About Terry Carbonell
I am a private pilot and could choose to have my vacation home anywhere; but I chose Spencer, TN. Why? Friendly folks, natural beauty, peaceful living. That's what I want in a vacation. You are close enough to Knoxville, Chattanooga or Nashville to go enjoy the Grand Ole Opre for an evening then come back out of civilization to the tranquility of the cabin.
Terry Carbonell purchased this Cabin in 2006
Why Terry Carbonell chose Spencer
There are 10 State Recreational Parks in the Cumberland Plateau area; miles of waterways and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Fall Creek Falls is amazing but do not overlook the other attractions in the area: Burgess Falls, Rock Island Falls, Cumberland Caves, Edgar Evans State Park, the Centerhill Lake area and the red roof cabin at Mountain Crest! While the area is beautiful - the red roof cabin at Mountain Crest IS your vacation destination. There is everything you could possibly need for a long term or a short terms stay. No worries if it rains: with over 400 movies, games, satellite TV and internet, there is no need to go anywhere else.
What makes this Cabin unique
My favorite things to do at Mountain Crest: 1. Sit by the fire 2. Sleep by the fire 3. Work by the fire (do you see a theme here?) 4. Play games in the game room 5. Sit on the porch swing and watch the day go by

Great Family Getaway
We've stayed at the Red Roof Cabin many times. We always have a wonderful time, and the weather was perfect. A little disappointed that overlook area and the hiking area was a little overgrown with brush that blocked the wonderful view a little. It's always great to escape to this cabin.
I am sorry the view was blocked. I just left the cabin and that was my number one priority. We have cleared the overgrowth so the view is back in all of its glory! Thank you for your comment and we hope to see you back again.
Very nice place to relax.
This was the best please I’ve had to relax Enjoyed the stay very peaceful I will go back my family and grandchildren love it we didn’t want to leave.❤️
Cozy and Convenient
Cozy Cabin and convenient to many activities. Fall Creek Falls, Burgess Falls and 90 minutes to White Water Rafting on the Ocoee River.
Manager very helpful and quickly available for any problems.
We had a very nice stay. The house is very clean a big. The property is beautiful and close to falls creek falls. Would definitely stay there again if we are ever in the are again. We had our adult children, but if you had a baby that crawls or walks, you would need 2 baby gates. The place is great !
Beautiful cabin, but ..........,
The cabin was beautiful and a perfect location for us to go hiking at Fall creek falls, Rock Island State Park and Ruby Falls. It would be nice if the second bedroom had a queen instead of a double but roomy enough for 2 families with small children. My only complaint was we were not aware until we got there that we weren’t allowed to use the washer and dryer since we were not staying 7 days. The kids enjoyed playing in the waterfalls more than I imagined and I had not packed for that so I had to drive 30 minutes one way to a laundry mat and the owner would not allow us to use. He just said the washer is not for daily use. After the amount of money we paid I felt that was a bit unfair. And while it wasn’t the owners fault I had an awful experience at the laundry mat involving my safety. All in all the cabin was beautiful but after using Vrbo for several years this was my worst experience so far.
Also our husbands were very disappointed. The fire ring out back is perfect but we found out after we got there they charge $100 to use the firewood they already have on the deck. It stated we must get our own from the woods but because it was so wet that was a challenge to find dry wood.
To all future guests: Please review ANY listing prior to booking and if you have any questions, please ask. Both the lack of a washer/dryer AND the bedding types were clearly displayed in the listing. This guest communicated with me about other things PRIOR to booking but failed to ask questions about washer/dryer and the bedding.
Regarding the wood: we provide wood for the indoor fireplace FREE OF CHARGE. I have seen many a large bon fire outside in the fire pit - fires large enough to completely deplete the 2 ricks of wood that we try to keep seasoned for the indoor fire place.
We strive to make the vacation experience special for all travelers realizing that we simply cannot please everyone.
For those reading this review, PLEASE contact me with questions or concerns BEFORE booking. I am more than happy to accommodate requests when able. Thank you.
Cabin sits on 5 acres on the side of the mountain. We have built a hiking trail to the bottom of the mountain where you can look out to see the expansive view from the bottom of the valley (January 2012). Just completed May 2012 is the hiking trail to the top of the mountain where you will be able to look down over the valley below.
