About Joan Freeland McGowan

The house has been in the Freeland Family for almost 60 years. Now the three sisters (Carole, Joan, Susan) own it and provide loving care.

Joan Freeland McGowan purchased this house in 1957

Why Joan Freeland McGowan chose White Mountains

The house is charming both inside and out. Built during the Civil War, the original house was tiny. Over the years other rooms were added, including a second floor bathroom. A barn and picket fence were added then later removed.

What makes this house unique

The front porch has an uninterrupted, sweeping mountain view. The area is peaceful and abounds with birds and wildlife. The home remains a quiet, comfortable get-away for those who want to relax. The nights are dark and, on a clear night, the sky is flooded with stars and you can see an occasional spacecraft, shooting stars and the Milky Way!

Charming home with fabulous views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our weeks stay at Freeland Acres. The house had all the comforts of home, was clean and well-appointed. The pictures were actually a great representation of the actual house. We enjoyed our time on the front porch watching the constant changes over the mountains. We saw shooting stars and a full moon came over on our last night-what a treat! Enjoyed exploring the area and would love to come back in the future!

I was taken aback . The place was so picturesque imaginative and so well taken care of .

  • 5 of 5

Priceless Gem ,

The house is the best it is far better then any hotel or lodge . The house is precious and is fitted for a perfect family environment .It is cozy and cheery open and spacious. It leaves much room for the imagination and to just reflect and be with ones thoughts imagination and feelings ......

The yard is spacious and roomy everything is well kept and clean sort of like you can't believe it is so nice ..

The week i was there was perfect weather .The night is so quiet and the stars are magnificent .

I love this place i fell in love with it as soon as entered upon the property and it only got better with each moment ..

New England hiking is New England hiking ..That being what it is is the reason why! who would think to have such an added bonus as the beauty and serenity of Freeland Acres !

The house is so situated that being in the area one has access with little travel by car to all that the Presidential and White Mountain ranges have to offer ..... With the absolute luxury and serenity of having ones private place ...

The area is so so nice so chilled and laid back the glider planes and the Franconia inn with the pony in front . From house to trail head of Mount Kinsman Trail is less then 5 minutes by car ...

The house is magic it is like a page out of a book from a forgotten time and place frozen in time .It is just perfect for reading and reflection..Or to get some quite space to practice music. The place is so so quiet ...

As places go this is got to be the best place i ever stayed at based on the size and presentation of the house especially the cleanliness factor ,the price as comparative to other places .. The area is the best with so much to offer for poets writers musicians athletes horse back riders scientists astronomers it's all perfect it's the perfect spot for telescoping birdwatching hiking skiing reflecting romancing it's got it all ...

After my stay at Freeland Acres i have nothing but a desire to return for a longer stay ..........

I do hope to get to return and experience all that the area has to offer within moments from Freeland Acres .. It's so nice one can just spent all there time there at Freehand Acres and be perfectly fulfilled that in itself would be just fine .......

I,m so thankful to have found and spent a week at freehand acres .........

Great

  • 5 of 5

Everything in the house was clean, functional and operational. Plenty of pots for cooking. Big Webber charcoal gril outside. Spot very quiet with amazing front view on a mountain. Within one hour max of distance from most peaks you may want to climb. Very very relaxing. Would return anytime. Kids loved it too.

Charming

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our NH getaway at this charming cottage. Sometimes

photos can be deceiving, not for this house. It was as pretty as the photos suggested! The views were spectacular, the house very

comfortable and the cool August temperature appreciated by our

family! Not knowing much about the area we really enjoyed your book of things to do! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!!

A Lovely Place to Be!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, we knew it would be a fun and relaxing week. There was a spirit of welcome in the home itself, which was really clean and very well maintained. One of our favorite things was the piano! Every day of our stay we each took turns playing, me not so much since I'm not a pianist. We spent hours on the porch and in the yard playing games, reading and just soaking in the views and listening to the birds. The owners were so wonderful and welcoming with phone calls and emails. They also had lots of suggestions for things to do like discovering the swimming hole nearby and a not to distant hike to a waterfall. We are a family of 5, all grown up, and we all loved our stay. Many thanks! I recommend it.
