About Sugar Generaux

Our family first came to VT in 1958, when it was so novel to have folks from down country purchasing local property, that our purchase of a small farm house on Rt 100, just south of the center of Pittsfield made news in the Rutland Hearld.

We built this house (Robert Williams was our architect) in 1965 where two sons were raised. The family was a long time member of the Killington Ski Club, with both children competing as either ski racers or freestylers over their youth.

Both children went on to Middlebury where they continued to race competitively.

Sugar Generaux purchased this chalet in 1965

Why Sugar Generaux chose Killington Area

Scenic, quiet and south facing.

What makes this chalet unique

Lets you choose when you want to engage in the surrounding world.

We love the fact that it is warm in the winter, has great views, lets the kids have fun and parents relax on the deck or on the love seat swing.

Nice place, steep mtn in winter, near Killington

  • 4 of 5

The overall impression of the Chalet was very good. We enjoyed the fireplace, supplied with ample wood, the great sporty decor and memorabilia and the winter ambiance. The hot tub on the deck was nice at night.

Upstairs is ground level, with the basement being a walk down so if some in your party can't do stairs they'd be okay on the first floor. The kitchen and eating area work nicely with the overall open-concept, which has enough dividing walls to feel both cosy, open and feel separate enough for people to gather in different parts of it - though we usually were in the living room area. The video and CD collection was all junk or kids (so bring your own CD/DVD) There is a satellite TV. There is no Wifi, but isn't it nice to get away from everyone being device-attached?

In winter, after fresh snow, you will absolutely want awd/4wd or chains on your non-awd car. There is a place at the foot of the hill on the right where cars can be left for a day or two if they can't make it up the hill. One of our party's cars couldn't make it. Even with 2 awd (but not off-road) cars, we counted ourselves lucky when we safely made it on a couple icy days. The driveway is a careful nose or back-in down to the house from the road.

Although the listing mentions 8-9 sleeping, the owner cautioned us to 7-8. Upstairs layout has a bedroom with queen (2), a single (1) room upstairs. A loft recommended not for sleeping. There is a wrap around couch. Downstairs has a rather tight 4 berth bunk room and a king (2) room.

Dealing with the owner was okay, but it could be better due to some minor issues: The rate the owner charged was higher than stated on the listing; the owner didn't immediately commit to renting to us, hoping to find someone renting for a longer period; The key wasn't mailed until close to our arrival time - the day I contacted the owner. On the other hand, we misplaced the key somewhere in the property. We had a new one cut and sent it back to the owner, but their understanding of this unintended goof on our part was appreciated by us!

Thanks for a nice house. It's a pleasure to stay in a place that feels very nice and very personal at the same time.

AMAZING WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Salem In, and it was everything we wanted. Amazing views, and the house was lovely. A wonderful place to escape for the weekend. Sugar and Bruce meet all of our requests, and where super friendly when helping us plan our trip.

Would recommend the cabin to anyone.

So cosy and warm

  • 4 of 5

Hi -

We stayed for a long weekend in the winter. The place was warm, the fireplace so inviting and the views outstanding. The kids loved the hot tub and the cable TV/DVD player was just like at home - too many channels. The kitchen was functional and the farm table was great for talking about our skiing adventures from the day. Sugar and her sons were easy to work with to get signed up.
