About Susan Mansfield
My husband and I live in Rowayton Connecticut (a town on Long Island Sound) in Fairfield County, just an hour from New York City. From 1975-2016 we owned two businesses (photography and communications) here in Rowayton. No commuting ever because our studio/office is right next door to our house. We have two daughters, a son-in-law and three grandchildren who also live in Rowayton – we are very lucky! I have always called Boca Grande “Rowayton South” and Rowayton “Boca Grande North” because the two places have so much in common – they are both on the water, have terrific shops and restaurants, very friendly people and lots of dogs! I recently started renting my house in Rowayton too and enjoy taking care of my renters in the south and north!
Susan Mansfield purchased this House in 1989
Why Susan Mansfield chose Boca Grande
Boca Grande is a very special place. When you cross the bridge it's as though you've gone back to an earlier time when life was simpler. It's one of the most beautiful and relaxing places in the world. People come from all over the world to stay in my home, but they also come from as close by as Sarasota -- a one hour drive! I've found that many Floridians think of Boca Grande as a vacation destination -- about 1/3 of my renters are from in-state and they have visited from 37 states. Only 13 to go!
What makes this House unique
I work very hard to make sure my renters have a wonderful, relaxing vacation. I can arrange fishing (backwater and Tarpon), boat tours to nearby islands for swimming and lunch, book massages and let you know where to rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards, dock and boat and trailer, get fresh catch shrimp and stone crabs at the docks and provide a list of the best restaurants.

Had a girls long weekend and it was perfect for the four of us. Great location - easy walk to the beach and fabulous restaurants. We had coffee on the front porch every morning and loved the pool. Everything you can think of needing is provided. We hope to come back! PS the golf cart is awesome to explore the island.
A Dream of a Place to Stay
351 Tarpon is a dream. The house tucks you in with various cozy areas to relax and enjoy. The front porch is a heavenly place to read, write or relax. The pool is so beautifully landscaped and designed you could spend your whole time out there. The kitchen is a lovely size with everything you need and an airy feeling as well. The living room is also a comfortable, inviting place to be. The bedrooms lull you to sleep.
And the location is ideal. You’re in the historic district so able to walk everywhere - shops to shore. You can walk from one side of Boca Grande to the other, water surrounds you. Or use the golf cart which is great fun and makes getting around a breeze. From the most inviting, open air library to the national park and lighthouse on the other end, Boca Grande is a pleasure and this house a delight.
Susan is there for you whatever you need. She’s pleasant, informative and kind. She knows the locals and from the most exquisite massage I’ve ever received to a marvelous boat ride out to an island for lunch, she happily recommends extra special moments to weave into your stay.
Perfect for families
This space was perfect for our family. Really clean, and well kept. Everything we could have needed or wanted was provided. The kitchen is fully equipped, the porch is perfect for busy toddlers, the living room very comfortable, and the pool perfect! Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful trip. This time of year Boca grande is very quiet and peaceful. The property was clean and comfortable, just as described. It’s a close walk to the beach. The back yard was a great place to grill and enjoy the weather.
Little Slice of Paradise
Just got back from our third stay on Boca Grande! We were elated to be able to get, for the third year, our little slice of paradise, the house on Tarpon Avenue! We don't bother looking at other rentals, we know where we want to be! My boyfriend & I love our house on Tarpon Ave. I say our house because when we walk through that sea blue front door it feels like home but without the worries!
Lounging by the beautiful pool off the back deck, coffee in hand, was our favorite thing to do each morning! Or maybe it was driving the golf cart to the beach to watch the amazing sunsets! Or collecting seashells on the beach! Or maybe having a meal at one of our favorite island restaurants! Really we can't decide, to many choices.
We want to thank Susan (the owner) for being so helpful in answering all our questions & informing us of what's available to see and do, both on & off island. Also the online rental procedure was so easy & straightforward which I appreciate. We are already looking forward to next year when we can walk through the front door of our House on Tarpon Ave!
Thanks again Susan for providing us with a little slice of paradise.

Tarpon House was fantastic
Susan was a great host and the house was in the perfect location on the island.
No sprawling resorts of snowbird traffic jams, just privacy, gorgeous beaches, outstanding shops and excellent restaurants. Boca Grande, an exclusive island on the West Coast of Florida, is less than 75 minutes from the Sarasota and Fort Myers airports and two hours from the Tampa airport. It is north of Captiva and Sanibel Islands. Like Key West without the crowds. Not even one traffic signal. Charming house in historic district with beautiful new pool. Artists' community, walking, bike paths, shelling on white sand beaches, tennis and workout room close by, as are boat rentals, shrimp and stone crap boat docks and tarpon and snook fishing. Boat dockage and trailer space available.
Other Activities: Shopping, Pilates, yoga, fascinating historic lighthouse documenting the history of Boca Grande.
