‘Casa Ava’ is a recently renovated, traditional fisherman’s townhouse located in the old quarter of the 'Moorish' town of Olhao. The house offers modern comforts while still preserving the local style.

On the ground floor is a comfortable living room with SATELLITE TELEVISION including a range of DVDs, sofa bed and dining area. Through the hall is a spacious kitchen equipped with all the amenities including a COFFEE MACHINE, alongside a downstairs bathroom. On the second floor are two double bedrooms and a larger bathroom. The AIR CONDITIONED master bedroom has its own private balcony overlooking the traditional narrow street.We also have our own WIFI connection so you can easily keep in touch with your family and friends.

A special feature of the house are its two large PRIVATE ROOF TERRACES on the top floor, one with a large fully equipped brick BBQ and dining area ideal for entertainment, and the other offers privacy and relaxation with 2 comfortable sun loungers.

Positioned in a prime location only a few minutes stroll to the sea front where restaurants spill out onto the cobbled streets, and markets sell local seafood and produce. Here a ferry can take you to your choice of three stunning islands each with their own beautiful beaches.

Casa Ava is our ideal holiday accommodation

The property is exactly as described. In the heart of the old town, it is well served by shops, café bars, restaurants, a jazz bar and a fantastic fresh produce and fish market. From the harbour nearby you can catch the ferry out to the Ria Fermosa islands and there are trains to several locations including Faro and Villa Real San Antonio (where you can even get the ferry for a day out in Spain). Casa Ava is well appointed having a bathroom and a separate shower room. It is very clean and well maintained and fully equipped with everything you need for your stay.There are two terraces where you can relax and one has a built in barbecue. The owner, Dylan, could not be more helpful. He does everything he can to make your stay enjoyable and he will even organise taxis to and from the airport. Dylan's friend, Dr Lawrence a genial Scotsman, is on hand to greet you on arrival and explain everything to you. We enjoy staying in Olhao. It is a busy vibrant place by day but it's peaceful by night for a good night's sleep. I would recommend Casa Ava to anyone. We have stayed five times which says it all.

Winter break in Olhão

Dylan the owner was very organised and professional- sent us a welcome pack with local recommendations and easy to follow instructions about the appliances in the house in case we needed them. We were warmly greeted at the house by the local contact Dr Lawrence, who'd helpfully arranged our taxi from the airport- he showed us the house and answered any questions we had about the local area. A lovely stress free way to start our stay!

The house was spotless and we found everything we could possibly need - from wine glasses, cork screws, coffee maker, and even a juicer! We were grateful for the wheeled shopping bag and selection of sun hats that were thoughtfully left in the house. By far our favourite thing about the house was the upstairs terrace- every morning we'd go to the little bakery around the corner to buy pastries and fruit, and then sit on the terrace basking in the sunshine. December in Olhao is like a very pleasant Irish summer's day!

The town of Olhao is charming and has an unspoilt and relaxed feel to it. We enjoyed wandering around the cobbled streets, strolling along the promenade and through the fish markets- eating far too many traditional Portuguese custard tarts along our way. Faro is only a 10 minute train ride away, although I'd recommend eating out in Olhao- a far better selection of restaurants and more reasonably priced food too.

We are keen to return to Algarve, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Ava to friends and family.

Not worth what we had to pay we were not happy at

After arriving on the 5/09/2016 first impression wasn't to bad, the stairs up to the roof area were dangerous no hand rail my wife was terrified to climb them,even I was wary. There was an awful lot of building work going on 7 days a week, some of the kitchen utencils were not clean we even bought a new frying pan and 2 beakers for our tea. The front door would not open properly and cars parked half way across the opening We have been to the Algarve for 30 years this was the worst area and place we have stayed not worth what we payed all in all not happy

Ideal location for a car free trip to Algarve

The property was very clean, the welcome friendly and informative, as a holiday rental this property provides superb value for money. It has all facilities necessary and it is very well situated close to all amenities. The two sun terraces are well positioned and contain a fantastic barbecue. The proximity to the Olhao markets is an exceptional advantage to those who like self catering, also the access to fresh food makes many local restaurants good value for money, especially for seafood. Beaches are easily reachable by regular ferry again only minutes away. Olhao is not a classic Iberian resort, so its not for everyone but that is part of its charm. I would not hesitate to recommend both the accommodation and the town.

Cosy, comfortable Casa in a great location

The house was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Perfect location close to the waterfront, restaurants and bars. Dylan was helpful and informative and our Olhao contact gave us some fab tips for local restaurants with good food at reasonable prices. We will certainly be booking again.

A Beautiful and Comfortable place to stay

This is Kamran and Annie from Coventry. We had a most wonderful few days staying at this beautiful townhouse. The location is great, right in the heart of the old town. The house itself, very clean, comfortable, with great character.

We also found the owner, Dylan, most helpful, kind and supportive. Same can be said about the local contact, Dr. Lawrence.

Olhao is the perfect place to feel far away from the international tourist crowd. Easy to get to, this old fishing town is full of local character and faded grandeur. Its distinctive Moorish influence still present today in the historic old quarter, with its square white buildings and narrow cobbled alleyways where the fishermen still live today, its many charms will slowly work their magic on you. On the water front restaurants spill out on to the street serving some of the best fresh sea food in the Algarve, gardens line the front and markets sell fresh local produce amongst some fantastic views across the marina. Just a short 15 minute ferry ride through the Ria Formosa National Park to the islands and there is a choice of beautiful picturesque beaches. Olhao has great transport links, only 20 minutes from Faro Airport, and regular train and bus services if you wish to explore some of the surrounding towns and villages.
