cottages is one of the few fully licensed vacation rentals that is located at Hoama Beach and a short walk to another spectacular beach named Koki and is oceanfront. Hana is located on the Easterly side of Maui in a very remote little community and our two accommodations are just two miles from the charming town of Hana. We are on a small rural road, called Haneo'o that does a loop up to the main Hana Highway, and is used mainly for beach goers during the day yet in the morning and evening it is very peaceful and quiet. Hana is perfect for anyone who loves the out of doors, hiking in natural tropical settings, swimming at secluded beaches and under waterfalls, exploring, botanical gardens and historic sites of Hawaii. Breathtaking views of lush mountains are the backdrop of this area along with the contrast of the blue-green Pacific ocean. It is one of the last places on the islands that has not been touched with commercialism and is the 'True Hawaiian Experience'!
Other Activities: kayaking, cave tours, ultra-lite flying, botanical gardens, Eco tours, historic sites
