Oak cottage is a very romantic cottage with stunning rural views. The cottage was converted from an old barn and has exposed wooden beams and brickwork.
Downstairs there is a very spacious lounge with solid wood floor and two very comfortable sofas, TV and DVD. One wall in the lounge is completely glazed with double doors opening on to the south facing patio, so it is very light.
The lounge is open plan with a chalet style fixed dining table which follow through to the kitchen, The kitchen has a twin induction hob, a full integrated fan oven and grill, a microwave plus all the utensils you need.
Upstairs the cottage has two very romantic bedrooms, the large main bedroom has exposed beams through out and a panoramic floor to ceiling window providing far reaching views across open countryside and the lake. The bedroom has mahogany dressing table and an en suite dressing room.
The second bedroom is accessed via the main bedroom and also has exposed beams plus garden views
Located within the private Landews estate we have two well appointed picturesque country cottages with fantastic high quality fittings and facilities. Set in the beautiful village of Challock in central Kent, our location provides an ideal base for enjoying Kent's attractions and countryside. Also conveniently located for day trips to London (via the high speed train from Ashford to St Pancras in 38 minutes) or to France via Le Shuttle or the Ferries.
Surrounded by open fields and woodland which are alive with wildlife (you will see more pheasants, rabbits, woodpeckers and partridge than you will cars).
Hop cottage has its own private garden with large lawns and country cottage flower beds, a gas BBQ and patio table and chairs provide idyllic al fresco dining. From the private garden guests can access the natural swimming lake to enjoy a fresh water dip surrounded by reeds, bull rushes and water lillies with the swallows and dragon flies in the air above, and our family of moor hens for company. With many bridleways and footpaths to explore you can unwind and relax in one of the most idyllic unspoilt spots in Kent.
Hop cottage is named after the estates heritage as a former Hop farm and has wooden cladding outside and a Kent peg tile roof.
Oak cottage is constructed from the timbers of an old Oak framed barn. Oak cottage has two private terraces and access to the swimming lake and communal grounds.
The Landews Estate provides an ideal location for a lazy or an active holiday, relax around the lake on loungers, or explore all that the 'Garden of England' has to offer. Brogdale Farm which is home of the national fruit collection is only 5 miles away. On your doorstep at Landews you can go walking, bird watching, mountain biking, horse riding, gliding or walk to Beech Court Gardens and Tea Rooms.
All of Kents other attractions are within easy reach from our central location, one of our favorites is the RH&D Light Railway, a miniature steam railway that runs across Romney marsh from Hythe to Dungeness, great fun for little kids and big kids. Alternatively, Port Lympne and Howlett's Wild Animal Parks provide a great day out for the whole family. No visit to Kent would be complete without a day in Canterbury visiting the Cathedral or doing the ghost tour and a trip to Leeds Castle.
A walk along the White cliffs of Dover followed by a trip to Dover castle provide an excellent day out with two of Kent's iconic landmarks.
However you spend your days what better way to end it than enjoying a BBQ beside the natural swimming lake or having a relaxing dip where all you can hear is bird song.
The cottage provides all the charm of a past era combined with spacious modern facilities in what we believe is one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Nigel and Wendy grew up in Kent and have always had an interest in travel and tourism. Having traveled extensively we know what makes a property and a holiday special and we have tried to provide that in our properties. Wendy has an eye for detail and cleanliness so you can be assured the cottages are well maintained and clean.
Nigel and Wendy Griffiths purchased this cottage in 2012
We moved back to Kent in 2012 after 20 years away and after viewing many properties we fell in love with Landews the moment we saw it. Properties in locations like this come up very rarely so we had to fight off two existing buyers and complete in 1 month to secure this as our home.
Landews enjoys a beautiful rural location, surrounded by fields and woodlands. It was built as an ECO property in 1978 mainly over 1 floor so it maintains a very low key cottage feel from all angles. The village of Challock is pretty with very friendly locals, a lovely green and two good pubs. It's central location allow you to get anywhere in Kent in around half an hour.
