Excellent Find...

We stumbled upon this rental on VRBO and could not have been more pleased. The accommodations were perfect - we had three adults and two children and there was plenty of room for all. Not only was the house wonderful, but the town of Broadwell was the highlight of our trip. It is such a lovely, unassuming town perfectly situated in the Cotswolds, but not caught up in the touristy sections. Our kids loved the open spaces to run and play, Herman (the pub horse) strolling through town every afternoon, the garden and the house. We truly enjoyed our stay and will most certainly come back. As an added bonus, we arrived to the most delicious chocolate cake. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A Great Long Weekend!

  • 4 of 5

My husband, toddler and good friend all spent a great wedding weekend at this home in the Costwolds. We had a great time and there were a lot of toys for my toddler to play with. Beds were very comfortable and the house was very clean and well furnished. The only fault was that we had window washers and landscapers come on two different morning when we were staying there which was surprising (for the window washer and us!) and loud. The rooms can get warm if you pull down the shades in the child room too and the stairs are very narrow and steep so could be hard for some to navigate but gave great character and charm. Lovely gardens and had a great time! Thanks

A charming Cotswold hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at 3 The Bank in Broadwell. The house is a comfortable and spacious period property, with all the important modern conveniences, and one or two welcome luxuries. It also has all the quirky character we were looking for in a holiday let, with thick hewn wood floors, fireplaces, deep cushioned window seats and great country views from all the rooms. We found everything was clean, neat and in good repair.

The large garden is lovely and well maintained with a terrace and table for outside dining. One special indulgence is the soaker tub off the attic bedroom – a delightful way to relax after a long day of sightseeing. The local pub is very welcoming, with good food, and groceries are available a short drive away in Stow.

Guests with mobility problems should note that, because this is an old house, two of the three flights of spiral stairs do not have handrails, and the risers vary in height, so caution is necessary on the stairs.

The property owner provided us with excellent information about the house and the surrounding area, and we felt at home the moment we arrived. We enjoyed our visit immensely, and highly recommend this cottage.

Broadwell is a small, sought after village, with a nice village green, proper local pub and natural 'ford' running through it. The green itself is ringed by some lovely Cotswold Stone cottages and has a gentle stream running through the village - a tributary of the Evenlode.

The village itself was mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086. At that time it had 46 inhabitants, whereas today we are closer to 400. In the Middle Ages the estate belonged to the Benedictine Order of Monks. Today the village is a mix of locals and weekender plus a healthy influx of visitors who either come to the area as tourists, or as people from other villages and towns who come to the Fox pub or to spend some time on the lovely village green.

The nearest town is Stow-on-the-wold, about a mile away up the hill. You can walk here within 20 minutes or drive in a couple. Stow is a great spot. The town itself was a market trading town and is now a popular tourist there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops. There is also a very good Tesco on the road just before entering Stow.

Beyond Stow you are right in the middle of the Cotswolds here. Most places such as Kingham, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton, Broadway, Bledington, Oddington and The Slaughters, Northleach etc. are all within 20 minutes.

Slightly further afield is Warwick, Stratford, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Oxford. All easily done in a day.

The area is fantastic for people of all ages. We have young kids and have had great times at lots of different attractions.
