Elegant and Historic Villa Directly on Windermere Beach w/ Pool

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

5 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, Sleeps 10

Welcome to Provender House, a five-bedroom villa perched above the pink and white sands of Windermere Beach on exclusive Windermere Island. Provender is the secret hideaway where Prince Charles and Lady Diana spent their honeymoon in 1981. Privacy and seclusion guaranteed. It is rare to see another person’s footprints in the sand.

All the main living and sleeping areas have wonderful views of the ocean, with glass sliding doors opening wide onto balconies and sun porches. No better beach and ocean view is to be found anywhere in the Bahamas. The Windermere Club, with tennis courts and swimming pool, is a five-minute walk from the house. Club membership is included with the rental.

The heart of the house is an open-plan living room and dining area, with a pretty Italian tiled floor throughout. Glass doors slide wide open onto balconies and a porch overlooking the beach. Ceiling fans and sea breezes ensure the air conditioners in every room are rarely needed. The kitchen is fully equipped. The five bedrooms can accommodate nine people, comprising two king bedrooms, two twin-bedded rooms (which can be converted to kings), and one single-bed room. All bedrooms have a full en-suite bathroom. All bedrooms but the single have views of the beach. The sound of the sea will lull you to sleep at night. An extra camp bed can be provided for a child, to allow a party of ten to use the house.

There are balconies and a porch with loungers overlooking the ocean and a wooden sun porch at the back, a perfect place to barbecue your catch of the day! (Barbecue provided.) Steps lead down directly from the house to the beach.

The nearby Club at Windermere (five minutes walk) has a swimming pool and tennis courts available all year round, and a bar and restaurant open November to May. Membership of the Club is included in the rental. As well as the spectacular Atlantic beach below the house, there is also a more secluded beach cove nearby (five minutes by car) with warm shallow waters, ideal for small children.

The nearest supermarkets are 20/30 minutes drive away, as are a good selection of restaurants, some in the local simple style, others offering a high standard of cuisine. A cook and/or babysitter are available if required. A daily four-hour maid service is included in the rental. The caretaker is very helpful in organizing fishing and boating trips, etc.

Provender comes equipped with two kayaks, a windsurfer (for adult or child), and bicycles. There is an outdoor shower for rinsing off the salt and sand after a day on the beach. Other amenities include air conditioning, a landline telephone (phone cards can be purchased for long-distance outgoing calls), broadband wifi, satellite TV and daily housekeeping (except Sundays and holidays). A yoga teacher and beauty therapist will make house calls.

Windermere Island is for the exclusive use of the owners and renters of the small number of villas situated on it. It has long been the favoured destination of those seeking peace and privacy (the British Royal Family amongst them). Eleuthera itself is one of the outlying “family islands” of the Bahamas, famed for its unspoilt, uncrowded beaches with pink sand and clear turquoise waters. The pace of life is leisurely, guaranteed to be an antidote to the stresses of modern day living.

Eleuthera is a prime location for the sport of bone fishing and the exceptionally clear waters are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving on the nearby reefs. The adjacent Harbour Island (ninety minutes by car and water taxi), popular with film and rock stars, is famed for its pretty colonial-style buildings – well worth a day’s visit.

Places to visit on Eleuthera itself include the spectacular Glass Window Bridge, the Hatchet Bay Caves, the Rock Sound ocean hole, and Preacher’s Cave. The brightly painted houses of the local 'settlements' echo all the colours of the island.

Best Beach in the World.

  • 5 of 5

Provender House on Windermere Island is simply the best vacation we have all had. Perfect layout for a vacation house. For the entire week we were there we only say 2 people walk by. Very safe, Pink Sand Beach for as far as you can see in both directions. Warm waters with waves you can surf and body surf on. Wish we had brought our surfboards. Calm during low tide and then nice waves at high tide. Clean beach as well, no seaweed or jelly fish to deal with. Can't say enough good things about this place. Matthew Simon was awesome to work with and gave us all great tips. Will be back next year!

Far better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

Being better than expected was difficult given the lofty expectations before arriving...However, that is precisely what happened. Every aspect of this trip to Provender House created the absolute best trip our family has ever taken. I can't say enough about the beautiful accommodation and location. If you are looking for your own slice of paradise away from throngs of people, this is the perfect choice. We began every day on the exquisite deck overlooking the beach and ended every evening on it. The house is set up perfectly for a beach getaway. I was skeptical after reading the review about barely seeing anyone while visiting in July. I believe we saw 4 people in seven days on a 2 mile stretch of beach. This was exactly what we were looking for. The reefs in the water made for incredible snorkeling and spear fishing for our 16 year old son and his best friend. The safety, freedom, clubhouse and private location (and wifi in the house) made for the perfect getaway for our 14 year old daughter and her best friend. The 100 foot walk to the beach made it perfect for my wife and I. William, the caretaker was the most gracious, hospitable person I have ever encountered. He and his wife, Bobbette, made sure that everything we needed was provided as it related to the house. Matt Simon was such a wealth of knowledge of Eleuthera and provided us very valuable information in advance of our first trip to Eleuthera and Windermere Island. I want the owner of this property to know how much we enjoyed our stay and that Provender House is such a precious gem on a perfect stretch of white/pink sand beach. It has truly created memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. Without a doubt, our family will be looking to travel back to Provender House each summer for the foreseeable future.

