About Joseph & Rebecca McGovern

Joe and I have lived in Stowe since 1988, we bought this house in 1991. Joe is originally from Portland, Maine and I am originally from Cape Cod. We have spent the past 30 years renovating our home and raising our seven children. Our children have all grown up now and we find we have a big house to ourselves. We love to rent to families who will enjoy the property as much as we do.

Joseph & Rebecca McGovern purchased this house in 1991

Why Joseph & Rebecca McGovern chose Stowe

We bought this property because it was a great place to raise a family. It is quiet yet close to everything. We can go for a 10 mile run, cross country ski or snowshoe or mountain bike right from our door through hundreds of acres of preserved state land. The fresh Vermont spring water that comes out of the faucets is cold and refreshing and flows right from our own land. The house itself was built in 1850 and is full of farmhouse charm.

What makes this house unique

The sheep that graze in the fields adjacent to the house give it a very pastoral feel. You feel removed from the shopping in town and on the mountain road yet they are only a few miles away.

Spacious country home near Stowe

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific stay over the President's holiday period. First, the location is a quick drive to Stowe, groceries, Trapp Family Lodge, etc. Second, the home is larger than the photos show. The kitchen was very well stocked for cooking meals large or small. We had 10 people there and were well accommodated. Third, the host - Becky - was very engaged and responsive. I am happy to recommend this home for family or multi-family vacations. On a final note, there are a few farm animals on the property, including a pair of sheep; while we were there two baby lambs were born! Our kids loved it.

Warm and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! Becky was so easy to work with and really made us comfortable about having 6 kids (including FOUR little boys) running around the house. The beds were ample and comfortable, the wood stove was warm and fun, the kitchen was ready to use, and the bathrooms were clean.

Great spacious home for experiencing Stowe!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic New Years Eve experience staying here. The home is much more spacious than the pictures give it credit for. Large kitchen and outdoor grill make cooking easy. Plenty of wood was supplied to keep the fireplace roaring all weekend; that was a particular highlight of the trip. Even the sitting room had great DVDs to watch while relaxing after a full day on the slopes. Finally, the owners have always been very responsive, welcoming and great to work with. I'd absolutely recommend staying at this home!

Family-friendly Stowe Family Home

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this warm and cozy Stowe farm house. We had a few families with young kids so the house was perfect for us. The kitchen is large and we liked the open layout to the family room and dining room. The kids also loved the play room with ping pong and toys. The house is also in a good location making it to go back and forth to the mountain. The owners are very nice and were a pleasure were to work with!

We definitely plan on renting this house again.

perfect vermont vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing vacation at this quaint Stowe house. We loved the farmhouse charm. We had a large group of people but had plenty of space and the sleeping arrangements were perfect for us. There is an extra bed in the playroom which was perfect for the kids, although they still preferred to sleep in their sleeping bags on the floor most nights:) The kitchen area has a lot of space with a wood burning stove and seating area which was where we spent most of our time together. One good thing to note is there is no coffee pot. They have a kurig so bring some k-cups or do what we did and bring a coffee pot.

It was perfect for the kids, they loved the playroom- there were plenty of toys, no need to bring your own. We played a lot of ping pong. They loved going to see the sheep and chickens and look for eggs every morning. We are all now looking into getting our own chickens.

The house is also close to everything- close to the town and shops and close to stowe. We also did a lot of ice skating at the Stowe arena which was fun.

This house was awesome, the owners are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Comfortable and Convenient Stowe House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in December of 2014 for 3 nights and had a very nice time. The location is ideal as it is nearby the Von Trapp Lodge and allows for easy access to the Stowe mountain and downtown Stowe (plus all of the roads are paved, no dirt) There are a number of bedrooms so it was very easy to give everyone their own space.

The house is clearly a family getaway and is very well stocked but still felt clean and welcoming. There are sheep and chickens on the property also. This was only a good thing (no noise or smells) and we actually were able to get farm fresh eggs one morning when one of us was brave enough to retrieve them!
