Only a hand full of homes here offer true Waterfront seats so be careful or you could wind up sipping breakfast coffee while staring at a wall, the main access road or even dodging golf balls. Nothing here but crashing waves, Chirping birds and Breaching whales. Take a moment and read the many reviews.
Your vacation neighbors are Charles Schwab, Tom Lehman, Paul Allen (Microsoft) - His Yacht is usually cruising the Kona coast. Also Pricilla Presley, Jeff Kissinger (Me), Bob Parsons (Go Daddy), and Neil Young come here to escape the mainland in their vacation island homes here on the Big Island. Those private Jets on the end of the Tarmac belong to the many Celebs in hiding. Just Don't tell TMZ who your neighbors are !

This Oasis know as Hali'i Kai is located on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii's Big Island just 18 miles from the Keahole Kona International Airport. Birthplace of the great King Kamehameha I, tales of the favored status of this stretch of the island are legend. Blessed with a scant ten inches of rainfall annually, most days here are sun drenched and cooled by the breezes of Anaehoomalu Bay.
Experience the private amenities that Hali'i Kai has to offer. Whether it is relaxing on an aqua lounger in the pool, a golf game with friends on a Robert Trent Jones-designed course, or a romantic evening at an award-winning Ocean Grill restaurant, the amenities at Hali'i Kai will fulfill your needs and desires.
Our villa welcomes you with the serenity of a luxury retreat. An open kitchen features black-on-stainless steel appliances. The great room relaxes you with gentle earth tones. The generous private lanai is yours for alfresco dining, 365 sunsets a year !

I am King Jeff Kalamabellytoobig and this is my rags to riches to rags story....
Jeff Kissinger purchased this townhome in 2006
I drank the Kool-aid and bought at the peak now I'm hoping you will rent it and help me pay the mortgage ! The good news is I have a partner. The bad news for him is he has a wife that doesnt remember approving of this transaction.
I don't feel so stupid when I'm there. It is paradise and I hope to retire here. When I'm 93 this place will be paid for. I check our (scratch that) your home often to make sure the home is up to my stringent specifications. On my recent visit I replaced the Grill, bought new beach chairs & beach towels, books, Movies, Boogie boards, and rugs. I purchased Binoculars, a High Chair, and a Pack in Play for your families many needs.
As is usually the case I did not want to leave when I'm here! If you can find the Patron or promise to write a nice review it's yours !
Pictures cannot prepare one for the reaction we got when we opened the
front door. Your place has got to be the nicest place on the whole island
-- just amazing! We already have memories of a lifetime just sitting on the
lanai staring at the ocean, spending time with each other and drinking
coffee (and beer). I meant to drop you a quick note earlier, but we've
been so busy having the time of our lives.
Having been to Kauai so many times, I wasn't sure what to make of all the
lava on the way up! But we went to Hapuna, visited Kailua Kona and Hilo,
and are really loving this island.
Whenever we come back "home" to 15B, it never fails to amaze me to walk
through those doors and see that view. My expectations were high to begin
with, but it's no exaggeration to say we're blown away. Mahalo, Mahalo!
The Richard Family
We put 700 miles on the rental car. We saw incredible waterfalls, beaches and volcanoes. The lanai you see in the picture was my favorite spot of them all. Coffee in the morning and cold beer in the afternoon/evening while watching the whales. Perfect lodging for a family of 4 . We made great use of the snorkel equipment, beach chairs and towels. Unit 15B was the envy of everyone walking by on the path which leads to Beach 49. Jeff was the consummate host. Easy to contact and very attentive.
What can I say about this home away from home that hasn't already been said? Home is as advertised and more - great quiet gated community, home is loaded with every comfortable convenience one needs for a perfect vacation (keurig, great fluffy towels, every cooking tool one could possibly need, wifi for the teens, beach chairs etc...), to die for views of the Big Island sunset and countless whale sightings, fantastic pool area and clubhouse with restaurant serving requisite pina coladas and fried goodness, and great location close to Hilton Waikoloa, Kings Landing and Queen shopping plaza. My wife and I loved our daily runs to A-bay (must do!) and the hike (though rocky)to Black Sand Beach was quintessential Hawaii. Jeff and Erna are extremely responsive and we felt their Aloha spirit during our stay in their beautiful home. Favorite moments were coming home after a long and fun day exploring the Big Island and hanging out by the pool. After this experience, hotels are a thing of the past. Only downside was having to leave! Mahalo Jeff!
