About Heather and Gary Priestley
This is one of our three holiday rentals, the other being Crooks Peak Cottage and Polperro House which is a very large Victorian House (sleeps 10) overlooking the sea, located in a historic, smuggling and old Pirate Harbour of Polperro in South East Cornwall. Telephone 01934824823. 07886860420. 07735363532. Mendips view has been built to a higher standard than present day building regulations require, the walls, floors and ceiling are packed with the highest quality insulation to keep the occupants comfortable and cosy whilst sat enjoying the two totally different views. Heather and Gary have known each other since our school days, finally getting together at the end of the 20th Century. We moved to this area in July 2002 where we were very lucky to purchase Hamwood Park originally a 15th Century Storage Barn for seasoning (drying) cut timber. It was converted in about 1980 but not to the standard that we have been bringing it to, WE-Gary and Heather, have physically put on the new roof amongst many other restorations. Mendips View was converted from a freezing cold single story building into the fantastic cosy cottage that we now offer for others to come and enjoy the very clean air (you will sleep soundly) along with the stunning countryside of the West Mendip Way, excellent for walkers. We both work (Gary an Airline Pilot, Heather, a Civil Servant) whilst maintaining the up keep of our small holding and enjoy the variety of the many holiday makers that come and stay, many returning several times throughout the year.
Heather and Gary Priestley purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Heather and Gary Priestley chose Loxton
We as owners are close by to help you enjoy your holiday but also to leave you alone to relax. We encourage you to really appreciate the location by feeding our ducks and chicks if you wish or bounce on the trampoline. One of our visitors actually returned early from a day out as they wanted to come home! We love our home and enjoy others enjoying it, leaving you to relax or assisting you with planning your days out if you wish. LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE PER PERSON OF BUTLINS AND FAR SUPERIOR
What makes this Cottage unique
As soon as we drove up our secluded farm lane, parked next to the Dutch Barn looking at the house our stomachs were both knotted. We were blown away by the enormity of this handsome place whose lounge is bigger than the footprint of our 1930 house that we moved from. We still drive up our lane in disbelief. Gary still thinks of only being the caretaker not the owner! The air was sampled before we moved here and is of a very high quality amongst the total quietness of the countryside. It is located within easy access to many of the local interests whilst being simple to access due to being out of the rat race traffic. If you like street lights, noise of people returning from the pub etc, this is not the place for you. If you like peace and quiet and want to return home refreshed and relaxed then a stay is highly recommended. Many of our short break visitors visitors come back for a full break.

Perfect location, Perfect cottage
Ideally suited as a base for the Mendip area. Very high standard of accommodation with lovely grounds and fabulous views.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage.
Ideally located in the farming countryside.
We spent three weeks at the farm that was ideally located for our family visits. The host Gary was fantastic, ever helpful to advise on places to visit and how to get there. The facilities were excellent with all the amenities you would expect at home! An added bonus was access to the local gym and swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed the the rural experience, quite different from San Francisco in California!
Thanks Gary and Heather for an unforgettable experience!
We enjoyed our stay with you, we did find it difficult find particularly in the dark. Track up to the cottage would be difficult for some cars. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. Scenery was wonderful.
We are really pleased that you enjoyed your short break with us and found it in the dark.
Gary has 2 rare Classic cars, one of which is lower than a Lamborghini/Ferrari have no problems with the lane along with Heathers low VW Beetle which is on Audi TT chassis.
The scenery is always enjoyed and we feel privileged to be able to share it.
Relaxing short break
Great little hideaway in the Mendips. Last minute short break. Gary and Heather were very accommodating, great communication. The cottage is beautiful, much bigger than we expected. Clean accommodation and everything we needed was available. For us the bed was a bit hard, but didn’t detract from our enjoyment of our stay. Really close to the sea and cheddar gorge, perfect location. Thanks so much for your hospitality.
This was a last minute decision to visit Somerset and mendip cottage stood out from the others available. We were not disappointed, beautifully proportioned with delightful views from every window. Lovely to have Gary and Heather there to greet us and to be close if needed, very friendly hosts. The weather was mixed but mendip cottage was well equipped for wet weather gear and nice and warm to return to after a day exploring. It's location was central to country and coast plenty to see and do. We really didn't have the opportunity to make the most of the accomodation in the short time we were there, it definitely warrants a longer vacation, I wish it had a been available when our children where younger they would have loved the all the animals and outside space to explore. I would definatey reccommend this cottage to friends and family.
We are pleased you enjoyed your short break and the weather did not spoil your visit.
We look forward to meeting you again.
Brilliant relaxing and enjoyable
A lovely, homely cottage. Very warm and in a fantastic situation. Everything is there to enable you to enjoy your stay. The only negative, and it may not be a negative to others, was the double bed was somewhat hard. But others may appreciate the firmness.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your Christmas stay.
The Kingsize bed has a quality, handmade mattress that was suggested best suited for most people. We hope this did not cause too restless a night?
