Great location with fabulous views
We had a very nice visit to Long Beach and staying at this VRBO property. The property has an oceanview heated pool, spa, and outdoor tables, the views are expansive, the unit is large and has some nice upgrades. The kitchen, floors, master bath and bathrooms are nicely done, for example. However, the renovation process does not appear yet to be complete, as there is peeling ceiling paint in the living room (a general professional paint job is needed throughout), old light fixtures are still sticking out from the ceilings, and the linens in the second bedroom need replacing. The unit came well-equipped in the kitchen, as well as chairs and a boogie board. The unit is close to rental scooters and bikes and shops. It's an older part of town with some gentrifying, but not on par with the Orange County beaches yet, in our experience. If the price had been cheaper (we paid $300 total per night) I would have rated it a 5-star. Overall, this was a very nice, though not luxious, experience.
The building dates from a while ago (70ies?) so some of the building features are probably not the most modern and more likely to fail. In our case we had severe issues with congested water pipes in the kitchen area. It turned out not to be an apartment issue but rather a building issue which can obviously happen anywhere . John was very helpful to have it fixed within 24 hours and we could re-use the kitchen again. The only real complaint we had, was that the kitchen equipment was a bit sparse and spotty. Only two knives , three forks , no kitchen knives , 1 cereal bowl, etc. Again , John provided whatever we requested in no time at all. We just found it a bit strange to look at “ empty” cabinets when moving in.
Master bedrooms magnificent, the second bedroom has no windows at all, so if u r a party of four you may face some resentment from half the party ... ( we had the view😀😀😀)
With all ranting over though, the views were fabulous and absolutely worthwhile.
This property is excellently located along the beachfront in Long Beach. The unit was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. It has an '80s feel to it, with floor to ceiling mirrors on all the walls. It had some minor issues such as broken drawers in the refrigerator and the locks on the balcony sliders did not work.
The main selling points of this unit are location and view. It is a corner, water facing unit on the 6th floor in one of the few tall buildings along this portion of the beach. The view is uninterrupted water and sand from the dining/living room and the master bedroom, both of which have balconies. The kitchen also has a water view. The beachfront trail and thick sand beach are immediately in front of the building. You can run or walk down the trail or beach a long way if you head south, or if you head north you will soon pass the marina. This beach area in front of the building is surprisingly quiet. I refrained from swimming, however, because the water had an "urban" look to it with more floating garbage than I would have liked. There shops and restaurants in the area if you walk a few blocks off the beach.
Until renting this unit, I had not realized that Long Beach is in a cooler microclimate within southern California. Although it was the last half of June, the temperatures were around 65-72 most of the time during the day. This was perfect for me, but my wife wished it was hotter. Air conditioning was not needed, because the unit has an excellent breeze if you open the sliders.
Four stars instead of five because (1) parking was on the 6th floor of a tight parking structure, requiring 24 90 degree turns in order to get either in or out, (2) there were instructions in the unit about how to hide from others in the building that we were short term renters, and (3) the check in process was difficult, as the owner did not send the address or check in instructions, I had to request them, then when provided the first time they were incorrect, and check in ultimately required meeting in person outside the locked gate, which was difficult because the owner does not live there, and there is no street parking. I had to block the street in my running car until they arrived.
We had such a great time and my family really enjoyed the unit. It was perfect! The property owner ensured we had everything we needed at all times, and was quick to respond.
Long Beach condo
I thought the property was kind af dumpy. They had a 2nd wall hanger on the top of the kitchen trash can to open it because it was broken. Apparently he was not allowed to sublease. Great location on the beach but Long Beach is not a nice beach for SoCal. I felt like the unit was dirty.
Perfect view & best way to end our vacation
We loved this place - the beach location, the amenities, the pool, hot tub, living space. It was perfect for our family of four. John was very helpful and responsive and made check-in a breeze and everything we needed was provided.
