The beach cottage is elevated 10 feet above covered parking and is accessed by a short flight of covered stairs. Our guests appreciate the elevated living area amidst the red hibiscus foliage. The home has ceiling fans and air-conditioning in both bedrooms and living area.

There are indoor/outdoor living options galore. The top floor covered lanai has outdoor dining for 4 and reading area with a wall of red hibiscus flowers providing a tropical backdrop. The covered bottom level includes 4 burner gas BBQ and outdoor dining table for 6. Tucked away in a quiet, perimeter garden area is a sunning deck with umbrella, lounge chairs and room for a cool drink.
The top level living, kitchen and dining area offers air-conditioned comfort and entertainment options including flat panel HD-TV, Blu-Ray DVD, CD player and high speed, wireless internet. 2 leather sofas provide comfortable seating. Both sofa folds out to double beds. The living area has an 8' sliding glass door that opens to the covered lanai.
The kitchen includes island work space, open shelving, new microwave, stove and oven, and new dishwasher, There is an indoor dining table with 4 leather chairs. The built-in bookcase stores a wall of indoor and outdoor glassware and small appliances including blender, food processor, toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, K-cup coffee maker and new cookware
The larger bedroom offers a king bed with quality linens, air-conditioning, flat screen TV, DVD player. The adjacent remodeled bath has new tiled shower and a double vanity with glass top.
Second bedroom offers a queen bed with quality linens, air-conditioning and access to the remodeled hall bath claw-footed tub/shower.
On the top level deck, there is a laundry area with full-sized washer/dryer. The out door storage under the deck has beach chairs, beach mats, snorkel gear and an assortment of beach toys.
This home is located on the corner of a residential cul-de-sac and a well-traveled, 2 lane road that runs a few miles to a glorious end at Ke'e Beach and the base of Makana (Bali Hai). Check the map for the location. The road has beach traffic during the day but there is little traffic at night.
This beach access is just a short walk across the road and 2 blocks to the beach. From this location there are many nearby outdoor activities including: swimming with turtles at Tunnels Beach, sunbathing at Lumahai Beach and Kepuhi Point, hiking the NaPali coast, watching the sun set behind Makana (Bali Hai).
This is a Kauai County licensed vacation rental, ID: TV 5153. The only way to reserve this property is through specific agreement by the property owner. We require that the visitor read and complete a customized rental agreement prior to confirmation of the reservation. That RA is available only from the property owner and will be sent to the visitor upon request. An initial rental payment will be due after the visitor has signed the RA. The final rental payment and security deposit will be due 60 days prior to arrival.

We love Haena! The location of this beach-style cottage is in one of the most beautiful and special places in Hawaii and the world. Between the dramatic mountains and the white sand, there is a sliver of development which includes low density local and vacation homes. Kauai restricts the number of vacation homes in this area. Don't expect to see condominiums or commercial development. All of the nearby activities take advantage of the beauty that is unique to the north shore of Kauai. We get favorable comments from our guests. Once you find this special area you'll want to return. This home is actually in 'Haena' and is not miscoded on VRBO.
For less than the price of a resort condominium, you can enjoy a vacation home with private upstairs deck. There is not another rental on this corner, cul-de-sac lot. Affordable vacation homes within a short walk to the beach. Home is on two lane, well traveled road. We live on Kauai and lovingly maintain and update this cottage. Guests give us positive feedback and we are happy to see them refer our vacation home to their friends.
Recent improvements include 6' perimeter privacy fencing, new dual pane windows, new entry way, new lanai, new covered stairs, new garden sunning area, new second bathroom.
Thank you. We loved the house and our first stay in Hawaii and, of course, did not want to leave. I’ve included some feedback below that I hope you find helpful. They are all little things and we absolutely loved the house and will stay there again.
1. Kitchen organization. I have stayed in many vacation rentals and yours was the first to really have a clear, organized system for kitchen utensils, pots, etc. We appreciated it very much.
2. Trash/recycling/composting. Perhaps we just overlooked it in the binder, but we were not clear which cans outside were for trash vs. recycling vs. composting (does that ven happen on Kauai?). Inside there was only a trash can and we would love to recycle and compost if possible — we are aware of the landfill/water issues in the islands.
3. Laundry. We washed our towels at the end of our stay. During the week, it would be nice to have a drying rack (and for swimsuits, too) to hang things on.
4. Since there was only two of us, we never went in the second bedroom and did not notice the closet there (we found beach towels the last day). I think there might have been a broom there, too? If you mention those in the binder, it might eliminate confusion.
5. More info about the Geckos. There were several in the house (not a problem for us), but I was worried that perhaps we let them in or something? Or they were not supposed to be there? Just a note in the binder letting visitors know that geckos get in from time to time and not to worry about it.

