We are often asked about cell coverage. Here is a response to a recent question.
'Thanks for the question. Our carrier is AT&T and about three years ago the coverage went down the tubes . Our cousin has Carolina west and here works just fine. I have heard rumor that Verizon works but I can't verify that. There is a standard landline that you can receive calls with or use a calling card to call out. There is also wifi for Skype or FaceTime or imessage There are pockets on the way to Spruce Pine and Newland where texts and Voicemails will come through. The bottom line is that it can be inconvenient but is no different at our cabin than anywhere else in the region. It is the nature of the topography. It is not something that we get complaints about. Don't hesitate if you have other questions.'
Such beauty, solitude, grace and natural splendor. My 2 weeks plus at Arbor Branch was relaxing, stress free with beauty surrounding from morning sunrise to the late evening stars that were so clear in the evening sky one felt that one could reach up and touch them. The cottage was very well maintained, well supplied, all was in working condition. I have already recommended Arbor Branch and hope to return myself next summer.
We were looking for a pet-friendly cabin away from the sight of others and we hit the jackpot! Secluded and only a 10 minute drive to the nearest Appalachian Trail (AT) access. All the Linville attractions are a 15 minute drive (leisurely country road drives). Walking distance (15 minutes) is a Brewery with excellent food too, BONUS! The cabin is well equipped & cozy, had everything we needed kitchen-wise, we used the stove & outdoor propane grill daily. The SAT-TV and internet worked great, my iPhone said "Wifi Phone" while in or near the cabin. AT&T cellular was spotty in the area (we went 1 hour in all directions) but somehow worked great on the AT around Yellow Mountain above 5000 feet. This area is perfect for families that want to hike, explore and be in nature, we brought our dog along on all the fun except for the Caverns tour and Sugar Mountain Ski day. Bring good quality hiking boots (Gortex-lined in winter), those in tennis-shoes were slipping as there are some cold, muddy spots on the trails. Owner was very accommodating and the entire family wants to make a return visit soon, thank you Ms Hall!
The cabin was cozy with antiques and modern day conveniences. We're private and would have liked curtains or blinds for windows at night. Overall a great time.
The cabin was great and very peaceful. We really enjoyed it. The only frustrating thing about our stay was on our last morning we were woke up by the lawn service company weed whacking around the house. About 8 a.m. we would have liked to enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee on the deck but were unable to. Besides that frustration no complaints!
We spent a long weekend here in late August and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The exterior is charming while the interior is comfortable with very nice antique accents. The bed was especially comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud. The cabin is fairly secluded, but you can still see the neighboring house if you look hard enough through the trees and brush. It's within walking distance of the local brewery and a short drive to other quaint towns (e.g. Linville), local wineries, and excellent hiking trails. Most of all, I think we enjoyed drinking our morning coffees on the front porch.
The only criticisms we might have is that it could have been a little bit cleaner and some of the window screens (not the window locks) did not secure completely. Nothing major.
Overall, it was a great experience and the owner was a pleasure to work with.
We had a wonderful stay at Arbor Branch! To start, the house was easy to find, had all of the amenities mentioned on the website, and was very comfortable and inviting.
The cabin was a typical mountain cabin, with about a 15 - 20 minute drive to town, which, in my opinion is not bad at all. There was a Walmart about 20 minutes away as well as a small coffee shop.
We went to the Apple Orchard at Alta Pass, also a 20 minute drive from the house, and enjoyed apple picking and shopping at the orchard shop. It was the highlight of our trip! We also drove a while on the blue ridge parkway and visited Linville Falls which was beautiful. We ate dinner (two nights in a row!) at Mountain View Restaurant and it was wonderful! That was also a quick 20 minute drive from the cabin.
We plan on making this a yearly tradition and would definitely recommend this quaint cabin to our friends and family.
Kate was a pleasure to deal with and was very kind to allow our three, yes three! Dogs into the home. We had originally paid for two dogs, but last minute we needed to bring our third dog. That was NO problem with Kate who was easy going considering it was so last minute.
The whole experience was a pleasure, the house was clean and the price was right! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
