Spectacular Oceanview Condo: Stylish, Serene, Modern, Top Floor

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,602 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen) + Convertible Sofa (Sleeps 4-6), 2 Baths

Enjoy urban sophistication in a tropical setting from our top-floor, corner oceanview condo at Vista Waikoloa on the the Gold Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. After a day of diving with the sea turtles off the Kona Coast, or sunning and snorkeling at Hapuna Beach or tidepooling at Puako, or playing 18 holes at the Big Island Country Club course, raise the perfect Mai Tai and share the magic as you savor the sunset from A301's large, wraparound lanai.

Inside, you'll experience a level of luxurious and harmonious design rarely found in vacation rentals. High-end integrated appliances in the kitchen, rich chocolate hardwood plank flooring and platform beds, down duvets and pillows, a stand-alone spoon tub and two rainshowers, two plasma HDTVs, and a gorgeous sound system all conspire to relax and indulge the guest.

The master suite has a king bed, the guest bedroom has a queen, and the sleeper sofa is full-size; all mattresses have memory-foam toppers. A floor plan (1602 square feet total, including 340 square feet exterior) with generous public spaces makes sharing good times easy--at the breakfast counter, at the formal dining table, chilling on the plush sectional sleeper or chaise in the living room, or on the lanai's chaises or dining table.

After an exacting six-month remodel, A301's transformation is now complete! We brought our kitchen and baths back to their framing and down to the slab, and then rebuilt to our ideal. These all-new, lavishly and thoughtfully appointed rooms complement our earlier upgrades to the bedrooms and living areas. Must-see photos at our website, Big Island Bliss!

The Vista Waikoloa has a serene three-lane pool with two spas, a barbecue pavilion, an onsite business office and workout room. The Vista is a charter development of the Waikoloa Beach Resort, and so enjoys some its most-favored frontage, across the drive from and between the Hilton Waikoloa and the Waikoloa Beach Marriott. The beach at A-Bay and the restaurants of the King's and Queen's Shops are just a 10 minute walk away.

The Kohala Coast has the best weather on the islands: with less than 10 inches of rain annually, the winds and water are often calm in the morning, giving way to breezes in the evening as the cool descends from Mauna Kea. Temperatures commonly top out at 81 degrees F (27C) Sept-May, and 84 degrees F (29C) June-August, before the breezes descend in late afternoon.

An ideal spot for romance, retreat or recharging, please consider Vista Waikoloa A301. Our website, with over 30 photos of the unit and environs, is a great place to start: Big Island Bliss.

About Brendan Hickey

Your hosts (that's us on the right in the photo) live and work in Marin County. Judith grew up in Ireland and England, and thus has an unquenchable desire for sun and more sun. Brendan is from Boston and cannot imagine living any distance from the ocean. They met at Area in NYC in 1984. Their two daughters (photo, left) are as different as night and day, but share a great reverence for nature and a laudable desire to save the world. Abby (photo, center) is Jud's old roommate, Brendan's dive buddy and the girls' fairy godmother.

Brendan Hickey purchased this condo in 2006

Why Brendan Hickey chose Waikoloa Village

After a decade of structuring vacations around dive destinations, first in the Caribbean and Mexico, and then Maui, Kauai and Lanai, we found and fell in love with The Big Island's innocence, diversity and freshness. Considering the planning and expense that goes into a family vacation, we also wanted to assure ourselves of a place with reliably good weather, and Kohala answers all our needs. The Vista is a charter resort on Waikoloa Beach Drive, with a well-thought-out plan, gorgeous mature plantings and a singularly relaxed and unaffected air.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perfect Waikoloa condo

  • 5 of 5

It is always with some trepidation that one enters a rental property listed on VRBO but fortunately for us our fears were allayed as soon as we crossed the threshold. The apartment was bright, clean and inviting. A basket of fruit, bubbly and coffee was on the counter. A nice welcoming touch. It was our home for 3 weeks and one we loved returning to each evening. We ate all our meals out on the beautiful lanai and the sunsets were spectacular. Everything was close by, beaches, shops, restaurants. Kona is about a 30 minute drive away and if you wanted to stock up on groceries you could pop into Costco. We didn't as we preferred to shop at the local grocery store at Mauna Lani, which was just up the road. The kitchen was well equipped and a joy to cook in. The bathrooms were spacious and there was a large tub in the master bathroom which was lovely to soak in. We loved A301 and would not hesitate to go back. I just have to mention the lighting which was excellent and for someone whose eyes aren't quite as good as they used to be it was a pleasure to read in the evenings. The owner was easy to deal with and addressed any questions in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to friends.

Totally Classic!

My wife and I have been staying in A301 for over ten years. Our time spent here went from one week to a month last time. Need I say more? Really! Got the idea yet? It would be like trying to describe a restored 1967 Mustang convertible.

The owners have always been gracious and available. It is like going home to your Hawaiian Comfort Zone.

The availability of the espresso machine weans me from my tea addiction every time. Central air conditioning is a blessing if you have ever stayed where there is none.

Vista A301/Stylish Waikoloa Condo

  • 5 of 5

Thank you very much for a memorable week of swimming, snorkeling and relaxation! You have a very special place in A301 and we feel fortunate to have experienced the Kohala Coast from your home-base. Both the interior and lanai of the condo are so nice. It was lovely to be able to see the ocean from almost everywhere. We appreciate the welcome goodies and enjoyed the fruit and plenty of coffee from the Gaggia - that is an awesome machine!

We treated your place with the respect and care it deserves - it is pretty fabulous. The art, furnishings and just about everything! You all created a super special place here in HI. It was also so nice to have all the beach supplies to use - that really helped. We will be recommending it to like-minded pals back in the Bay Area, for sure. Thank you again for sharing Brendan and Judith - Aloha!

Amazing Experience on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

I was in awe the minute I walked through the door! It was a designer's dream. Every detail was exquisitely appointed, visually appealing yet at the same time comfortable and supplied to meet all your needs.

A tray full of fresh island fruit and coffee was awaiting us. There was an expresso machine which made our time complete. We could view the ocean from the third floor location or take a short walk to enjoy the pool. There is a private beach within a short drive. We witnessed an amazing sunset last night while enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace.

The bathrooms as well as the kitchen are incredibly designed with the latest appointments to pamper the guests. The hosts did not overlook a single detail!

I would highly recommend this vacation spot to anyone desiring a top-notch relaxing get-away with all the comforts of home!

The very best

  • 5 of 5

I have been coming to the Islands since I worked in Honolulu in the 70's. I come about once a year and have stayed in many places but Big Island Bliss has to be the most elegantly and consciously appointed place I have ever visited. The ocean views are beautiful, the complex is immaculate and well appointed; close proximity to lovely beaches and a fantastic pool for doing morning laps or evening hot tubs. The sun sets over the lanai in the evenings seen from a comfortable yet highly elegant living room. The new remodeling is state of the art. Sub Zero refrigerator with filtered water so we don't need to purchase endlessly in plastic bottles, a Gaggia coffee maker that is heaven and a fully equipped kitchen are just a few of the wonderful surprises we found on entering. The condo is absolutely beautiful, convenient, immaculate and well appointed. Nothing is lacking. I so highly recommend this first class spot. Also, all the directions one could possibly need or want are provided by the owners. As this is only my second time to the big Island, we found the recommendations very helpful.
