Awesome retreat.....

  • 5 of 5

What a spectacular alternative for our family vacation. My wife, 5 kids, and I had a great time at the cabin. Very close to activities like Howe Caverns and Cooperstown which we were sure to check out while we were there. I only wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of the cabin itself. I am thinking romantic getaway next time :)

Thank you again for a wonderful stay....

I would highly recommend staying here to anyone who is interested in taking in the area attractions or is just looking for some very peaceful time to get away from it all.

Owner's Response: Dear Jeff, We are so happy that your family enjoyed the cabin. It is our hope that children learn to love nature. We are delighted to hear all that you did in the area and also hope that you will have a chance to relax in the woods next time. Peter and I have spent many getaways at the cabin after our children were old enough to stay with Grandma. It has always been a great place to make decisions and, yes, romantic! All the best, Peter and Bernadette

An Oasis in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

July 11, 2016

To the caretakers of this oasis and to those who may follow:

Staying here was an amazing, enriching and almost cleansing experience. The moments leading to our arrival were filled with much anticipation and excitement… and arriving here was a fulfillment of those feelings. The journey here with its scenic views, quaint towns and every winding road only added to our enjoyment.

The surrounding areas, and thanks to your thoughtful binder, are filled with enough activities to entertain families and couples alike. We were fascinated enough to enjoy the Secret Caverns as well as breweries, and other destinations that intrigued our thirsty pallets.

Mainly, our journey here for us was a time where we freed ourselves of the distractions of everyday life and work - A time where the best of our efforts and thoughts and desires were only focused on each other.

If there is one thing I leave to anyone whose eyes are reading my words, it is to really take the time to appreciate everything around you right now…the quaint and warm cabin, the beauty of the nature around you, the company you may keep right now. There is beauty in all around you, and in yourself. We forget that sometimes…

Finally, I’m humbled to say, my special girl and I are a part of the history, the story and the legacy of this cabin as are you. Let the warm feelings and memories this cabin has absorbed over the years embrace you and humble you, as it has us.

We hope to return one day and enjoy everything this cabin has to offer.

Thank you,

Ernie and Terry

Incredibly peaceful weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Peter and Bernadette

Thank you for opening the doors to your cabin. It's beautiful, relaxing and filled with positive energy. Our anniversary was approaching and I couldn't decide what to gift Ethan. He has made me laugh every day since we met, always putting my happiness first. After two stressful weeks at work I thought I would return the favor and fill his world with peace, love and laughter. Your cabin has provided exactly that! At first he was worried we would get bored, but the moment we walked in, his aura changed, the TV remained off, our cellphones put away and his smile covered his face.

Peace and quiet is priceless. We have both realized the importance of getting away, of having unplanned days, time to read and nap and think of no responsibilities. For that, thank you!

Owner's Response: Stephanie it's so good to hear how much you appreciate the peacefulness that nature brings. Our log cabin was a small part of what you experienced- it's not where you are; it's who you're with. Hold on to that peace. Take care, Peter

Thank you Peter and Bernadette!

This weekend was fantastic! We loved the warmth of the cabin, the details in every room, how comfortable was everything! We enjoyed the fire pit, looking at the stars, the colors of the leaves, the iron stove! wow! Fantastic experience, something to treasure for ever! Peter was super cool on the phone, I will recommend this treasure on the woods for ever!

Thank you for such a wonderful weekend!

Owner's Response: Your review really brought a smile to our faces. At 64 years old and I'm still cool ! I think it's probably that we're like-minded in our appreciation of nature. It's so good that you got the full experience. Now if you can just hold on to it for as long as possible.

Peter and Bernadette's cabin is fantastic! As soon as you step in to the cabin you'll know.. what an excellent choice! Spot on every detail "if you need some, use it. If you have some, leave some" The accommodations are very comfortable, the cabin has that warmth you only get in your own house. Fall colors at their peak made this weekend escapade something to remember!

We will return, that is for sure.

Owner's Response: I enjoyed getting to know you on the phone...especially your confidence about cooking on the fire pit and it being a part of your culture. It was good to hear the bonding that went on with your family. That's a precious gift. You and your family added a good spirit to the cabin.

Rustic, quiet and cosy.

  • 4 of 5

Peter's log cabin is awesome. Very rustic with a lot of charm. It's cosy and comfortable and has that lovely log cabin smell. It's very quiet and serne. Drinking coffee outside in the morning on the picnic table listening to the wildlife was so nice. The beds were very comfortable and although it sleeps 8, that many people might be a bit of a squeeze. The outside grill / fire pit was awesome. One night we threw on some Korean marinated beef and pork and nothing can beat cooking over an open fire.

There's not much more I can write here that others haven't written except that it's very chill and quiet if that's what you're after.

My only gripe was the fact the fridge was too small. We like to cook and there wasn't much room to stash the fish, meat and vegetables we had brought with us. We had to improvise with a cooler and buy lots of bags of ice from the nearby Stewarts. Sadly the local supermarkets really aren't up to par if you're looking fro fresh meats and fish. We were only there for 3 days, so it was fine. But if you're coming for a week, then it might be a problem if you want to freeze food.

I won't hesitate coming back. Was thinking it would be brilliant in Winter.

Owner's Response: We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. It was also good hearing that your parents came all the way from England and enjoyed their stay at the cabin and the surrounding area. We also enjoy cooking on the fire pit...even pizza! I wish you had mentioned the problem with the refrigerator space while I was on the phone with you when you were at the cabin as there's another small fridge in the closet up in the loft. Because of this discussion others who go to the cabin will now know it's there so thanks for bringing it up.
