Located in the heart of Mount Desert Island, this 2 bedroom guest house has a maple interior, living /dinning with cathedral ceiling and picture windows, and a four poster, custom designed bed in the master bedroom. Walk to swimming and boating on Long Pond and Somes Pond. Long Pond's swimming beach and canoe and kayak rental are just a half-mile down the road. Minutes to Acadia National Park, Somes Sound and Pretty Marsh. 10 minutes to Bar Harbor. Guest house overlooks pond, meadow, orchard and woodlands. Spectacular year round, it has both a wood stove and central heating.
It is a very nice house on a charming property with nice trees and a pond. The location is great to visit the entire island. We really loved Mount Desert.
Anna is a very pleasant host. It is a pity we cannot bring a dog.
Our family of 5 ranged in age from 11 to 73, and we were all happy & content in this lovely guest house. The view from the dining area was gorgeous & as a plus warblers and vireos, new to us, perched right outside the window. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, the beds super comfortable, the towels, pillows and sheets - bountiful. From this central location we covered nearly the entire island in a week.
Our activities included kayaking, swimming, hiking, blueberry picking, shopping and dining. We even snuck in a view of formal gardens and saw a play. The hosts are super nice people. This is a marvelous place!!!
We had a wonderful, cozy stay. The house is very comfortable and pleasant with full amenities even for a long stay. The place was overall clean and well kept. The owners live on the property, but guests have their privacy (perhaps a little less if the small dwelling in the back is in use) yet get a quick response if a need arises. Their labrador is super friendly. The woodstove worked perfectly on those freezing Maine days and nights. The location is perfect to visit Acadia; it feels remote yet close enough to amenities such as groceries, gas, and live lobsters. There are nice trails to hike (and cross county ski in the winter) within walking distance and quiet roads to walk around. We saw deer from the window and heard coyotes at night. The house is a very good value for its money. Highly recommended.
I was helping my friend deliver her daughter from Baltimore to her camp counselor job in Maine and we decided to take a few days to explore Acadia. We could not possibly have found a more perfect place to stay than the Oak Hill Guest House. The size is ideal for a family or a few friends, and was clean with all amenities. The owners live on the property and were really friendly and helpful. Also loved the location- perfect for visiting either the west or east parts of the island. No problem parking in Bar Harbor so didn't mind driving. I give Oak Hill Guest House 6 stars out of 5.
Other Activities: hiking, blueberry picking, kayaking, canoeing