Perfect House/Pink Sand Paradise

  • 5 of 5

After reading the other reviews, I'm afraid I'm going to sound repetitive. But I think it bears repeating. I booked Provender House for a group of nine high school friends celebrating our (well, I won't reveal our age) birthdays. Everything was wonderful. The house was beautiful and had all things needed for a fun and relaxing vacation. The pink sand beach lined with gorgeous homes was the prettiest I've ever seen (and I've been to a lot of beaches). The beach is about 5 miles long and we loved doing our daily walks on it. We rarely saw anyone else and so it felt like we had this strip of paradise all to ourselves. The living space and dining area was perfect for our group. Lots of seating and tables for games, puzzles, conversations and several dinners. And this is rare to say about a rental, but all commented that the beds were incredibly comfortable. William and Bobbett, the caretakers and Mahalia, the housekeeper took such great care of us. Anything we needed was immediately provided. We hired Bobbett to cook a traditional "island meal" for us and I highly recommend doing this! So delicious, especially her peas with rice and mac and cheese!! Besides lounging on the beach and long walks, some of the highlights of our trip were lunch at Sunset Grill (great "grouper fingers"), BBQ at Pascal's, picnic on Ten Cove Beach, day at Harbour Island (fun touring in golf carts), crossing the Glass Window Bridge, dinners at Tippy's, and excellent snorkeling at Twin Cove Beach. We also enjoyed the Windermere Island Club, the kayaks and bikes provided with the house. And I cannot end this review with a special thanks to our realtor, Matt Simon. To say he was "helpful" throughout the process of booking the house all the way through our check-in and stay would be somewhat of an understatement. None of us had ever been to Eleuthera and he provided all the information and resources we needed for a great vacation. Matt knows Eleuthera! (I nicknamed him

"Mr. Eleuthera") I look forward to working with him again on another trip. Trust me, I will be back!!

Paradise found

  • 5 of 5

Stepping into Provender and looking out to the ocean, we instantly relaxed and stayed that way the whole week. We found the house and grounds to be exactly as described. The house was bright, clean, and comfortable. Even the beds were comfortable, which is rare for me to say. The kitchen was stocked with everything we could need. The staff at the house was so kind and helpful. From directing us to a local restaurant to eat on the first night, to hooking us up with fresh seafood for a feast on our last night, they made sure we were well taken care of! We visited a lot of the island, all the way up to Harbour Island and down to Lighthouse Beach (our favorite!), but we most enjoyed being at the house. On the island, you will not find a lot of tourists, or crowds, but you will find a lot of nice people and some of the most breathtaking (and empty or near-empty if you visit in winter) beaches anywhere. We can't wait to go back to Eleuthera, and Provender!

Has it all

  • 5 of 5

Provender , which appears to have been substantially fixed up very recently--brand new living room furniture, four renovated bathrooms with brand new fixtures, etc. gets five stars. The house is in a perfect location with the Windermere Club --with restaurant, bar, gorgeous sound and ocean views and a pool-- virtually next door , an unparalleled 3 mile empty ocean beach steps out the door, and a warm lagoon -just perfect for our French picnic from Banks Road Deli- within walking and biking distance. The house has 5 nice bicycles, boogie boards, NICE snorkeling equipment, kayaks and even a wind surfer for guests to use!

If you are interested in very challenging DIY bonefishing without a guide from shore, something Eleuthera is world famous for, the HUGE walkable flats in back of the house are world class. Hard to imagine anything could beat the access provided by this rental.

Windermere is close to a real grocery store --in Rock Sound-- which is also a plus.We had take out from Sammy's in Rock Sound and it was the best take out we've had on the island. The fresh customizable wait-as -you -watch conch salad in Tarpum Bay was beyond description and a very healthy substantial meal. Shantziis in Tarpum Bay was also very good and very close. While you wait for your takeaway, try her bar rum drinks, some original.

We've been to Eleuthera probably 15 times and it still gets TEN stars. And its even getting better. For some reason the internet worked well the whole time, there was plenty of water and good water pressure, and we only lost electric for ten minutes twice. And it's suddenly very clean. But what makes it the best is how quiet and untouristed it is, so I don't know why I am writing a review for the whole world to see! Matt Simon gets tens stars as well; there aren't many outfits like his and there aren't many people like him. Classic "available, affable, and able". I have been so impressed with him that four of us made a special trip up to Govenor's Harbour because we wanted to meet him.