There are about two dozen or so 8 unit buildings making up Hali'i Kai, of which only 3 are ocean front. This is a ground level 2 bedroom condo in the ocean front building at then of a cul de sac. Because the first condo I rented in Hawaii 30 years ago had paper thin walls, I always ask about noise. This condo is very well constructed with double pane glass windows. Also the location means hardly any street noise from cars. I did not hear any noise from above or outside. The ground floor was actually an advantage because instead of an ocean front balcony the condo has an ocean front lanai with a narrow well-tended lawn between the unit and the lava rock at the ocean shore. To see the sunset you actually have to move your chair or walk a few feet to the ocean side of the lanai, which, of course you can't do if you have terrace.
The master suite has the ocean view and a true ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom has two twin Posturpedic beds which can be either separated or lashed together at the renter's request. It faces the parking lot. There is at present an open entrance way to both this second bedroom and a bath. I suggested to the owner that he hang a slideable curtain over this entryway to make the second bathroom truly private to the second bedroom and he said he would do that.
The living room has the same ocean view as the master suite.
The appliance are high end, it was well maintained and well supplied with spices and all the paper products a group of 4 would need for a week. The owner is very, very accessible. It was one of the nicest condos we ever rented in HI and we would rent it again if we return to the Big Island as one of two couples. (The condo would be ideal for Mom and Dad and two kids, but works reasonably well for two couples and would also be ideal for one couple.)
We like the area because of its closeness to A Bay, one of the few places on the Big Island where you can swim in a bay protected by a reef. (Actually we have only gone to the Big Island in winter--I don't know conditions of A Bay in other seasons.) The location is also very close to Hapuna beach, a big sandy beach which is rare for the Big Island. Surf at Hapuna ranges from very mild to ferocious. The beach has lifeguards. We also like the area because it is North of the Kona airport and on previous visits to the Big Island we learned that traffic is very congested to the South of the airport.
My wife and I were thrilled with our week at this well-appointed and beautifully maintained oceanfront condo which easily surpassed our expectations. The owner, Jeff, was gracious and caring, easy to converse with, and extremely responsive to our needs. We especially enjoyed the surrounding grounds which included a tropically landscaped swimming pool area, a restaurant, and a bar - all of which have breathtaking views of the water and sunsets! We enjoyed sightseeing outside the resort during the first half of the days and then returning to the pool area in the late afternoon for happy hours and sunsets. The staff at the restaurant and bar was also professional and warmly accommodating. Overall, we had a truly romantic and luxurious experience! We hope to return someday to this property which we would fully recommend to others.
When we opened the door and my wife and soon to be 13 year old boy both said "Wow" I knew we were in good shape. Condo was really well kept. Jeff was very attentive. And the tour guide book they have there was awesome! We spent more time driving than I thought to various beaches and parts of the island and coming back to Ocean Club was perfect - lava flows, appetizers, etc. And being close to a village with shopping, food, etc. was great. Only suggestion and it's so picky - on the COMPLIMENTARY coffee, maybe throw in a light / medium roast ground option. But since Jeff's a perfectionist, I included it in the review :+) Thanks for helping make this teenage birthday celebration a trip we'll remember for the rest of our lives!
This home is an absolute gem! Perfectly positioned to explore the island at large or enjoy it's splendor from the private porch and beautiful pool area, we felt we struck gold when we cancelled our resort reservations in favor of this delightful place. Jeff is a consummate host, available at a moments notice with advice or suggestions and genuinely desirous that his guests enjoy their stay. He has thoughtfully apportioned his home with every convenience to aid in their overall exeprience and it shows. We will be back!
