On the waterfront of beautiful Somes Sound with lovely views of the water and
mountains, this spectacular property is one of the few inholdings within Acadia National Park. Situated on the shoreline of smooth and sloping granite swimming rocks and cedar picnic benches.
The deep waters of Somes Sound make excellent sailing for boats of any size and the house comes with a mooring. The house offers total privacy in the park and one can literally set off hiking, biking, and boating from the front doors. Drive or bike to the village of Northeast Harbor along Sargeant Drive three miles away. Bar Harbor is a 15 minute drive.
MAIN HOUSE: The large one story Main house has sliding glass doors offering views from all areas of the house and leading out to the spacious 450sf wraparound deck. The ceilings are high with screened opening skylights in every room including the bathrooms.
The large living room with fireplace has a spacious dining area adjacent to the fully equipped modern kitchen with island.
The Master Bedroom Suite facing the waterfront includes a private bath, a queen bed and an adjoining sitting room.
The Middle Bedroom has 2 twin beds and a double bed in the loft.
The Third Bedroom has a queen bed.
A second full bath serves these 2 rooms.
The cedar outdoor shower offers privacy, proximity to the swimming rocks, and a great view up the sound.
GUEST HOUSE: The Little House is across the stream and very private. It has a queen bed with a private bathroom and a pullout sofa bed in an alcove off the livingroom with a separate 1/2 bath. Full kitchen. Wraparound deck. Wood stove. Available as a separate rental or at additional cost when renting the Main House.
A large cedar tent platform is hidden in the woods with Adirondack chairs, a cedar chaise, and room for a 4 person tent plus another wonderful view down the sound.
In the opposite direction through the woods, past the 1930's log cabin, is a private beach.
There is also a wonderful playhouse for kids near the horseshoe pit in the woods.
An ideal compound for families or 3 -4 couples. Very child friendly. The decks have sturdy cedar railings with rope netting for safety.
we do suggest you do your food shopping in Ellsworth or Bar Harbor, as our small market in the village is very poor and pricey
Prior to booking, we must connect with you via phone or email.
Log Cabin: The classic 1934 Log Cabin is not available for rent except by special arrangement.
Please email for more info on renting Guest House. The Guest House IS available April - June and again after Labor Day through the fall. It is a small piece of heaven @ $225 per night.

Beautiful, Fun and Relaxing
We rented the main house and the guest house for our family of three grown children and their families. It was our first visit to the area and we loved every minute. The house overlooks the sound and we loved watching the sun set at night and lobstermen early in the morning. The owners are so organized and helpful with many good suggestions for restaurants, hikes, grocery stores, what to do, etc. We definitely want to go again sometime.
Thank you so much! It is an exceptional place and we are so glad your stay went well
Remarkable setting. Total privacy,
The most beautiful setting on MDI
TRULY, right ON the water, no one else anywhere nearby. A true paradise, and house is easy and complete
Heavenly Home in Northeast Harbor!
We loved staying at the "Reath Rock" at Northeast Harbor! It is a secluded cabin in the woods, right on the water, so you have extraordinary views of Somes Sound. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever had the privilege of staying in. Having coffee on the deck in the morning, enjoying the sounds of birds, and watching the lobster boats was so nice and relaxing. Sunsets in the evening were amazing! The cabin is well furnished. We had everything we needed. It is a warm and comfortable home that has a lot of history and character. The mornings and nights were chilly, so the wood burning stove was great to have. This home is in a great location within a few minutes of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Ellsworth. We even did some sight seeing on Schoodic Peninsula, which was well worth the drive over exploring different coastal villages. The drive through Acadia National Park is awe-inspiring, particularly this time of year when the foliage is near peak. Reath Rock has been family owned for several years, so they have a vested interest in this property. It is very special. The owners are responsive and wonderful to communicate with. Thanks to this family for sharing this slice of Heaven with others. Very memorable vacation and we would love to return. Thank you so much!
Thank you Cathy! It has been a spectacular fall and we are so happy you discovered the secret of Reath Rock
Gorgeous and relaxing!
This was our second summer spending a week at Reath Rock. The location on Soames Sound can't be beat- especially for the sunsets. The deck gives you peekaboo views through windswept pine trees- a perfect place for morning coffee or cocktail hour. The inside of the cottage is charmingly rustic, allowing total relaxation. Especially nice is the fireplace on a chilly evening. Our family of five had a great time- and we all hope to visit again!
thank you so much and PLEASE return!!!
Beautiful, comfortable home with amazing views
Our family (including 3 boys, ages 16, 14 and 11) loved Reath Rock and the surrounding area! The home was very comfortable, spacious and very we'll equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the spectacular views from the deck before and after we explored the various hiking trails during the day. The home was conveniently located to many areas of interest on the island, so it didn't take long to return to Reath Rock to relax following our adventures. Many nights we played board games, cards and cribbage. We made many special memories during our stay which made it very difficult to leave. We hope to visit again someday. Thank you for sharing your special home with others!
Acadia Vacation
Had a wonderful stay here on relentlessly picturesque Sargent Dr. This home was the perfect quiet place to come back to after a long day of exploring Acadia National Park and the surrounding towns and lakes. Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and of course, the village of Northeast Harbor are short drives away. We were 4 adults and two boys, 8 and 10 and were perfectly comfortable. Made a few meals - even blueberry and cherry pies from scratch - and the kitchen had everything we needed. But really, the view from the deck … spectacular! We hope to return to Acadia and Maine soon, and would definitely rent this home again.

We also offer a small guest house for separate rental at $225 a night Please email with any interest.
