Stunning Cottage Offering Comfortable Accommodation and Excellent Facilities

Our former 15th century Farm barn has had a super traditional semi-detached Eco-friendly (Solar panels, thick modern insulation, rain water, reclaimed timber and stone dug up from our ground) holiday cottage added to offer comfortable accommodation and excellent facilities. Included in the stay is the use of the Webbington Hotel Spa/Gym for you to enjoy-one free entry for each weekly stay.

Close to Weston Super Mare but located in beautiful countryside.

Thoughtfully and tastefully designed throughout, Mendips view combines wooden floors, wooden doors, beams and a wood burner, with a warm welcoming sitting room, dining area, stylish kitchen, downstairs cloakroom. spacious bedrooms, a luxurious bathroom and en-suite shower room. All rooms have amazing views of the Mendips, surrounding countryside or neighbouring fields; perfect for spotting buzzards, owls, deer, rabbits, badgers and foxes. Listen to the sound of song birds rarely heard in the cities. We have not used a wide angle lens to make the property bigger but instead taken more photos to allow you to get a true image.

A private but open garden and patio to the south side of Mendips View is ideal for relaxing or watching magnificent sunsets with a cold glass of wine in hand. If you have a dog, they are welcome to join you, dog lead ties are provided in the surrounding walls.

The accommodation includes Lounge with wood burner, TV, DVD, books and DVD's. A few board games are also available to use. The local Ordanance Survey map and local interests are provided. The kitchen comes fully fitted with fridge/freezer, microwave, electric oven and gas hob, washing machine and dishwasher. Cleaning materials and a welcome of tea/coffee and home-made cakes are provided. All dishes, cooking utensils, glasses and other home comforts are present.

The bedroom with the ensuite has a king size bed and all bedding is provided along with thick luxurious towels. The second bedroom has two single beds, again bed linen is provided.

Groceries can be ordered through Tesco or Sainsburys and delivered, electricity and gas usage is included as is access to wireless broadband. Dried and seasoned wood can be purchased from the owner which has been cut by our boys.

The water used for showering and bathing is collected from rainwater.

A security refundable deposit is required and if bringing a dog a £25 surcharge. Please note no smoking in the property/entrances of the property allowed.

There is a short stay supplement for stays of less than a week. This is to help towards the extra cleaning etc as the weekly cost is worked out with the assumption of 52 washes and cleans per year

About Heather and Gary Priestley

This is one of our three holiday rentals, the other being Crooks Peak Cottage and Polperro House which is a very large Victorian House (sleeps 10) overlooking the sea, located in a historic, smuggling and old Pirate Harbour of South East Cornwall.

Mendips view has been built to a higher standard than present day building regulations require, the walls, floors and ceiling are packed with the highest quality insulation to keep the occupants comfortable and cosy whilst sat enjoying the two totally different views.

Heather and Gary have known each other since our school days, finally getting together at the end of the 20th Century.

We moved to this area in July 2002 where we were very lucky to purchase Hamwood Park originally a 15th Century Storage Barn for seasoning (drying) cut timber. It was converted approximately 28 years ago but not to the standard that we have been bringing it to, WE-Gary and Heather, have physically put on the new roof amongst many other restorations.

Mendips View was converted from a freezing cold single story building into the fantastic cosy cottage that we now offer for others to come and enjoy the very clean air (you will sleep soundly) along with the stunning countryside of the West Mendip Way, excellent for walkers.

We both work (Gary an Airline Pilot, Heather, a Civil Servant) whilst maintaining the up keep of our small holding and enjoy the variety of the many holiday makers that come and stay, many returning several times throughout the year.

We encourage you to really appreciate the location by feeding our ducks and chicks if you wish or bounce on the trampoline. One of our visitors actually returned early from a day out as they wanted to come home! We love our home and enjoy others enjoying it, leaving you to relax or assisting you with planning your days out if you wish.

What makes this cottage unique

As soon as we drove up our secluded farm lane, parked next to the Dutch Barn looking at the house our stomachs were both knotted.

We were blown away by the enormity of this handsome place whose lounge is bigger than the footprint of our 1930 house that we moved from. We still drive up our lane in disbelief. Gary still thinks of only being the caretaker not the owner!

The air was sampled before we moved here and is of a very high quality amongst the total quietness of the countryside.

