Ladies Golf Weekend
This house worked out perfectly for our Ladies Golf Weekend. It was centrally located to golf, Skaneateles, and McKenzie-Childs in Aurora, NY. We enjoyed the large dining room table for eating and games and the back porch and deck area for lounging. We'll be back.
Very quiet area. Spacious, well-appointed house.
Property is not well-maintained...
We were very disappointed with the lack of upkeep on this property. There are many things that are broken and need attention. Here is a list:
1. Kitchen door panels broken. Kitchen organization was a mess. Could not open some drawers easily - no drawer pulls.
2. Landscaping needs weeded and tanbarked. You can't see in the pictures but there are 2 sets of very steep steps to the lake. Not easy to get down there. Because the landscaping needs attention, branches would whack you in the face as you tried to navigate the steps.
3. The dock actually sagged INTO the lake. Yes, part of the dock was UNDER the water. The dock is dangerous - loose boards that are not nailed in. Be careful on the dock.
4. The shed that holds the kayaks is filled with trash and broken things. Lifejackets were in the mud. A broken canoe sat in it and was filled with water.
5. In the house some doors did not work properly.
6. Be aware the master bath only has a tub, no shower.
7. The air conditioning worked well in half of the house. The kitchen/dining room was very warm.
8. Garage had no door and was filled with old mattresses and an old sink. Not very nice to look at.
9. The "beach" area is extremely small.
10. There were quite a few scrub trees that blocked your few to the lake. These should be removed.
11. The fire pit has a huge hole in it.
12. There were also lots of cigarette butts in the yard.
After we were there I understood why the owner did not post any pictures of the beach area and the steep steps to the lake. It is obvious that the owner does not spend time fixing basic things that should be fixed. When we are away on vacation we want to relax. It is hard to relax when you can't open kitchen drawers and you are looking at weeds and holes in the ceiling.
I do not recommend this rental. This was quite a bit of money for a rental that is not at all maintained. Look elsewhere!
We never got any call or email about the dock being in the water and therefore had no idea. It must have just happened right before arrival. We really like calls immediately for things like this so our groups have an enjoyable stay. We live a mile down the road so we can come right away to address anything. It was fixed as soon as we could get there after my cleaning lady saw it ... a 20 minute fix.
We did just do a complete bathroom remodel and replaced the mattresses a few weeks ago. We are taking everything to the next town clean up day and it only made sense to store it on site until then. The garage is across the road from the parking area, not near the lakefront or lawn where people would be looking at it.
Yes, the cupboards are the type with no handles, and a couple drawers are a little jiggly..not aware of any broken panels though. We will check that out. It is our hope to remodel the kitchen in the next two years.
We just got a brand new $4000 central air unit this June. It works fantastic! During a week of mid-90 degree temperatures it could have gotten warmer in the dining/kitchen area due to not closing the curtains over the large glass doors during the afternoon sun, people constantly going in and out of those doors, or even cooking possibly. We haven't heard anything from other groups, so we will definitely monitor this.
We will be sure to update the listing about the second bath not having a shower. It has a handheld sprayer as shown in the photos on the site.
We have a mowing service every week, but have worked out a deal to have trimming and weeding done every week instead of every two weeks for next summer. The unpredictable weather really does make a difference with this so next summer we are going to be proactive!
We will get some pics up asap of the beach area, as we don't want anyone to be surprised. I did mention beforehand to this group that the beach was probably not wide enough for their big canopy tent they wanted to bring. We have 60 feet of shoreline and the beach is about 8-10 feet wide or so depending on the lake level. Nice gradual walk out great for kids...
We do appreciate feedback as we continue to update the cottage as best we can every year to make all experiences enjoyable!

A new music theater festival is set to start in 2012 in the city of Auburn at three different venues. Best of all, just relax lakeside and take in the fabulous view!
