Best Kept Secret in NY

  • 5 of 5

I really can’t say enough about this beautiful rental home. From the moment you arrive you can’t help but feel the love that went into its construction and its warmth throughout. My girlfriend and I sought the classic winter vacation and this particular home could not have been more perfect. Just minutes down the road from Hunter Mountain, where we enjoyed incredible views and some fantastic snowboarding, the home featured a wood-burning fireplace with beautiful stonework, a marble shower with four independent pampering shower heads, and an outdoor hot tub with jets that completely relax away the day’s activities. We found everything that we could have ever wanted or needed in town, and after leaving the grocery store located just down the street, we were inspired to enjoy a barbecue courtesy of the grill conveniently placed just outside our front door on the deck. We found the bedrooms to be especially cozy and the home’s overall décor very charming not to mention the beauty of the outdoor scenery and the property itself. However, I must warn you that even after spending only a few days here you may find it very difficult to leave. My girlfriend could do nothing but laugh regarding attachment as I said goodbye to each room, the caribou mounted above the fireplace, and most of all the hot tub before finally finding the strength to lock the door and pull it shut one last time. We’ll definitely visit again.

The Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with a group of 5 over the July 4th weekend, and it really is the perfect cabin. The cabin itself looks great - rustic and charming, it's spacious- with two bedrooms, a nice sized bathroom with a great shower, a big kitchen with a dining table, a cozy living room, as well as an upstairs "nook." The place is also very well stocked with plenty of bedding, towels, and kitchen supplies.

It's located on a secluded lot that is picturesque, and there's even a stream in the woods. There is another house behind the cabin, but it's not close and you really do have feel completely private here. The hot tub was one of everyone's favorite attractions.

We went into town and tried Twin Peaks for donuts, which were great, and also tried Mama's Burgers which was good, but ended up eating most of the meals at the cabin because we didn't want to leave. There's a grocery store called Tops which is only about a 5 minute drive away- next to all the other restaurants and stores in town.

Gregg was very responsive to all our questions, and seems like a nice, laid back guy. All in all it was an amazing trip and I'd love to come back again. If you're thinking about staying here, I'd highly recommend it!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I needed to escape the city and unwind, and this cabin was excellent on many levels: warm and cozy interior with a great fireplace, easy access to nearby skiing and snowshoeing, and totally quiet, woodsy surroundings. Oh, and the hot tub is a big plus. We'd definitely recommend it, and we hope to go back one day.

Outstanding, Best in the Catskills

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this cabin a handful of times and plan to return for more. Its location is perfect; the immediate surroundings are serene, secluded, and absolutely gorgeous, with Hunter and Tannersville only a few minutes' drive away. Hunter Mountain is at a stone's throw, and Windham and Belleayre can be reached in less than 40 minutes by car. The cabin itself is beautifully built (by the owner himself, no less), with high ceilings, impressive stonework, a large kitchen, spacious porch, and cozy rooms. Throw in a yawning fireplace, relaxing hot tub, and walls tastefully adorned with game trophies, and you have a retreat that makes you feel right at home in the mountains. Gregg is straightforward, courteous, and a pleasure to deal with, and will answer any and all questions about the property and surrounding area; never once felt abandoned or as if I could not reach him should a problem have arisen.

If you're looking for a quiet place in the Catskills with modern amenities and attractions but the distinct character of a more beautiful bygone era, you won't do much better than this.

Cozy!

  • 5 of 5

I came here with a group of friends for a weekend to get away from it all. The house provided a warm, cozy and rustic ambience and was located very close to Hunter Mountain Ski Resort and a bunch of restaurants. The house was also well maintained and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking. The hot tub was an added bonus and the owner of the property responded quickly to all my inquiries. Great weekend had by all and we can't wait to return!

Exceeded My Expectations

  • 5 of 5

Spent a relaxing weekend with my girlfriend at this wonderful house in mid-April. Everything inside seems new, modern, and clean, but it still manages to retain the charm of an old-timey cabin. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace (aided by the endless supply of wood on the deck) and relaxing in the hot tub (it's hard to tell from the photos, but there is a nice stone patio that connects the porch with the hot tub). The kitchen was fully functional, so we took the opportunity to do some baking. We even took a quick walk into the woods and discovered a stream/brook hidden a few yards from the house. The whole experience felt perfectly secluded, even though there is one neighbor's house that is visible through the woods. I would absolutely return to this mountain oasis.

There are 3 golf courses to play, one in Tannersville and 2 in Windham. The fall is a great time for hiking and camping when the fall foliage is at its best. Hunting season starts November 18th. The Catskill Mts. offer a large area of state land to hunt. Mountain biking and canoeing can be fun at North Lake State Park and other near by roads and trails.