It is located within easy access to many of the local interests whilst being simple to access due to being out of the rat race traffic.

If you like street lights, noise of people returning from the pub etc, this is not the place for you. If you like peace and quiet and want to return home refreshed and relaxed then a stay is highly recommended. Many of our short break visitors visitors come back for a full break.

Our second visit, the same time as last year. Once again we`ve had a fantastic time revisiting Cheddar Gorge + replenishing our cheese stock! A visit to Wells Cathedral is a must along with the shops & Saturday market.

To experience good fish and chips, visit Papas in Weston-S-Mare. They are also licensed.

If you like Italian food, go to Michael Angelos, top class restaurant at the sea front in Weston.

Cosy, comfortable, clean, relaxing & great value

Cosy, clean and comfortable cottage. We were 2 couples, the cottage had everything we needed and we had a lovely relaxing stay. Gary was very friendly, helpful & made good recommendations of places to visit. We enjoyed visiting the area around the Gorge, walking along the sea front while the sun was seting at Western Super Mare and a lovely walk from the front door of the cottage to admire the views. It's a beautiful area with so many places to visit, we will have to return. Wish we could of stayed longer. Thank you

Fantastic

A lovely little getaway with rolling fields where you can walk dogs until your hearts content.

The property is very well maintained, cleaned to a very high standard and is lovely and cosy, everything is catered for. Very relaxing and peaceful surroundings. Gary is very knowledgable and will tell you all about the history of the area - fascinating. Relax and enjoy. Can't wait to go back again.

Lovely property and very peaceful

Fantastic little cottage converted to a very high specification by the owners. Very central for exploring Somerset and the surround and very tranquil and peaceful out in the countryside. Our dog loved playing with the owners dogs and running around the surrounding fields and our children loved seeing all the animals.

Beautiful cottage

What a delightful cottage!! From the moment we got there, the impression given of Gary and Heather was very friendly. We had a long journey and there were munchies to eat on. Our daughter still misses the ducks that roamed around in a pack together with the chickens. Peaceful settings whilst not far from Weston Supermare. I would recommend staying - clean and beautiful cottage, great location and peaceful setting!!

Relaxing and peaceful

Fantastic location in the middle of 'nowhere' but easy to get to main roads for various areas. Very comfortable and homely. originally booked for long weekend but decided to stay couple of extra nights. So peaceful and relaxing. Would thoroughly recommend to everyone. We were 2 couples but would also ideally suit a family with 2 children. We especially loved the ducks welcoming us every time we opened the back door.

Comfortable/quiet/clean/well equiped.

second visit and it was clean and comfortable.Central location for visits to W-S-Mare,Cheddar,Wells,Glastonbury and Bristol.Owners always friendly and helpful. Our dog thinks it is in heaven with the adjoining big field !!

Situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with doorstep access to 40 acres of fantastic countryside but only minutes away from the golden sands and town of Weston Super Mare. Mendips View holiday cottage is in the extensive grounds of our family home where we have ducks and chickens that welcome you to feed them. Storage for bikes, golf equipment and stabling for horses is available, as is ample parking. We are also pet friendly. Our property has been described as 'like looking at a picture out of each window'.

Close by are excellent country pubs, most of them pet friendly include more fantastic views of the area. Local attractions include the world famous Cheddar Caves, Wookey hole caves, Charterhouse, site of the Stone age Tin Mines, Stonehenge, SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge built by the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. You also have the fantastic Heritage city of Bath, being famous for its healing water and many well preserved Roman buildings, Wells famous for its stunning Cathedral and Bishops Palace, Bristol famous for its History of Maritime and the Slave Trade.

Travel south and explore Exmoor national park or Dartmoor national park or closer still, the Mendips Hills, which has the West Mendip Way which was featured on Countryfile BBC nature programme, that runs behind our property.

As we are so centrally located in the South West of England, why not explore for the day, and try the coastline of Lyme Regis, Seaton, Beer, Brixham in South Devon or even Dorset, searching for fossils on the Jurrasic (Dinosaur) coast or just taking in the sights. Another short time takes you into Cornwall, with many sandy beaches with their own micro climates, historic sites of tin mining and excellent surfing on patrolled life guarded beaches and of course the traditional Cornish Pasty. Come closer to home to sample Medieval not restored sites at Tyntesfield National Trust in Wraxall or Dunster Castle. Also nearby is Caldicot Castle to which runs Medieval Banquets open to the public.

