About the Northeast Kingdom: The Northeast Kingdom is where Vermonters go to pay homage to the wilderness. Long views of distant mountains, the haunting beauty of Lake Willoughby and the area's dark deep forests frame frontier towns and villages of resilient character and surprising qualities. The Kingdom represents almost one-fifth of the state, and has over 200 lakes and ponds. The Northeast Kingdom was baptized such in 1949 by U.S. Senator George Aiken in remarks praising its beauty. In addition to it being paradise to beach goers, boaters, hikers, campers, fishermen and snowmobilers, it is home to Kingdom Trails, supposedly rated as one of the top five mountain biking networks in the world.

There are 123 towns and villages in the Kingdom

The Barton Golf Course is great for beginners who want an affordable day of golf. The Orleans Country Club is open to the public, Orleans Country Club was established in 1928 and for over 80 years has been one of the most popular places to play golf in Orleans County. There reputation boasts a friendly social atmosphere, manicured golf course and competitive rates. The Club House has a casual dining room. The Restaurant is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The Newport Country Club also is open to the public. This 18-hole par 72 golf course is home to members and guest. The views looking up Lake Memphremagog into Canada are worth taking a golfing pause. This was my third stay at Lake Willoughby and this was the best house by far. It is 5 minutes away like it was stated but that was no problem for us. The kitchen has everything you will need and want. The furniture is extremely comfortable. The house is very spacious and it was nice having direct tv. I can't think of a bad thing to say. I hope this is helpful to anybody looking for a house in this area

A Winter Wonderland Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This house is an impeccable find! It is newly renovated, comfortable and accommodating. The furnishing is modern and very clean. I loved making meals in the fully-equipped kitchen and watching the sun rise over the picturesque landscape. During my stay we slept 8 adults with ease, and found the house to be conveniently located to all desired winter activities. Communication with the owner was great. My only complaint was that the cell phone reception in the immediate area was spotty. Other than that I had no problems. I look forward to staying here again next season! Thank you!

The house is gorgeous and really spacious, there are remarkable views from every window and very comfortable furnishing, and you feel right at home. It's centrally located to everything that the area has to offer. The numerous lakes for fishing and kayaking, a really nice golf course just down the road. Great hiking trails, a horse farm that offers trail rides, general store that sells everything from bread to beds. The deck and porch offer unbelievable star gazing at night. Next time we want to check out the winter skiing, not far from two ski resorts. (Jay and Burke) My friends and family loved it. We will definitely be going back again soon.
