Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We invited friends to share the experience. They utilized the ground floor level and we utilized the upper level and we both enjoyed the views from the 2nd level. The property has excellent views of the bay from a comfortable deck. The entire unit was clean and presentable in every way. The dishes and such was complete. There was a restaurant at the base of the hill and another a few steps away. The property was also adjacent to Acadia National Park trams which can transport you to the park or downtown Bar Harbor. All in all a perfect place to relax or not.

This place was amazing and just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

The location was away from the city and crowds, but close enough that when we were wanted to venture into the tourist areas it was no hassle. The location was also close to a lighthouse and ferry to Swan's Island (although our stay was cut short and we did not get time to use the Ferry - we will save that for the next time). The house itself was awesome too. By staying here, we had the luxury of having the feeling that we lived there. It was very clean and well maintained. Having two bathrooms with ample living and sleeping areas was perfect for our family. Meeting one of the owners (Janice) was a special bonus. She promised to make us lobster on our next visit.... we will hold her to that!! We cannot wait to book again in the coming years!!

Wonderful Vacation at McKinley House!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to relax and explore! The house was exactly as described on VRBO/Home Away, and had plenty of room for our two couples. The interior connecting door between upstairs and down made it easy for us to be together or apart without having to go out and around. We ate out most nights so didn't take advantage of the two kitchens for other than quick breakfasts or late night snacks. The view from the upstairs deck is fabulous for watching the lobster boats, the Swan's Island Ferry, and of course sunsets (and if you're lucky, moonsets too!) Beautiful sunrises were only a few minutes away at Seawall, and Bass Harbor light is a short drive away as well. Janice and Karen were welcoming hosts, made sure we were all set upon arrival and also helped us get the lay of the land, including some recommendations for shopping and dining. We're looking ahead to making a spring/early summer trip to the area, and would be happy to stay here again!

Great Spacious Rental on Quiet Side

  • 5 of 5

This was a great bass on the quietside to explore Acadia. The house was clean and spacious with room darkening shades, which was great to keep our 2 and 5 years sleeping past dawn. Janice was a great host, with great suggestions. Great view over harbor although the great room could heat up during the day, the lower level stayed cool and fans in the windows in the evenings cooled the bedrooms. Easy access to SW Harbor, Swan's Island Ferry (end of driveway) and Free Acadia shuttle. It takes a bit longer to get to Bar Harbor, but less congestion and noise was wonderful.

Fantastic views close to so many activities.

  • 5 of 5

House can easily accommodate 8-10, we were 6 adults and the space was huge. Everything needed is already there full size washer dryer towels dishware etc. You are close to anything you want to do on the island but still tucked away at night to enjoy the quiet sunsets starry skies and cool ocean breeze at night. If you choose to take a days break from activities you could spend it on the porch watching the lobster boats and ferry come and go and be perfectly relaxed. The perfect spot to do it all and still have a place to relax.
