In high season, we are a Sunday to Sunday rental
The house was built by my parents in the early 80's. We did a lot of work ourselves. To give you an idea of my Dad's personality, the underside of the house is braced above code to withstand the winds of Hurricanes. I never fear that our house will blow away!
My parents have both passed away and my sister and I manage the property. We have made several improvements including replacing shag carpet with laminate, wood paneling with dry wall and a more functional kitchen. We have tried to create a family friendly place, but remain true to our parents vision of a beach house.
It is also important to note that I do not live at the beach and I am not able to check things every day. We appreciate renters who notify us when things are not working correctly. We do have a cleaning lady and maintenance man on call, but it still can take 24 hours for them to respond.
The house is a special place for us and our families full of memories.
Demetra Heckman purchased this house in 1980
What really made our stay special was the incredible thoughtfulness of the owners to be sure we had everything we needed to make our Duck visit a real vacation.
We spent three days here in early November. The house has a very nice great room and well-equipped newly remodeled kitchen with dining table. A perfect place for a quiet get-away. We would book again on an Outer Banks stay.
We rented this beautiful home for 3 days as the destination for our vacation coming from Michigan. This house was perfect for us. We were traveling with another couple and one of them is in a wheelchair. There was a ramp up to the front door which made it easy to get her into and out of the house. This was very centrally located for all of the exploring we planned on doing. The weather was great for Sunday and Monday while we were there. But starting Monday night the remnants of TS Julia started dumping rain on the area. So Tuesday was indoor exploring we went down to Roanoke Island to the aquarium there. One small problem that came up was that with the rain the ramp gets a little slippery. I fell one time taking the wheelchair down the ramp to load her into the van on one of our explorations. Luckily it was towards the bottom of the ramp so nobody was hurt. We would rent this hose again if in the area.
Stayed for 5 nights in May 2016. The owner Demetra was helpful and responsive throughout the booking process and during our stay.
The house is well-equipped and spacious, and a short easy walk from the beach in Duck, The street itself is quiet and great if you want to get away from the crowds.
A great base to explore the beautiful Outer Banks!
We had a great time! The beds were comfy, and so was the couch. We spent some of the evenings on the screened in porch which was nice. The only I wished for more was a pool.
