Good budget-friendly apartment. "Old school Vail." Huge square footage. Would rent again.

  • 4 of 5

We were on a tight budget during an expensive high-demand time (Spring Break) so we were just looking for CONVENIENT, CLEAN, & AFFORDABLE for a family ski trip to Vail. This place provided that so 4 stars from me (not that it's a 4 star hotel). Kind owner.

In Breakaway West, really easy to hop on free town bus to Vail Village 3x an hour. Bus stop 75 yards from front door.

I'd describe apartment as old school Vail: Vail doesn't offer this big anymore, certainly not at this rate. Reminded me of my 1st college off-campus apt: Older with some cosmetic repair/touchup issues that aren't a big deal to me and about what you'd expect for the affordable price. It was decently equipped in the kitchen, & housekeepers had left behind a LOT of condiments, sauces, salad dressings, & staples like foil, plastic wrap, garbage bags, detergent, and ice from the previous renters. This seemed a kind gesture, & we just didn't use any leftover food due to uncertainty of age, but we left some ice cream and unopened frozen items for others. Judging from the huge amount of cooking utensils, I'd guess this apartment has been rented for many years.

If seeing leftover kitchen staples from others distresses you, or if you are looking for the Ritz Carlton or the latest stylish decor you'll be disappointed. This is BASIC and FUNCTIONAL. We bought some candles and Febreze to freshen up our stay, and it looked like others had done the same before us.

There is a large noisy dog directly upstairs from the master bedroom who barked a lot and would apparently jump off a chair or bed onto the floor (ceiling of the rental unit). Wifi exists but inconsistent. TONS of floor space to put kids on air mattresses etc. if you need that. The 2nd bedroom has a bunk bed with twin up top & double down below. Lots more floor space in 2nd BR. Plus you have the pullout sofa in Living Room; you COULD sleep a big family here.

Appears to be only 1 building that has new and updated exterior (by hot tubs). No doubt if this building gets updated, then the cosmetic items I noticed might be fixed (and the price will likely have to go up 50% to pay for it).

By the way: the reviewer complaining about "heavily perfumed, toxic cleaners lingering on the linens - we are used to non-toxic, green laundry " is nuts. With in-unit washer dryer-she could have easily washed sheets and towels in her own detergent. She must really struggle at hotels. The detergent provided was TIDE, give me a break

Hard to Beat

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking for new and fancy, this condo isn't for you. But, if you're looking for a great value for a more "vintage" condo with all of the comforts of home....this condo is hard to beat. Comfortable beds, comfortable living room furniture, fully equipped kitchen with lots of spices and other necessities, convenient location (free bus picks up and drops off right across the street), hot tub, gas fireplace, cable tv and internet, gas barbecue

Great rate, location

  • 4 of 5

The condo had everything we needed and was a perfect location. A few repairs needed, but we're not picky. The beds were clean and comfortable, easy in and out. The offseason rate was ridiculous. Thank you.

Loved it ! Great location Great Value

  • 5 of 5

This was a great condo to stay at for a visit with our daughter. Roomy & comfortable. Everything you could want for cooking - just look. Being able to use the grill was awesome. Nice view from sitting on the deck. Loved having access to the hot tub. Close to bus stops and close enough to walk to the village. Accessible parking.

The only issue was the heavily perfumed, toxic cleaners lingering on the linens - since we are used to non-toxic, green laundry.

I would definitely book it again.

Great value, clean property

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this condo with our toddler and had a great time. The location is convenient (we biked to Vail Village and to the riverside trail, and the grocery store/restaurants aren't far away), the property was clean, and the kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and cookware, making it easy to prepare a few of our own meals. Overall, the place needs a little attention in terms of updating and decor maintenance, but again, it was clean and we could let our little one crawl around on the floor. The price we paid was excellent for what we got, and we'd stay there again!

GREAT place to stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have been coming to Vail for the past 12 years and have stayed at many places throughout East and West Vail. Ron's place is almost perfect! It is reasonably priced, very comfortable, has a nice view, is within 100 yards of a bus stop, has a full kitchen with everything needed to cook (including fantastic knives), a gas GRILL!!!, and plenty of room for up to 7 people (2 in MBr, 2 in full bed bottom of bunk in guest room, 1 in top of bunk in guest room and 2 on couch in living room. Some might consider it dated, but my guess is that not too many people's houses are much different. It is really like home. Now you can pay ALOT more to get this is you wish, but we are never in the unit except to sleep, eat and chill after a long day of skiing. The only two things that make it less than perfect are the steps required to get to the unit (definitely not the safest in ski boots, especially if you are older) and the need to move the car if it snows and the lot needs to be cleared. We will be staying here again.
