What makes this apartment unique

Chaim Soutine is my favourite artist. When I saw his paintings of Ceret I wanted to see for myself how this place looked that inspired such wonderful work. The result was this apartment which is situated in the middle of Soutine's plane trees and places. I can see a' Soutine painting' through every window

Huge In-Town Apartment

  • 4 of 5

This is a huge apartment on a beautiful wide street that is a short 2 minute walk to the main shopping and dining areas of Ceret. It is perfect for anyone who wants an extended stay and the room to move around or for larger parties who need more bedrooms. One of the special features of the apartment is a wonderful terrace that has a stunning view of the highest peaks in the eastern Pyrenees.

The apartment benefits as well from a local manager, Jay, who is very personable and responsive. The owner too was responsive to our needs coming in from London personally to fix one problem for us.

The only drawback to the apartment, for larger groups especially, is there are only two bathrooms and the showers cannot be used simultaneously. The apartment would benefit too from a few extras such as a grill on the terrace, a new stove and more fans for the hot summer nights when the wind doesn't blow and the temperature doesn't drop. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay in a wonderful town.

The best holidayappartment we have ever stayed in

  • 5 of 5

Every year we book up somewhere to stay for a week or so in SW France and quite simply this is by far the best booking we have ever made. It's a lovely, spacious appartment in a beautiful setting, full of light and creative touches.

We know Ceret and the surrounding area well, and each year have found new places to visit and new things to discover. Staying in the centre of town for the first time, it was really nice popping out in the morning to get fresh bread from round the corner, the Saturday market is brilliant, and it's a pleasure just to stroll around the town enjoying the sights and sounds. The appartment is quiet, very clean, and had a lovely arty atmosphere. The apartment felt like home while we were there, and I have already submitted a request to book it again for next year.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Of all the places I've stayed in in France, this is my favorite. Ceret is a lovely little town and the apartment is ideally located within the ancient stone walls on an avenue of giant plane trees. But I would love this apartment wherever it might be located. Lots of space and light, art everywhere, colorful rugs, rustic but functional furnishings. Unlike so many rental properties, this one has a flavor all its own -- a distinct and charming character. I wanted to weep (for joy!) when I first entered the top-floor great room.

Perfect location all the facilites you need

  • 4 of 5

The flat is the upper two floors of an old apartment building benefiting from the cool breezes in the evening and lovely views from the terrace. The living area is very spacious and there's plenty of room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing, Sunning on the terrace reading on the sofas and cooking in the lovely rustic kitchen.

The location is ideal, just a short level walk to the best butchers and bakers in town and only 2 minutes to the tourist office. There is so much going on here all through the summer a trip is essential to take most advantage of the festivals, dancing, night markets and bands. Almost all of them are free and cater to all tastes. There really is something for everyone.

Susanne was on the end of the phone if we needed her and the emails before would be a good start if you've never visited the region.

Lakes and beaches need a car to get to but in half an hour you can be swimming in the Med or driving over the border into Spain.

We will definitely be back and would choose to stay in the apartment again.

Wonderful artist's loft/apartment

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is even better than the photos show. It was very clean and nicely decorated. We loved all the artwork and pottery in the apartment. We also loved the upstairs loft and terrace. We ate quite a few of our meals on the terrace where the view is lovely. As it faces west you get the sun all afternoon and wonderful sunsets over the Pic du Canigou. The apartment is bright and airy and by opening windows on both sides of the loft it quickly cool things down when it is hot. The bedrooms are all a really good size. Our bed was very comfortable.

We had very good customer service. The manager came right away when we had questions about the shower. And they met us as arranged to get and give back the keys.

The location is excellent, both within Ceret, and for touring the coastal beaches and hiking in the Pyrenees. Parking was never a problem. We loved being right in the action during the Saturday market. I would recommend arriving on Friday and then you are there for the market Saturday and you can do the provisioning for the week. I love to cook and the kitchen had everything I needed. There is a fridge and freezer. There wasn't a BBQ.

There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants in Ceret. This is where we went to check emails etc as there is no WIFI in the apartment. Everyone in the town seemed very friendly and welcoming.

Overall we loved our stay in this apartment and would love to go back again. There are many things we didn't get to do in a week in the area and we really enjoyed the town of Ceret. I have already recommended the place to several friends.

The France I had always hoped for.....

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this beautiful property in August this year, (2012)

Ceret is simply captivating, the France I had always imagined but had until now eluded me. Picture postcard perfect with strong artisan links.

Ceret is picturesque and is surrounded by bewitching scenery. The restaurants and bars are all 'typically' French and the coffee shops are the perfect way to while away a happy hour or so watching the world go by (very slowly I would add !)

The Apartment is wonderful with an achingly beautiful interior, relaxing and stimulating at the same time. The view from the terrace is stunning and the perfect a sun-trap for sun-worshippers. The apartment has everything that one could possibly need and more. I found this to be the perfect place to stay in such a lovely French town.

I would recommended this 100% to friends and family and I myself will definitely be returning. Cannot recommend highly enough.... loved it !!!

Ceret is a village of great charm and character, with splendid plane trees and a vibrant village life.

The brilliant light that prevails here must have been a factor in luring to the village several of the last century's greatest painters, including Soutine, Picasso and Matisse.

This strong art heritage continues today with the Museum of Modern Art which attracts art-lovers from great distances.

The 19thcentury maison de maitre style apartment is situated in the old part of Ceret, within 5-minutes walking distance of the village's bakeries, cafes, news agent and restaurants.

There are a fine selection of local restaurants, and Michelin dining a 20-minute drive away.

The village has a relaxed atmosphere, ideally suited to walks, cycling, photography and painting.

The surrounding regions are mountainous, providing various options for mountain-climbers. Canigou mountain – a climbers' favourite – is a prominent landmark on the horizon.

Wine-tasting is another activity that is catered for amid vineyards in the outlying regions, easily accessible by car.

Also within driving distance from Ceret are top golf ranges, Mediterranean beaches (30 mins), a lovely lake for swimming (10 mins), the vibrant artists' coastal town of Collioure (30 mins) and Barcelona (2 hours).

There are various festivals, plus music and dance to enjoy all year round, like the Cherry festival in June, celebrated with 3 days of celebration for Ceret's favourite fruit.

Every Saturday the streets begin filling from early morning as the vendors prepare for the bustling Ceret market, in which an eclectic array of products and characters are on display.
