Others use the Cottage as home base to enjoy the area's many attractions -- sports, hiking, five-star dining, antiquing, art, theater, and world-class music. Woodstock is just 3 minutes away by car.

Pete, Jack and I love all that our country house has to offer - great hikes, fresh air, seasonal changes, and lots of great culture in nearby Woodstock and the surrounding area. Pete's an artist and Marietta's a writer and we find endless inspiration just outside the door. Some of our favorite moments have been taking the short hike around our property, kicking around streams, climbing the rock quarry, sitting in the moss forest, collecting nature's treasures.
Marietta purchased this house in 1994
We were NYC people looking to move to the country and saw our Woodstock house as the ideal happy medium -- gorgeous setting, charming house with architectural history (Peter has a passion for old buildings), nearby culture and like-minded people, and only 2.5 hours from NYC. We're continually moved by the seasonal moments.
Quiet, serenity of nature with little else disturbing us. The sheer beauty of the surrounding pine forest with its grandeur and nuance. The proximity of world-class art, music, and dining just minutes to Woodstock, Saugerties, and Rhinebeck. The opportunity to entertain our friends and family in a beautiful, welcoming place. We always have a great time!
We can't thank you enough for the use of your magical house. We have had a wonderful winter that we will never forget. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
House had many nice features and many amenities like the grill and cabana. Property is set way back from the road and very quiet. Kitchen is well-equipped and designed well to accommodate 4-6 people. Well thought out instructions to handle most questions in advance. Nearby excellent restaurants include Red Onion and The Bear Cafe. Pick up provisions at the Meat Market in Woodstock. Hiking opportunities all around within 15 to 45 minute drive. Very enjoyable
Inside and out was exceptional. We really appreciated the small conveniences. We hiked, cooked and relaxed in many beautiful little areas.
A charming house that comfortably sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms. There is no AC and it was quite hot and humid when we were there. There are lots of fans, which help, but when it is really humid they are not enough. It's a bit in the woods, so quite buggy outside. Bring mosquito repellent.
The gas grill did not work (and there was a mouse living inside) and the owner did not return a phone call to tell us if there was another propane tank available.
The kitchen is very well equipped and there is pretty good shopping in town.
We would go back, but probably in cooler weather.
My husband and I stayed at this magical cottage for six weeks during the summer with our two children, 6 and 3, and our cat. We loved being hidden in the middle of the woods, hearing crickets, frogs and owls (yes, many owls!) every night, and enjoying the comfort of this cozy and classic Woodstock house. We will definitely come back next time we want to escape the busy city!
This Craftsman cottage had everything we were looking for in a long weekend getaway. First, the house is so charming and cozy. We just returned from a Memorial Day vacation but I can't wait to come back in the fall or winter to enjoy the fireplace and dark wood interior. I agree with at least one other reviewer, the pictures don't do it justice, particularly the living room, which is larger than we expected. Two couples with younger kids (two 12-year-olds and a 6-year-old) had plenty of room to cook, play cards, etc. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, and there were plenty of linens and towels for all.
Next, the surroundings are gorgeous. The house sits among giant trees and near a beautiful cliff. We took advantage of the surroundings, spending much of our time outdoors on the property and hiking nearby. The kids loved the plants, rocks and streams they discovered. Further, the house is in the perfect location for exploring Woodstock, including town center, swimming holes, art and more.
Finally, Marietta is a wonderful host. She communicated everything we needed for our arrival, made herself available throughout the stay, and was just a pleasure to deal with!
We've been coming to the Catskills every autumn for over a decade now, and this has been one of our favorite places to stay! Just a few of its strong points:
House: Filled to the rafters with charm; smells like antique wood; comfortable lodgings for the three of us (one room is small, and was perfect for our shorter friend); a spacious and sunny kitchen where we made roast chicken and a local-apple galette; a large, paved patio under the stars with a grill for the summer and a bricked-in fire pit for autumn-night s'mores (we took full advantage of this latter feature, with a couple bottles of pinot noir and some jazz on the hi-fi system).
Grounds: The foliage gods smiled on us this year: the third week of October brought reds, golds, and oranges so saturated that we didn't even need to use an Instagram filter. The extended property is also a fascinating stretch to explore—the adjacent rock quarry contains a few unlisted treasures, so bring your camera and sense of adventure.
Owner: Marietta made it very easy to come enjoy her home: clear instructions and house operations and open availability for our few questions. Very pleasant to speak with!
Location: Strikes that rare balance between peaceful, forested seclusion and nearness to everything: it barely took five minutes to drive into the heart of Woodstock (for our traditional candlelit dinner at Cucina).
Great rental property, and the perfect place to detox from life in the city (or anywhere else). Five stars.
Sitting on 88 acres of State preserved land and trails (Sloan Gorge Preserve) we are beautifully located to all Hudson Valley attractions -- hiking out our back door (and more!), 3 minutes to the Village Green in Woodstock, 20 minutes to skiing at Belleayre/Hunter, 5 minutes to swimming holes, KDM Tibetan Monastery, minutes to HITS horse activities, just 20 minutes from Omega Institute, 30 minutes to Rhinebeck and Hudson...just ask!
