Unique & cozy
Stayed with group of friends during the weekend before the 4th of July. The house and property had everything we needed or could want. Despite rain the first 3 nights we were there, we enjoyed ourselves. The hot tub was nice to have near the house & the pond was very easy to use for us and our dogs. There was even a beaver using it one day! The yard was pretty wet after 3 days of rain, but still nice.
We really enjoyed the uniqueness of the house and didn't mind that there were no doors on the rooms. The 3.5 baths were more than enough for us. The best part was being able to bring all our dogs. We had a total of 6 there throughout the weekend and they enjoyed the property as much as we did!
Cell service was spotty between all of us but there was WiFi. We didn't use the TV until the last night to watch a movie. For that I would recommend bringing your own - there are not many movies at the house. We also brought games with us which we used a lot during the rainy times.
If you're looking for someplace unique, where you can be self-sufficient & not bothered by neighbors, this is the place!
Unforgettable weekend at picturesque Vermont house.
Couldn't have asked for a better house to have a ski weekend with friends. The house is beautiful and cozy with everything we needed. Thank you Susan!
Earthly Delight Ski House in Vermont
Went with a group of friends for a 3 day holiday ski weekend (Ages 14-60).
Loved this house..Charming layout..whimsical/yet practical in design..Fully equipped kitchen...Plenty of dining/sitting space..beautiful views...Master bedroom has a widows walk with spectacular views of the stars. Have rented many, many ski houses over the years. This one was one of our favorites. A great space to hang out in as well for those days off from skiing!! The pot belly stove will warm you all over. Hope to return.
great relaxing retreat
We enjoyed our stay greatly !! The house is a great open design.... Very cool. Every room is on a different level making it very private. The views are amazing, you see many differnt mnt. ranges. This is actually our 2nd time staying there, that is how much we enjoyed it. The big Pot Bellie stove, and the circle windows that look out on the pond.
Great features and some problems
This house is in a spectacular location and very well equipped with a great kitchen - we were there during the Olympics and appreciated the giant TV as well as the amazing views.
There were some problems though:
Note: There Are No Doors On The Bedrooms!!!!! Not sure why this is left off the description.
On the night we got there, there was no gas in the tank and we had no heat - it was freezing - and no hot water and couldn't cook. While the caretaker took care of this as soon as possible, we were surprised to receive doubt from the owner when we reported this, and no apology much less a financial adjustment. Also, the hot tub was not functioning when we arrived - workmen arrived and were there through our first morning -and the pizza oven turned out to be some stones we couldn't figure out how to use. There were no written instructions for anything that we could find. We had no instruction of how to dispose of full garbage bags for instance and there were no cans.
Nonetheless, we had a good week - but it was a mixed experience. For many, the truly amazing views might well make it worth it. By the way, AT&T cells did work but not Verizon.
In response to almondcookie: I was called at about 6:00p.m. on Saturday night about not having hot water. I don't recall being told there was no gas on the stove. I asked if they would check the electrical panel before I called the caretaker. The caretaker came within 45 minutes. He determined we were out of gas. I had just changed gas companies. They just dropped off the new tank two days earlier. I never would have guessed I was without fuel. The serviceman that came to the house said it is against the law to deliver a gas tank with fuel in it. The fuel delivery was scheduled for Friday but did not make it, I don't know why. The problem was solved within two hours. Not only did I apologize for the inconvenience but so did my caretaker and the serviceman. Pictures were sent of two bedrooms. They clearly show no doors and half walls. After renting this house for fifteen years I have only had two parties surprised about no doors. We are very careful to describe our house to people because it is unique. We describe it as multi-level, open design contemporary with wood, glass, and brass, catwalk, open railed staircases. We do this because it is not suitable for people with small children. As far as freezing, it was August 16. The evening temperature may have gone down to 60-62 degrees. The windows were open when I left Saturday morning, as they are all the time I am in the house, because it is so wonderfully refreshing. When I came back to the house after my guests had left, I walked into the house and could hardly breath because it was so hot. I checked the thermostats and found them set at 70 and 72 degrees and then found the windows left open. In the future in addition to the description of the house, people will be told the thermostats are set at 65 degrees and are locked. At the cost of heating fuel I will not be heating the outdoors. The hottub was working except for three out of 68 jets. Parts had to be ordered. The three jets were plugged but leaked, necesitating adding water every couple of days. This should not have interferred with their enjoyment of the spa. Usually, when we tell our guests how to leave the house on their departure, we tell them what to do with the trash. We usually have an instruction sheet at the house for our guests to refer to. I will be sure to post one for everyone to see in the future.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Great Ski House in Vermont!
We rented this property for the Christmas holidays and happened to be fortunate that the snow cooperated and we were able to do plenty of skiing, sledding, etc. The house is well-scituated for all winter outdoor activities. It is large and well-maintained - our only complaint would be that the bedrooms are "loft" style, as in there are not doors that close them off, so that can get a little tricky! Also beware that most cellphones do not work here and you will need to purchase a calling card to use the on-site phone (or go without). The owner has been attentive and accommodating and did keep us informed about some interior painting that was unable to be completed prior to our stay. Knowing that made it easy to accept!!!
Sledding, ice skating, x-country skiing, snowshoeing - right on the premises.
