Staying at Villa Paolina was a very special experience. The house is beautiful. A place full of history and peace. The furniture, decorations, art work, fireplaces, floors, tiles are all crafted with care and beauty making this big villa a place where you can easily pass days contemplating or in good company. Umberto and his mother Gioia were helpful throughout and always responded with grace and courtesy to questions. Once we arrived the grounds keepers were very nice and helpful.
It can be a bit tricky to find. Umberto had offered to have the ground's keepers meet us at the highway exit, which would have been a good idea. But once you find the right drive way, it is actually very well-located between Rome and Florence, with many beautiful places to visit nearby.
The listing description was accurate, but the photos do not capture how beautiful this home is.
The property was clean and well-maintained. There were some insects but this is expected for the country.
I will certainly rent this home again. It was a great place to share with friends and family.
Located on top of a secluded private hill in the heart of Tuscany with wonderful panoramic views of the best Italian wine valleys.
The villa is situated at a height of 592m a.s.l. with 360° commanding view of the colourful surrounding valleys. The enchanting panorama includes also the medieval town of Cetona and the 1150m high mountain called 'Monte Cetona'.
The hill is located in the southern part of the province of Siena (which is approx. 90 km from the villa). Other famous and wonderful locations near the villa include Orvieto (55 km), Assisi (80 km), Pienza (40 km) and Montepulciano (30 km). The villa is 15 minutes walk from the town centre of Cetona.
At a walking distance from the villa you can also find Mount Cetona which is a perfect location for hiking within natural reserves and amazing views of the Tuscany landscapes. Just 20km from the villa there is the largest lake of the Italian peninsula called Lake Trasimeno. The Lake Trasimeno is surrounded by wonderful and typical towns, as well as by some beaches and there is the opportunity to rent boats to visit the 3 islands which are located in the centre of the lake. Within 30 km distance from Cetona there are other two wonderful lakes: Chiusi Lake and Montepulciano Lake. The villa is also surrounded by several natural reserves including (within 30km distance) the Riserva Naturale of Monte Rufeno, of Pietraporciana, of Montepulciano and the park of Colfiorito.
The area of Cetona is considered within the best locations for wine and food tasting. The unique and natural wine & food products can be tried in the several taverns and restaurants which are located within the towns and hills surrounding the villa.
Just 2 km from the villa, in the beautiful medieval town centre of Cetona, you can find restaurants, a museum, some bars and shops as well as a supermarket. The restaurants have local products, wines and are family-run businesses where you can taste the best of home-made Italian food.
