Rustic Cottage in beautiful location
The cottage is in a very beautiful part of Scotland , very much an away from it all location .
The cottage itself is quite charming with nice furnishings ,comfy bed, lovely pictures and a very nice bathroom.
However the kitchen dining area an extension to the cottage really lets the place down .The window frame round the sink is all rotten , several of the other Windows could fall out , and the outside of the property is secured with a keep Scotland in bill board !!!!!
Outside the garden is very rustic , but what we did find so disappointing was the lovely wooden seat so clearly shown in the pictures , the area around it was so overgrown with grass it was extremely difficult to get to .
Overall the cottage is in a beautiful situation , the cottage itself is lovely ,howevere the extension and garden near serious work done to bring this property up to scratch .
Hi The extension has had some work done, the windows are still a little old but have had maintenance we are replacing them relatively soon and we have a new gardener so I hope access to the bench will be better in the future.
Beautiful quiet location, comfy cottage
The cottage was lovely and had really comfy furniture. It was clean and welcoming. Some windows need repairs and it would benefit from a proper path to the front door and some closer to the house to park. I couldn't get through the the gate. There was no smell as a previous reviewer mentioned. A really nice touch was the wood burning fires were set up and ready to go and there was plenty of wood left for me. It is a drive to the local shop - not sure how far as I took what I needed.
The water is from a spring so is coloured by the peat landscape, it took some getting used to but had no odour and I brushed my teeth in it and was fine. The owner had kindly left bottled water for drinking although the tap water is drinkable. The bathroom was lovely and the cottage warm.
Cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings
We really enjoyed our stay in this charming cottage surrounded by wildlife. The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable and cosy. Evan the owner was most helpful and welcoming when we arrived. We visited nearby Tarbert which is a lovely harbour town (great food in The Anchorage) and our son enjoyed crabbing here! A day trip to Gigha island was fantastic (delicious Lobster in the Boathouse cafe) We enjoyed a walk up to the ancient burial chamber in nearby Torinturk. The views from here are breathtaking. There are so many interesting places to discover in this beautiful area whatever the weather! We hope to be able to return here again sometime.
beautiful, charming and perfect for Christmas.
Spent a lovely Christmas in the cottage with my two children and our wee dog.
The cottage is exactly as it looks in the photos. Incredibly charming, everything very simple and tasteful. Evan had left us lots of logs for the wood burning stoves, but there are also plenty of electric heaters so it never took long to warm the cottage (despite some gale force weather outside).
There are lovely walks on the doorstep and as we were only there for three days we didn't explore any further afield. The view from the kitchen is just fantastic, as it is from the bench outside. I really appreciated the fully enclosed garden which was great for the dog. The night sky on a clear night is amazing - a really special experience.
Worth noting (especially if you're going with children) that's there's no live TV, but the video library is very extensive and we found plenty to keep us entertained.
No hesitation in recommending this as a wonderful peaceful retreat.
Superb cottage with an idyllic back drop
The cottage is in a peaceful location with beautiful lochside views. It is well equipped and has 2 log/peat fired stoves if the weather turns cool. It is close to Tarbert and ideal base for exploring Kintyre although we found it hard to leave the bench in the garden!
Great communication from the owner.
It really is a special place.
We had a truly superb week at the cottage. It was so beautifuly furnished and had everything you could need. Really felt like home as it was decorated so like outr own home, even had the same groovy fridge. The weather was amazing all week so made the experience all the more enjoyable. Douglas, our 2 year old Westie loved his holiday in Scotland....His was particularly interested in the sheep in the surrounding fields. Unfortuanltey, he had to make do with looking at them through the kitchen window, otherwise he would have been chasing them around the fields. Great local walks up past Tarbert Castle and local beaches, where we could let Douglas off the lead safely. We spent a day on the island of Gigha...well worth a visit: beautiful gardens and a superb little beach..we were eveni in the sea, it was that warm ! Recommend The Boathouse for lunch...very friendly and good food. Overall, the only downside was I was bitten to death by midges...but I don't think you can help this in June in Scotland. One week was really not enough and we are sure to be back. Thank you so much Evan for renting your wonderful home to us.