Shopping is covered by the huge Bristol Malls, Cribbs Causeway and Cabot Circus and the Designer outlet centre of Clarkes Village in Street and the Swindon designer outlet. Another option is to shop in Cardiff, Wales within the walls of Historic Cardiff Castle. Hop on the train at Worle, Weston Super Mare to Bath, London, Glouceter and Cheltenham.

For those seeking adventure, try cycling, walking, skiing or sledging at Churchill Dry slope or Gloucester Dry slope centres, climbing in Cheddar Gorge, caving, horse riding, sailing at Axbridge Lake, jet skiing, coarse fishing at the many local lakes and rivers. sea fishing from Weston Super Mare Pier or from the Victorian Pier in the Victorian town of Clevedon, which has appeared in many films including, The Remains of the Day with Anthony Hopkins and recently Keira Knightly in Never Let Me Go. Finally for golf which you can arrange through local providers. With golf, we are spoilt with the huge choice of excellent 18 hole golf courses, Isle of Wedmore a ten minute drive, Burnham and Berrow being our coastal most challenging county venue. Race courses include Taunton, Chepstow, Exeter and Cheltenham all within easy travelling distance. There are a few local `Farmers airstrips` and airfields of Dunkeswell for those wanting to Aviate, with Bristol Airport being 9 miles away. We have a safe, excellent amount of acreage with an easy approach zone for those wanting to arrive by helicopter with safe secluded parking.

For culture, Bristol Hippodrome, The Colston Hall, The Weston Playhouse and The Brewhouse theatre all provide live shows or music offering a huge variety of different events to suit all tastes. Then why not dine out at one of the Michelin star restaurants?

For the children, nearby is Bristol Zoo, Noahs Ark Animal park, Court Farm, Puxton Park, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust, Longleat Safari Park, Center Parcs and Crealy adventure, Woodland Adventure park to name but a few great days out. Go less than two hours, and you could go to Legoland near Windsor Castle or hit the sights of London, fully taking in all the history of Royalty and The Beefeater Guards.

Of course, there is relaxation! With the local stunning views to enjoy in the peace and quiet of our Country Cottages and possibly a massage at the local spa just down the hill from us at the Webbington Hotel. One final option to share with you is a helicopter flight with the owner so that you can view the stunning surrounding area from the skies. This of course would be at an additional cost if you are interested. We hope to hear from you and hope that you come and share our lovely location with us soon.

This property is twinned with Crook Peak, our other holiday home situated on our four acre site. Both properties are listed on this website and can be booked individually or together for a larger group.

Once the property is booked, it becomes the responsibility of the person/s renting to pay the final payment 6 weeks prior to arrival.
FINAL PAYMENT Once the Deposit is received, the applicants are liable for the payment of the balance of the rental cost, plus any additional charges just short of six weeks before the arrival date. The balance due by date will be slightly before the strict 6 week due by date - this is to ensure the balance payment has been honoured by the 6 week period. Non payment by the due date will be treated as cancellation and the Property Managers may re-let the property without reference to the applicants, who remain liable for payment of the full amount: although credit will be given for any rents received as a result of re-letting, less the Property Managers expenses. The Property Managers may not send reminders - the balance due date is the responsibility of the persons/s booking the property. Balances are to be paid by and any fees attracted to be paid by the person/s making the bookings.
CANCELLATION If for any reason the dates booked are to be cancelled, it is the sole responsibility of the person/s who booked, to notify the Property Manager/s at the earliest convenience but it will still be the sole responsibility of the person/s who booked the property to pay the final payment prior to 6 weeks to the arrival date. Upon receipt that the person/s wish to cancel, the Property Managers may wish to re advertise the property to gain a full weeks rental income. Guests will still be responsible for the full amount if they cancel.

Whole property is fully set up for holiday renting including all things you will need for the stay including iron, ironing board, bedlinen, towels, cleaning materials. We will welcome you and chat about the property and the surrounding area that you are free to roam and wander at your leisure. Then we will leave you to enjoy your stay that starts with a welcome cuppa and homemade cake. Any problems/questions when you stay can be quicky resolved as we are on site.