This house was cute, comfortable, wonderfully relaxing and had everything anyone could want including beach gear. We loved getting to stay so close to Tunnels Beach, interesting lava caves, Ke'e Beach, Ha'ena State Park, the trailhead to Kalalau Trail and in one of the most lush, green and tropical parts of Kauai. If you want to be away from the bulk of tourists this is the place to be. Although the house is on a main road, there is absolutely no traffic at night and it is very quiet. The owners are very conscientious and thorough. It was nice to have air conditioning; we were able to use it to bring down the general temperature in the house, and then rely only on the ceiling fans all night to keep us comfortable. The beds were a perfect combination of support and softness. The house felt very private, and it was always a joy to return to after exploring the island. My kids got a big kick out of the lone adorable gecko that showed up in the shower periodically. I will always return to this rental in the future.
From the moment we walked onto the property, we knew this was a special place. A short walk from the beach, tucked behind some local greenery, this spot is perfect for any one looking to have some peace and quiet in paradise. The furnishings and design of the rooms made the overall essence feel warm, welcoming, and as though you were at home. The beds are comfortable, the shower fabulous, and the plethora of cooking supplies a real treat. And to think not yet mentioned is the covered deck where we ate breakfast every morning, or the outdoor supplies available: snorkel fins masks, towels, boogie boards (which are great for Hanalei Bay, a short ways away!). Looking for a splendid house on the North Shore for you vacation? Look no further, this place is for you!
We stayed in this home several years ago. When we arrived, we were surprised at all of the recent upgrades. There was new hardwood flooring, a second bath and new, larger washer and dryer. This home provides a great value within walking distance of our favorite beaches. We were worried about privacy since we brought two teenage boys but the bottom level provided dining, quiet reading and sunning areas. Our boys entertained themselves reading on the bottom level. There are lots of beach items and a storage room with lots of additional towels, paper goods and other supplies. This is the perfect spot for a family vacation.
We came back for our second trip this year and walking through the door was like coming home. Same clean lovely home stocked with every supply you could need. There was even a box of little drink umbrellas this time! Mike also was kind enough to stock a hand juice press/squeezer since we didn't have one our last stay. The location is hands down the best on the island. Almost to the end of the road so you are within walking distance of some beautiful spots like Tunnels, the Wet and Dry caves, the Bali Hai, which is the most beautiful spot to enjoy the sunset I've ever seen. There is also a great restaurant, Mediterranean Gourmet across the road , and Sushi Girl a couple miles back across the bridge. Other than that its just jungle and beach. Its so nice to have an entire 2 bedroom 2 bath home with a huge yard for less than the cost of a hotel. Mike and Donna's response time is almost instant anytime you contact them and they go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Keep up the great work guys and we hope to see you next year.
The place is great - 2 bed 2 bath with all the amenities you'd want. It's in a quiet neighborhood and about a 5 minute walk to the closest beach. You'll find boogie boards and snorkel gear ready to go. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking materials. New washer and dryer are also provided. The location is nearly as far north/west you can go on the island, so keep that in mind if you have many activities on the south side of the island as the driving time will cut into your day. If you're hanging mostly on the north or east sides of the island, driving time isn't bad at all. Highly recommended!
My husband and I just returned from our Kauai honeymoon and we stayed at this great house! If you want a true "away from it all" experience, this is your place. We had a great time having coffee every morning on the lanai listening to the birds and just enjoying the quiet, then would do the same with a glass of wine at night. We could easily walk over the Hanalei Colony Resort for beach access and a charming restaurant/bar. We spent the day at the St. Regis Princeville (a short drive away). so we got the "resort" experience without the cost (they welcome visitors to use the beach and the pool). We were a quick drive away from Tunnels and the NaPali Coast hike, so when everyone else took an hour to drive there, we could get easy parking and beat the crowds! Hanalei the town itself is a short 10 minute drive away and is very charming with lots of restaurants and shops and cheap places to rent snorkel gear. We loved hanging out down there and loved that it was so close. The house itself is very nice, and we took advantage of cooking breakfast every morning and dinner most nights, thereby saving thousands of dollars at resort restaurants. We did drive down to the south shore for a boat cruise, dinner, luau and helicopter tour, so if you are interested in the more tourist-y stuff you are in for a drive, we would recommend spending some time down there separately. . If you are considering Kauai for a honeymoon or anniversary, I highly recommend this place and the North Shore in general for a more "remote" and less touristy getaway. We are hoping to come back for our 5th year anniversary!
