About Caty Carlin

Caty has been a professional artist for over 30 years, and has traveled the world collecting textiles and objects from countries such as Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, South America and more. After many years of creating figurative fabric sculpture and doing shows and exhibitions, she began creating with houses and vacation rentals in 2000. The cabin in paradise is filled with artwork and textiles from around the world and reflects her passion for visiting diverse cultures researching the story embedded in their artwork, architecture and history. Caty speaks on Celebrity cruises as an enrichment speaker, and currently has a Vacation Rental business in Asheville. The land where the Asheville cabin in paradise is located, was searched for after many years of trying to find just the right spot with a glorious long range view, plenty of light, and story book pastures with cows and animals.

Why Caty Carlin chose Asheville Area

These North Carolina mountains are the most magnificent mountains in the world! As an Artist, I spent 5 years walking land to find just the right spot to build this retreat. I had lived in Burnsville, NC for many years and loved living in a place where you can witness the sunrise and the sunset with plenty of space to visually look out for long distances, rather than being enclosed by trees or in a hollow. The view takes you out of the mundane problems of life, and lifts you into an inexplicable place of beauty and serenity. Having lived in the mountains for many years, I know how a particular place can nourish and restore a soul, and this place was chosen for the gifts of beauty that it gives to everyone who comes here.

What makes this cabin unique

Beauty, rainbows, and double rainbows, 70 mile views, awesome sunrises, and pink and purple sunsets....quiet, peaceful, and beauty that lifts your spirit. Pastoral storybook views, yet all of the amenities of home, and only 12 miles to the center of Asheville. Book now, you'll be glad you did.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Caty,

What a wonderful and relaxing time we had at your beautiful mountain retreat! Thanks so much for sharing your little piece of paradise. It was so peaceful to sip our morning coffee listening to all those different bird songs, and of course, the local rooster. And night time was just magical! Rocking under a star filled sky while serenaded by croaking frogs. But the biggest treat and great surprise was the host of dancing fireflies. We've never seen so many glowing for so long! (No need for TV with night life like that.) An inside was as much a feast for the eyes as out. How Beautiful and artfully decorated your home is- yet comfortable and welcoming too. The only thing we needed was a little more time here. We hope to return someday.

Thanks again,

Awesome! Beautiful cabin, great views.

  • 5 of 5

While visiting the Ashville area to see the Biltmore House a few weeks ago, my siblings and I stayed at "Blissful Paradise". The cabin was just as the pictures and description described it. It was beautifully decorated, homey with lots of room for all of us to spread out and the kitchen was well stocked. The views were lovely and although it was in the 30's each morning, the deck was our favorite place to grab a cup of coffee, make plans for the day, admire how bright the stars were, and wait for the sunrise. Since we all left our pets at home, we were pleasantly surprised when one of the neighbor's 4 legged friends came over to visit each morning. Our visiting friend sat patiently by the back door looking in. He was no bother and didn't stay long, but for us dog lovers, it was icing on the cake.

I cannot say enough about Caty. She couldn't have been more gracious and accommodating and you could tell by how clean and well maintained the property was she cares a great deal about her home. The cabin was far enough out of town to have a country feel but was only a 15 - 20 minute drive to restaurants and Ashville. I would absolutely recommend "Blissful Paradise" to my family and friends. Thanks Caty for allowing us to stay in your home....we had a great 4 days!!!! The Bassett Family

Great house and especially if you wish to avoid lots of stairs!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It is especially nice because there are only 3 easy to manage steps to the porch and there are 3 nice bedrooms and two full baths on this main floor. If you want to avoid stairs this home is ideal as so many mountain homes have several sets of stairs. There is also a loft with a queen bed which is accessed by an absolutely beautiful wooden spiral staircase but having the 3 bedrooms on the main floor is ideal for many travelers. The kitchen is fully equiped and there is a large dining table as well as two smaller kitchen tables. The views are awesome! There is a huge porch with two covered areas, chairs and a dining table on the porch overlooking an incredible view. There is a wonderful fireplace and a woodpile for a small extra fee. Well worth it...the open fire really added to the ambiance. The home is beautifully furnished and the owner was easily accessible if we needed anything. She called to make sure we had arrived. The home has wireless internet which worked well. I'd definitely stay here again! The drive into Asheville is very reasonable...about 25 minutes to get to the Biltmore Estate. There are two nice Publix grocery stores not too far away, en route. There is a local smaller grocery store a couple of miles away.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience - the property is beautifully appointed, very clean, and roomy. We spent most of our time in town in Asheville and easily used both Uber and cabs to get back and forth.

Relaxing and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We were three adults and three children. The appointments in this home are above rental grade and made for a very comfortable stay. The deck is expansive and great for sitting and star gazing, and the king bed in the master is a wonderful tempurpedic. The loft bed is accessed from an open spiral staircase that we kept our youngest child off of for safety. We were happy to follow owners request to have our kids eat at the table and watch for stains on the is a lovely home and we wanted to keep it that way for the next guests. The driving around there is a visual treat for city dwellers; our teenager voluntarily turned off the iPad movie and enjoyed the countryside. Driving distance: we took 30 leisurely minutes to get into Asheville, a bit less for the Weaverville Ingalls/Walmart. Sliding Rock was kids favorite day and took about 40 minutes for us.

A Cycling Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Last month a group of us stayed at Caty’s cabin and had an absolutely great time. The cabin…which does it no justice in calling it that, was absolutely fantastic. We used the cabin as our base camp for a cycling vacation. Right from our doorstep we had some of the best cycling roads in the area. Bear Creek Road up to Marshall is a great ride with plenty of options along the French Broad River. We did elect to begin several of our rides in Asheville (around a 20 minute drive) as we found this more convenient to access the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mount Mitchell not to mention that after the ride we could visit the numerous Asheville restaurants, breweries….and more breweries!

Our ride from Asheville to the top of Mt Mitchell was a 95 mile ride with almost 11,000 feet of climbing. To some this may not mean much, but to cyclists it’s something that stories are made of.

Most nights back at the cabin were spent sitting on one of the beautiful porches and planning out our next cycling adventure.

I can’t say enough about this place and we have already made plans on visiting again.

Thanks Caty!

Spring Break and Family get together

  • 5 of 5

The family had a great time staying here. Beautiful house, great view and only 25 minutes or so to Asheville. We felt secluded (good) and were not very far from the Biltmore Estate, mountain hiking and the activities of Asheville. Kitchen is furnished - you just need to bring your food. The kids enjoyed the loft and had a great time exploring the fields. We really had fun with the friendly neighborhood black lab and golden retrievers. Thanks Caty, we enjoyed our stay.
