Overview

About the property

One Bedroom Seaside Cottage on stunning Indian Arm North Vancouver

This seaside cottage is the guest house on our property in the Woodlands area of North Vancouver. Indian Arm is the southernmost glacial fjord on the west coast of North America, extending 10 miles northeast inland from Burrard Inlet and Vancouver harbour. Located on the eastern slope of Mount Seymour, the Woodlands area is a paradise for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking, where you are minutes away from the North Shore's Baden Powell Trail, Quarry Rock and legendary mountain biking terrain.

The Cottage itself is a 2 story, 650 square foot building. It is newly renovated with stainless steel appliances, quartz counter-tops, wood stove, a private deck, garden and patio with a propane barbecue. Upstairs there is a queen bed, sofa, and TV with surround sound.

The Woodlands area is a secluded group of waterfront properties on the shore of Indian Arm, just north of Deep Cove. Part of the Woodlands adventure is the road. Indian River Drive was built in 1909 to connect Woodlands to the rest of North Vancouver. It was not paved until the 1990s, and today is a beautiful 5KM winding trip through mature second growth rain forest.

Summertime at Woodlands is glorious and beautiful. The property faces east, so you will enjoy the sunrise. Then there's winter. It rains here in the winter. A lot. Nearby Deep Cove is sometimes called 'Deepest Darkest Cove' during the November - March months. It doesn't snow here often, but when it does we have to park at the top of the Fire Lane and hike to and from the house. Keeps us fit, though. We have a propane supply, a firewood supply and a backup generator. We are ready for the zombie apocalypse. Or winter at Woodlands. Whichever comes first. You can stay here in the winter, but don't say we didn't warn you!

About Jodi Whiteside

We love the outdoors, we are avid skiers, and we love to hike and kayak year around. We both began skiing as children – Ken on the North Shore mountains and Jodi in the Rockies west of Calgary. We have two sons in their 20s, who are avid cyclists and are both ski instructors as their second jobs in the winter. We have two dogs - Finn who is a Flat Coated Retriever and Beau who is a Standard Poodle.

Jodi Whiteside purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Jodi Whiteside chose Deep Cove

This property has been a labour of love for over 15 years. We bought this property 2002. It had a summer shack made of recycled materials (and carpenter ants) and a partially build garage that eventually became the seaside cottage. We first upgraded the cottage as a separate space for our (then) teenage sons. The main house was rebuilt in 2008. Since then we have completed various landscape improvements to provide gardens, decks, patio, gazebo and safe access to the dock. The cottage was upgraded two years ago with a new kitchen, cabinets and furniture.

Wonderful! Fantastic Location

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful location with a fantastic view. Jodi and Ken are the best hosts ever. We felt like we were visiting friends, not renting a vacation cottage! They made us feel right at home.

The cottage is darling and fully supplied with everything we needed. It took me a couple of up and downs on the stairs to get used to having the bedroom and living area on the second level. We left all our luggage on the first floor near the bathroom for showering for we didn't have much to take up. The bed and pillows were super comfortable.

The drive through the forest to get to the cottage is beautiful. We are used to curvy roads, so the hairpin turns weren't a problem. You will need a car to explore the area. We hated that BC was having fire issues and the smoke and haze were heavy while we there but we decided that would just make us have to come back!

Jodi and Ken have two great dogs - Beau and Finn. We tried to take them with us when we left but Jodi wouldn't let us!! We had a blast playing with them.

Good grocery shopping close. Good restaurants in Deep Cove right down the road. Easy access to Hwy 1 and then 99 for exploring.

We would definitely stay there again!

Owner's Response: We loved Cindy and Phillip and would be so happy if they just moved into the cottage forever. We will have to come and visit you both in Arkansas. They were the best guests to have and felt like old friends. Anyone would be lucky to have them book their place. Ok I have to stop gushing. See you back soon Jodi, Ken Finn and Beau

Gorgeous cottage, lovely owners and picturesque setting

  • 5 of 5

This vacation rental in Deep Cove was everything we hoped it would be and more! Tucked in the quiet woods of Deep Cove and overlooking the water, this spot provided relaxation the second we arrived! We met Ken and Jodi when we pulled up; they showed us around, gave us input on the best restaurants in town and made us feel right at home. The cottage itself is updated and provides everything you could want or need. It is gorgeous and upscale, while feeling very cozy and comfortable. You can’t beat this place! It’s tucked in its own little oasis, but a quick 30 minute drive to get to Vancouver and the city life. We HIGHLY recommend this spot and hope to return someday.
