On the waterfront of beautiful Somes Sound with lovely views of the water and
mountains, this spectacular property is one of the few inholdings within Acadia National Park. Situated on the shoreline of smooth and sloping granite swimming rocks and cedar picnic benches.
The deep waters of Somes Sound make excellent sailing for boats of any size and the house comes with a mooring. The house offers total privacy in the park and one can literally set off hiking, biking, and boating from the front doors. Drive or bike to the village of Northeast Harbor along Sargeant Drive three miles away. Bar Harbor is a 15 minute drive.
MAIN HOUSE: The large one story Main house has sliding glass doors offering views from all areas of the house and leading out to the spacious 450sf wraparound deck. The ceilings are high with screened opening skylights in every room including the bathrooms.
The large living room with fireplace has a spacious dining area adjacent to the fully equipped modern kitchen with island.
The Master Bedroom Suite facing the waterfront includes a private bath, a queen bed and an adjoining sitting room.
The Middle Bedroom has 2 twin beds and a double bed in the loft.
The Third Bedroom has a queen bed.
A second full bath serves these 2 rooms.
The cedar outdoor shower offers privacy, proximity to the swimming rocks, and a great view up the sound.
GUEST HOUSE: The Little House is across the stream and very private. It has a queen bed with a private bathroom and a pullout sofa bed in an alcove off the livingroom with a separate 1/2 bath. Full kitchen. Wraparound deck. Wood stove. Available as a separate rental or at additional cost when renting the Main House.
A large cedar tent platform is hidden in the woods with Adirondack chairs, a cedar chaise, and room for a 4 person tent plus another wonderful view down the sound.
In the opposite direction through the woods, past the 1930's log cabin, is a private beach.
There is also a wonderful playhouse for kids near the horseshoe pit in the woods.
An ideal compound for families or 3 -4 couples. Very child friendly. The decks have sturdy cedar railings with rope netting for safety.
we do suggest you do your food shopping in Ellsworth or Bar Harbor, as our small market in the village is very poor and pricey
Log Cabin: The classic 1934 Log Cabin is not available for rent except by special arrangement.

we are a family from Philadelphia originally, who maintain this home built by our mother and father. 4 generations have summered in NEH, and we love sharing our home with others who love Maine & Acadia.
Robin Reath Graves purchased this house in 1968
our family has summered in Northeast Harbor for close to 100 years. There is no place like it in New England - ocean, mountains, lakes, & Acadia National Park
total privacy, peace, directly on water, beautiful Acadia Park around us, easy house to maintain.
Our family (including 3 boys, ages 16, 14 and 11) loved Reath Rock and the surrounding area! The home was very comfortable, spacious and very we'll equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the spectacular views from the deck before and after we explored the various hiking trails during the day. The home was conveniently located to many areas of interest on the island, so it didn't take long to return to Reath Rock to relax following our adventures. Many nights we played board games, cards and cribbage. We made many special memories during our stay which made it very difficult to leave. We hope to visit again someday. Thank you for sharing your special home with others!
Had a wonderful stay here on relentlessly picturesque Sargent Dr. This home was the perfect quiet place to come back to after a long day of exploring Acadia National Park and the surrounding towns and lakes. Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and of course, the village of Northeast Harbor are short drives away. We were 4 adults and two boys, 8 and 10 and were perfectly comfortable. Made a few meals - even blueberry and cherry pies from scratch - and the kitchen had everything we needed. But really, the view from the deck … spectacular! We hope to return to Acadia and Maine soon, and would definitely rent this home again.
We've rented many times through VRBO, and this by far is our favorite. Location is spectacular, with privacy and water views of Somes Sound. We loved the keep it simple aesthetic. The layout is great for extended family to spread out and not be on top of each other. Everything is well stocked, from kitchen to games to wood for fireplace. There is a separate house that can be rented for even a larger group. As another reviewer said, this is simple camp-style house, and was exactly what we wanted to get away from it all. Was nice to be there for a week and not have a TV on even once. If you want to be with all the other people and activity, then head to Bar Harbor. We will be back and never wanted to leave.
We stayed at Reath's rock from 14 June to 21 June. We had never been to Maine before or Thurston's for lobster. We were with my son and his wife and two grandsons. This was definitely the best vacation we have had in years. Your place was not a rental, but a home. Thank you so much for such a beautiful place to rest relax and teach my two grandsons how to play cribbage, as they wore me out on all the trails we hiked. What a blessing to have such a place, your grandparents in heaven must be proud
We vacationed at the Reath house in July with six adults and three kids, and could not have been more pleased with the property. The privacy that this location provides is fantastic, as are the views of Somme sound and the sunset. We only used the main house, but larger groups could benefit from using the adjacent "in law" house as well.
We took great advantage of the wrap around deck for reading, playing games, and drinking coffee and cocktails. We also also appreciated the canoes and kayaks that were there for our use, and enjoyed wading and swimming right off the rocks at high and low tide. Our 7, 5, and 3 year old loved exploring the property, playing in the play house, and looking for rocks and shells.
The location of the house was really great, close enough to Acadia that it was easy to get there and enjoy all the activities the park provided, yet far enough away that we were able to enjoy the solitude and quiet of Mount Desert Island.
Our family had a great time and perfect weather for our stay in this fantastic cabin right on the Sound. The location is convenient to the National Park, downtown Bal Harbor and most of the other smaller towns nearby. We loved waking up with our coffee/tea on the deck overlooking the water. We even gotnto see the local lobsterman collecting their traps one late morning. The cabin has all the amenities and if you like to kayak or canoe it is right out your door step. We have older kids(21-25) and they loved the peaceful locations and all of the activities available. We reccomend the hiking in Acadia and any water activities. Also get the fresh lobster(they will steam them for you at not extra charge) for a feast on the sound. Owner has a list of recommended places to see or go; including restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, coffee shops, shopping, etc. The cabin has it all, if you didn't bring it, you probably don't need it.
We also offer a small guest house for separate rental at $225 a night Please email with any interest.
