Clarks Cove is the setting for this comfortable waterfront cottage on 3 acres of land - the perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing vacation away from everyday hustle and bustle. Located in a scenic, rural area it borders a 35 acre freshwater pond and has a view of the saltwater across the road. It's within walking distance of a nature preserve with marked trails and saltwater access and an ideal location for quiet walks.
Enjoy nature, take the canoe out on the pond to explore, go fishing, or swimming right in front of the door. The porch makes a great place to relax and enjoy the large grassy backyard.
The home is an original Sears Roebuck kit house from the 20s. It has been thoroughly updated and renovated. The layout however, has been left unaltered, giving the cottage and “old fashioned” cozy feeling. The rooms are all situated on the ground floor level, making it easily accessible for young and old. The original wood floors have been refinished and provide warmth and character to the home.
We maintain a pet-free environment to accommodate allergic guests
What a splendid little place you have here - and the location, location, location. Just great!Accolades for the amazing completeness of the accomodations - right down to a zester! And the canoe and lovely peaceful pond were just wonderful.Hope to be back!
I stayed in the Cottage one week this summer and one week in autumn. The cottage is a small gem, with everything you need for basic housekeeping ready to hand. The location is superb--quiet and relaxing, between the fresh water pond and the salt cove, with lots of water birds and other wildlife (turkeys, beavers) to observe. There are wonderful walks everywhere, from the road in front of the cottage, to the many local preserves. Enjoyed paddling the pond, and walking trails at Darling Marine Center and Seal Cove, Glidden Point in Damariscotta and Dodge Point Reserve all lead to wonderful water views. Though the cottage is off the beaten path, it is convenient to shopping and dining, and a terrific base for day trips--one day I went all the way to Campobello. Lots of opportunities for kayaking and boating in the area as well. Christa is very helpful and a wealth of knowledge about the area. I look forward to a return trip!
My husband and I have visited "cozy cottage" for our Maine week getaway for many years now. It is just lovely, with lots of homey features that make it feel like home rather than a rental. We started our stay with watching the finals of the US Open tennis tournament on cable TV, but then relaxed
The property is large and private and well maintained with freshly mowed grass and scattered gardens and a path to the lake/pond with a canoe if you choose to paddle. We explored the lake in it and observed wildlife. (Beaver, osprey, bald eagle)
The area provides solitude yet is only about 15 minutes from town (Damariscotta) which has great restaurants (Chrissy's, River Grill, Rising tide Health market).
Christa is a gracious host. We look forward to our return to this cozy cottage.
My husband retired in September and we had long wanted to visit New England in the Fall. Our daughter organised a two week holiday for us, the second week being in this cosy, well equipped and beautifully situated cottage, We arrived after a long drive in the rain and dark and it felt like heaven - the door unlocked, the lights on and a welcoming message and everything ready for our arrival. Christa came to visit and welcome us the next day. We had a wonderful week exploring the peninsula, walking in the woods and by the sea, picking apples, and, of course, eating lobster! Our daughter with her husband and baby joined us for the last two nights and the cottage comfortably accommodated all of us. We would happily stay there again if we get the chance. Gini and Martyn Crompton.
We stayed with our fam ( children 10 and 11 years with parents)for one week in this lovely and cosy Cottage. The cottage has everything you wil need, and Christa is also very helpful when you have any questionsThere is so much to do in the area. THE children dit not want to go home. We loved THE place for nature and pemmaquid beach only 7 Miles. Mariska from The Netherlands
Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt in diesem perfekt ausgestatteten kleinen Häuschen. Die Besitzerin hatte viele gute Ausflugstips in die nähere Umgebung parat. Alles war sauber und sehr gut in Schuss.
We have vacationed at this lovely Maine cottage for over 10 years now and find it extremely cozy and comfortable. It is wonderfully maintained, well-stocked , and situated near lovely attractions, good restaurants, and many cultural events. The owners and their family are extremely pleasant and always available to share their knowledge of the area and to provide help whenever needed. We can't guarantee the weather but we can guarantee a restful, pleasant holiday. Sharon and Duke Hemmer NJ
The cottage is located on the Pemaquid peninsula about 7 miles south of Route 1 in the beautiful Midcoast Maine region. Situated in a rural area it is within walking distance of a nature preserve with marked trails and access to the shore.
It's an easy drive to a nice sandy beach (Pemaquid Beach), golf course, children's attractions, fishing villages, lobster wharfs and many restaurants. The closest shopping stop Damariscotta provides all the essentials, has cultural offerings, and much more. It is a quaint village that boasts many speciality shops from internet cafe, health food store, chic boutique, and seafood store to farm stands, antique shops, book store, and movie theater. Also, there is a YMCA with gym (visitor passes available), children’s playground, and tennis courts.
Local attractions include the famous Pemaquid Lighthouse, featured on the Maine Quarter coin and Fort William, a historic landmark originally dating back to 1692. Several museums (Farnsworth, Maine Maritime, Bowdoin College to name a few) are also within an hour's drive.
Book a day cruise to go sailing fishing or whale watching, visit a nesting puffin colony with a nature guide, or visit Monhegan Island, a year-round fishing community and famous artists’ colony. Stop by one of the numerous local nature preserves, parks, and sanctuaries (such as Dodge Point and La Verna Preserve) to take a stroll and/or explore the shoreline.
Attend an auction, check out the arts and crafts galleries, play a round of golf, visit one of the many close-by coastal towns such a Rockland, Camden, or Boothbay Harbor, or rent a kayak and explore the tidal Damariscotta River. Kids might enjoy a visit to the Maine State Aquarium with touch tanks and tide pools (in Boothbay Harbor), go on a lobster-catching tour, or sample some of our delicious local ice creams.
A 45-minute drive takes you to Freeport, home of LL Bean and numerous outlet stores.
