Howard & Susan Hennigar
About Howard & Susan Hennigar
My husband and I are both from New England. Massachusetts and Connecticut respectively. We were married in Boston and lived in the city for over 30 years with the exception of three years living in Brazil during his career in banking. I worked in elementary school education. My husband went to school in Maine so finding a house in the Boothbay Harbor area for weekends and summers, just three hours from Boston was a perfect match.
Howard & Susan Hennigar purchased this Cottage in 1978
Why Howard & Susan Hennigar chose Boothbay Harbor
We were looking for an antique house, on the water, sunny and with some land. We couldn't believe our luck when we drove by the property on our way to a realtor and saw the "For Sale" sign on the house 40 years ago. We brought our three children here for summers and weekends and now our grandchildren are enjoying this lovely property.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our charming antique Cape is situated on 210' of the Sheepscot River. The house is tastefully furnished and offers all the amenities you need for a great vacation. The water views are beautiful looking out to Indiantown, Boston and Green Island. Fish, kayak and swim off the dock or sit on the southern facing front porch and enjoy watching osprey, eagles and seals or lobster men pulling their traps. And the large yard is great for children or games. Hike and explore two Boothbay Region Land Trust properties within walking distance of the property. Oak Point Farm, just 3/4 of a mile down the road offers 32 acres of fields, forests and 2000' of water frontage to explore. This is truly a lovely spot-quiet, yet only 3 miles to the center of Boothbay Harbor's shops, restaurants and excursion boats.

Beautiful house in great location
Overall, we loved the house and the location. We ran into a problem with the heater though and woke up to 35 degrees in the house. The owners came down to attempt to fix the issue promptly. Had we not run into the heating issue all would have been great.
I'm glad you enjoyed our cottage and the location. I'm sorry that there was an issue with one of the Monitors, but hope the heater we brought to the cottage was a help. The service man was there the next day, Sunday, and was able to fix the problem quickly.
The owners couldn’t have preserved / prepared a more greatly appointed and classically built Maine sea coast house than this. Perfect for our family reunion . We had meals together and photo ops that will be in family albums for generations to come. They are friendly hosts that give guests their privacy while still being available if ever needed. We loved it.
10 star review
Such sweet people, house, location, and overall experience. Recommend it highly!
Lovely house and location
Fantastic location, very clean and well equipped house. Thoroughly recommended.
Lovely seaside home
We loved staying in this beautiful old home in Boothbay Harbor. It was very comfortable and the view from the porch was wonderful. We loved having a private dock and the kayaking in the area was truly wonderful. The yard was perfect for croquet. Susan and Howard could not have been better hosts. It was a real privilege to stay in their home. Thank You!
Great Family Week in Maine
Fantastic location to access the water, town and all that Boothbay Harbor has to offer. We rented kayaks for the week and were able to keep them on the dock with no trouble. The old home charm was comfortable for two adults and teenage/adult children. We loved sitting on the deck playing games, eating dinner and just watching the eagles and osprey. If not on the deck we would fish and sit on the dock with the chairs we brought to enjoy life on the water. My husband caught a few strippers right front the dock and from the kayaks. Susan and Hap could not have been more accommodating, making us feel at home the moment we arrived. What a great week.

Other things to do: Hike the many trails the Boothbay Land Trust (email@example.com) maintains. Some within walking distance of this property. The newest BBRLT property, Oak Point Farm, is just 3/4 of a mile down the road. This year round nature center has 32 beautiful acres of fields and forest-great for hiking and birding-and 2000 feet of water frontage with a deep water dock and three moorings. There is also a man-made freshwater pond created to support waterfowl habitat. In the winter the trails will be open for cross-country skiing along with sledding and ice skating on the pond. Or shop the numerous antique stores, gift shops and art galleries in the area, The Boothbay Harbor Country Club for golf and dining, the Maine State Music Theater (summer) and Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick or drives to scenic towns such as Camden, Rockport, Bath and more...
