McKinley House is quiet and secluded vacation living on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island.

Four bedrooms and two baths, with floor to ceiling picture windows affording scenic views of the ocean and an extra large deck across the front.
I am a native of Mount Desert Island, and grew up in Southwest Harbor. My family is generations of lobster fishermen. I am proud to share my piece of paradise on the "Quiet Side" of Mount Desert Island with guests from other states and countries. I enjoy talking with people and giving recommendations, so that our guests will enjoy all Acadia has to offer.

McKinley House is very spacious and comfortable. It is quiet and has fantastic sunset and ocean views.
We have stayed in all 3 of homes owned by Karen and Jan, and have loved everyone. The McKinley house was great when we wanted to bring our children and grandchildren along. It was very clean and spacious enough for 5 Adults and 1 child. The views are to die for. The Angler's Loft was also great. The perfect size when it was just my husband and me. This past time we stayed in the Acadia Ocean View home. I do not have the words to say just how spectacular this house is. The master bedroom and sitting room with the attached upper deck are terrific. Greatest place to wake up in the morning. The lower deck off the dining room and living room also has spectacular views. Anyone of the 3 properties is a bargain to rent. The owners are terrific too, and very accommodating. The area has lots to do that doesn't cost a lot of money. (Hiking, biking, swimming, nature walks)
I travel extensively, and McKinley House is the one place to which I yearn to return year after year. There is a great sense of peace and beauty about the place. Jan and Karen are impeccable hostesses and the environment of Maine and Acadia National Park fill the soul with joy. I just completed my 9th stay and look forward to many more years of visiting. As my now deceased significant other Raymond said last year, "one week is not enough."

Jan and Karen were so accommodating. The house was spotless....the view was amazing! Jan gave us suggestions on what to see & do. Mainely Delights was the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat. We can't wait to come back and visit.
My husband and I had a rental in Bar Harbor double book us , letting us know about it last minute. We had to scramble to find a place to stay and thankfully this fantastic place happened to have an opening for the four days we needed. I can't say enough about the owners here. Jan was so accommodating and such a pleasure to talk to. There is also a restaurant they owned literally down the drive of the home that was delicious and perfect to have so close by. The home was spotless and decorated giving it a very homey feel. Usually we ALWAYS bring our own bed linens on our vacations but this is the first time we didn't use them because we completely trusted that everything was clean and comfy. Jan gave us great suggestions for our time there and we were pinching ourselves to be staying in such a nice place with such a beautiful view of the ocean from the upper deck. We have never stayed in the same place twice but if we go back to Maine I will be booking this place again well in advance, we adored it so. Thank you Jan and Karen for making our anniversary vacation so perfect !

We stayed at the McKinley House two years in a row. Great location in that you have a nice view, you can grab the ferry boat and you can get to anywhere you want to go on Mt Desert Island. We also asked for some lobsters, which we got delivered to the house, which was awesome. We brought our dogs too, so great dog friendly place.
What a great accomodation! We were 4 couples and our stay was excellent. Our first time in Maine and this is a perfect location. The owners are fantastic and they own a restaurant a few yards from the house. The food and service was outstanding ans also they help you pick the right activities for the day. Truly recommend this house Bass Harbor and much prefer it than Bar Harbor.
