Le temps était mauvais mais tout le reste était excellent

  • 5 of 5

large dated dirty cool house, deep pool but very quiet area

  • 1 of 5

Beautiful surroundings, but house was large and cool, but also very dirty and damp. Very dated decor in most areas. Sofas so dated had to be covered in dirty covers. Horrible smell from cess pit outside bedroom window. Noise from the neighbour (owner!) TV was loud. All towels provided although most had stains on them. Pool deep but excellent for good swimmers. Pictures provided are from 2012 and very little has been done since. Field at bottom of garden is overgrown now. Note the absence of pictures of 4th bedroom and 2nd bathroom, I now know why!!

Owner's Response: It is very difficult to respond to criticism like this. All I would ask if you would look at Damian B. review whose party of eight arrived 6 hours after emma had left. Do you think they are both referring to the same property? The property is not listed as luxury and I accept that in no way is it the Five Star Ritz Hotel that she seemed to have expected, but it is clean, whatever she said and tidy. Most of all it is excellent value for money which is our aim. The two weeks that her party was with us it never seemed to stop raining and of course, this did not help. She, her husband and their children when at the property also had his Mun and Dad staying and I don’t think this helped. To answer some of the criticisms; 1: “house was large and cool, but also very dirty and damp.” Maybe not absolutely spotless and sparkling but never dirty and as for damp that is ridiculous. 2: “Horrible smell from cesspit outside bedroom window.” We live in the house out of season and like every guest that has stayed with us over the last eight years have never noticed any smell from the Fosse Septique. “All towels provided although most had stains on them.” Absolute nonsense. “Noise from the neighbour (owner!) TV was loud. “ Not possible to hear in the house but from some areas around the pool, it is likely. Why did she not ask for it to be lowered if it was that bad?

the pool and garden was ideal for my family.

  • 4 of 5

Overall we enjoyed our stay, the pool and garden was brilliant, the house could do with updating, however we still very much enjoyed the space for our 2 families.

Owner's Response: Damain it was a pleasure having you all with me. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and the pool is the main feature of the properrty. We will be again working on updating the house in the close season. but I have to try and keep the cost down to ensure that again next season the prices will not increase.

A lovely surprise and was enjoyed by all

  • 5 of 5

This is the first time that we have written a review but felt that we should this time. We booked very late and were concerned about what we were to find as the Home Away STAR Reviews had shown a very much mixed picture of the property but there was no need to worry. The Property is what the advert says and we were delighted with our holiday.

There were 6 of us and there was plenty space and the house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and more. As we could not bring as much clothing as we would have like it was no problem, as the utility room had a large washing machine, dryer and big steam iron and ironing board. The Big TV and SKY was invaluable as we all love sport, especially football.

My husband has a small business and he was able to spend an hour or two keeping contact as the house has good wifi and this was one of the deciding factors.

The pool and outside area was lovely and we were able to swim even though it was spring. We spent many lovely evenings in the BBQ and Gazebo area.

There are so many nice places to visit within easy driving distance. In the town, there is a Tourist Office and that was a great help.

The local area has supermarkets and shops for everything for your holiday and you are still in the countryside.

Two restaurants are within easy walking distance and further afield others offering very good value. Peter will give good advice.

We were very lucky with the weather and that of coursed helped.

We hope that this might help others when choosing where to stay.

This was the 3rd time I have stayed here in the last 5 years. First with my wife and two friends in the spring, the second time in August with daughter and her children they loved the place especially the pool and the local park with a sandy lake and playground. This time I went with four mates for the fishing.

The holidays were all 5 Stars, the house is not the Ritz and would be about 3 stars as a hotel but has everything you could expect and is clean. The location is ideal for visiting wonderful places, it is close to supermarkets and all the shops you need yet is in the countryside.

The latest trip for local fishing was fantastic, not that we caught any giant carp but got our fair share. The Dordogne river was wonderful and the river by the house was very good we also went to Lac Gurson. Peter helped us with a cleaning lady and supplied the food for breakfast and packed lunches. At night we eat locally and again Peter gave us the best places to eat that did not cost the earth.

Lovely Holiday and Great Value

  • 4 of 5

Nice house with everything you could need. Exceptional Pool with good BBQ and eating area. Old outside fridge was great for having a cold beer or wine by the pool in the evenings.

Where the property is situated makes it ideal for visiting fantastic towns and sites. Bordeaux, Saint-Émilion, Perigueux, Bergerac and many other places of interest within an hours drive. We did a whole day trip to Grotte de Lascaux and Sarlat about 150 mile round trip but well worth it.

I spent a few mornings fishing in the nearby river and local lake; big Carp if you can catch one! Peter who was very helpful got the licence for me.
