About Shawn Robinette

We moved to Maine in 1997 from Seattle. We own a coffee shop/bakery in Southwest Harbor by the name of Milagro Coffee & Espresso.

Shawn Robinette purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Shawn Robinette chose Downeast and Acadia

The Acadia area of Maine is one of the prettiest areas in the country. Once you get here you will know immediately why we decided to settle here.

What makes this cottage unique

Staying at our unique beach cottage is like living on a houseboat but without the rocking motion. The cottage is built right on the beach. In fact at high tide the water comes all the way up to the seawall. Looking out across the bay is so peaceful and calming. The majority of our bookings at this cottage are from repeat customers.

Great Home Base

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Surry, ME at Watermark. The home was very peaceful and quiet, well maintained and perfectly appointed with nice furnishings and super comfy bed and linens. We didn't need anything while here. It was relaxing to watch the boats come and go, as well as the tide come in and out, and the seals swimming out front. Even the birds and the chipmunks were entertaining! Our concern about walking down a spiral staircase in the middle of the night (to use the restroom) turned out fine, we just kept a low light on downstairs and took our time. Watermark is well situated in the area, an easy drive to all points like MDI, Acadia Natl Park, small towns and eateries. Of course we took advantage of Perry's Lobster Shack within walking distance. Ate there as well as cooked our own on several occasions. Thank you for a wonderful week!

Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Watermark Cottage was absolutely wonderful! The well maintained exterior of the home and the inviting garden made a charming first impression. Stepping into the house and looking out on the water through the large dining room windows was even better than I imagined it would be! Pictures can't quite capture the connection you feel to the water while staying in this home. During our stay, our family of four saw seals, porpoise, a bald eagle, loons, ducks and herons...all through those windows or while sitting on the back porch. Our two teenage daughters comfortably shared the upstairs bedroom, while my husband and I claimed the downstairs bed. It was amazing to lay in bed at night with the windows open and hear the gentle rhythm of the waves and then wake up in the morning to see the sunrise over the bay. The house was clean and well stocked, the decorations were tasteful and the bed linens were comfortable. The little general store in Surry had a good enough selection to meet our quick needs and the grocery stores about 20 minutes away in Ellsworth had everything you'd expect. It was about 45 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Even though it was a bit of a drive, it was a nice feeling to get away from the hustle and bustle of the more congested areas and come back "home" at night. Our host, Shawn, was extremely nice and helpful and an excellent baker! I highly recommend this property and hope to return again to visit sometime in the future!

A Peaceful Refuge...

  • 5 of 5

The Watermark Cottage we cannot say enough about. From the moment you step out of your car and walk on the beautifully landscaped path of perennials to the door

while viewing the seascape running along the property you feel immediately a sense of...Ahhhh I am finally on vacation. Then you open the door of the home and you are greeted by a note and a bakery box of the most delicious homemade muffins ever from Milagro the owners bakery and coffee shop located in Southwest Harbor. You look around and you are standing in an open concept living space impeccably clean and decorated to perfection with direct views of the inlet and Acadia Nat Park. A spiral staircase takes you up to the master bedroom/loft or down to another living space with a bedroom and living room with views of the water and access through patio doors to the concrete seawall deck furnished with a picnic table and chairs...perfect to view the busy natural world of harbor seals, eagles, and many of other birds and fish. The cottage is the perfect launch off place to discover the wonders of Acadia Nat. Park. A short walk to Perry's Lobster Dock enables you to gorge on the freshest lobster right off the local fishing boats. We enjoyed the restaurants in Ellsworth. We also enjoyed a trip to Bar Harbor and saw the whales. We highly recommend Watermark Cottage for a relaxing vacation retreat and hope to return again in the near future. Brian and Diane McMahon, New Jersey.

Great views, nice amenities. Kayaking out the back door goes a long way with us. Nice off-street parking and front garden.

Beautiful Place To Stay

  • 5 of 5

The Watermark cottage in Surry Maine was a beautiful place to stay on the water. The cottage had everything you need and the setting was incredible. It was peaceful and a great place to just walk the beach or sit and watch the tides change. We enjoyed the early morning sunrises and looking at the stars late at night since the sky was so dark and clear. The Lobster Shack just down the road was a nice place to walk to and eat seafood on the pier. You could watch their boat going out early in the day to catch the lobster. The blueberry pie was very good. We also found fun hiking in Blue Hill...seeing wild blueberries growing and wonderful views. Nearby towns offered some good places to eat and Acadia park is not that far filled with hiking trails. The owners Shawn and Brian were great with communication and run a bakery coffee shop in the area which is worth a visit. Our family really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would highly recommend it to others.

Great House with difficult stairs

  • 4 of 5

The house had beautiful views and was very comfortable. Our only concern was that the only access between floors was circular staircases. They were difficult to use between floors in the night since the only bathroom was not on the floors with bedrooms. It was difficult to get suitcases upstairs with the circular staircases as well.

We loved watching the sun rise over the water.