Landlords are expecially helpful in making the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The swimming lake is especially fun and was a real highlight of the stay - rain or shine! We will definitely be staying again
As last year, we are spent a pleasant trip in your cottage.
Sincerely, we like this cottage near Ashford International
We stayed with two little kids, 4 and 6 years old, in cosy Hop Cottage with nice and and helpful owners. . The loacation is ideal for family holidays.
The cottage is furnished simply , but fittingly to the style of the cottage, with all you need.
Very quiet and relaxing, wonderful swimming lake, unfortunately we could not use it as temperatures were a bit too cold.
Central point for lots of things to do , half an hour to Kent Coast or a bit more than half an hour to Central London from Ashford by high-speed train.
We would always visit again.
This wonderful cottage was an excellent place to relax and repower myself. A great family vacation spot, going back into the nature with swimming possibliites and enjoy a quiet small farm(really quiet). This was just without any complications. Super easy, we came and went and really had seen wonderful sightseeing places, no stress. I wish we had more time it was a piece of heaven, just pur enjoyment. Thank you Nigel and Wendy what a wonderful home you have, thank you for sharing it.
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. We stayed in oak cottage which had plenty of room for 2 of us (sleeps upto 4) the features in our cottage where wonderful as were the views outside from each of the rooms. It was so peaceful even though we were on a working farm the animals wasn't noisey as you may think (city girl 😉). We had a lovely warm welcome from owner Wendy & waved to Nigel (working on his tractor) also we met & chatted to their lovely daughter who was hopefully moving to London for work so good luck & hoped everything worked out for you in the end. I'm not sure if I want everyone to know about this gem of a place as I want to keep it for myself but it's too nice to keep a secret👍🏻. If you get the chance & you want peace & quiet take a visit I promise you will love the tranquility. 👌
I had been hoping for a very special atmosphere in the cottage and all my expectations were met. The charms of the building with its old oak beams and the windows down to the floor plus views into the green were great won me over within minutes.
The cottage was clean, everything worked fine. It was fully equipped with everything I needed for cooking and enjoying the holiday. I was nicely introduced into the features and could even get some of the farm produce.
I would definitely recommend this property! If you have a car, loads of attractions are nearby (Canterbury, Leeds Castle etc.) and the host provides a book full of ideas how to have fun with precise descriptions.
What I liked most was the chance to relax and unwind in this lovely house. It's very quiet and idyllic with fields nearby and an unbeatably romantic little lake with birds and waterlilys.
Highly recommendable - but on second thoughts I would like to keep it for myself - I am trying to persuade my friends who want to go to Canterbury in a hotel next May to come to hop or oak cottage. I will try very hard.
Nigel and Wendy, thank you for everything,
All the best, Heide Althaus
Challock is centrally located between Canterbury, Ashford and Faversham and is one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas of mid Kent. The village is surrounded on all sides by woodland with 'Kings Wood' to the East and Longbeech wood to the west. Chaucer's famous Pilgrims Way and the North Downs Way are just to the south of the village and can be accessed on foot with the adventurous being able to follow this to Canterbury. The village of Wye with it's chalk crown and the 'Devils Kneading Trough' are 4 miles away. Eastwell Manor is just one of a number of first class restaurants offering fine dining on your doorstep.
Challock's location in the heart of Kent provides an ideal base for exploring all of the Garden of England's attractions, including Leeds castle ' The loveliest castle in the world' , Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle, The Hop Farm family park, The historic Dock Yards Chatham, the cinque port towns, Port Lympne or Howlett's Wild Animal Parks , The rare breeds centre, Hever castle or the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.
There is plenty for all the family to do an see within a very short drive, The UK's oldest brewery, Shepherd Neame in Faversham provides brewery tours with tastings, or the Designer outlet village in Ashford provides a shoppers paradise.
The village of Challock has two pubs, one serving excellent food 7 days a week, the other being a very traditional ale house, the barn shop is stocked with fine local produce, a horse riding school, the Kent Gliding club and the Beech Court Gardens & Tea rooms, plus it holds an annual goose fair on the green in September. Charing race course is only a few miles away with regular point to point meetings
