Exclusive 300 acre peninsula with private sand beaches. The fully maintained and renovated, mint condition 1933 cabin is spacious and has extensive beach, water and mountain views. We gifted 7500 acres of the property to the State of Maine for a natural land preserve that is part the State land reserve adjacent to Acadia National Park . We kept a 300 acre peninsula where now four cabins are located. The surrounding area is an undiscovered wilderness. The hiking is incredible with tremendous views of Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park. There are many remote lakes and ponds snuggled in the hills that provide total privacy. In addition, Acadia National Park is only a short drive away and can easily be visited for a day or afternoon.
Our lake and the other surrounding lakes, ponds, and mountains are VERY minimally developed if developed at all. Our peninsula has several private beaches within a couple minutes walking distance. Directly in front of the rental cabin is a 1000-foot soft sandy beach with beautiful swimming. The property is a private 300 acre peninsula with a mile long private gated driveway through some of the Maine's last stand of old growth Hemlocks that then splits off to each of the private rentals (see Homeaway #102873, #4017223, and #102874. There is a caretaker on call for emergencies and to maintain the safety and operation of the property for you. The lake and surrounding area have abundant loons and their haunting calls can be heard day and night. They are a daily visitor to our private cove along with duck families, turtles, and bald eagles. The lake is superb for swimming and is completely spring fed so the water is crystal clear, fresh, and enjoyable. The water temperatures are very comfortable during the summer months and our large private 250+ yard long beach offers a soft, clean (non-muck), sandy, gradual entrance into the water. We have a floating raft that is perfect to swim or paddle to and from as well as relax on while watching the schools of fish swim by. Our property is surrounded by a State of Maine land reserve that is an extension of Acadia National Park. There is fantastic hiking and exploring all within just a few minutes’ drive or walk. We offer for our guests 6 one-man kayaks, one two-man kayak, 4 kid kayaks, and a canoe to explore the lake, its remote beaches, the outlets, beaver dams, eagle nests, and fishing. The lake is 75+% undeveloped so you can explore and enjoy all of the completely secluded natural beaches and shores without worry.
The entire property requires basic physical abilities in nature. We do allow a dog with the understanding that it is not destructive to the property, allowed on furniture or overly burdensome to people that may be on the property. It is however a great place for a dog that loves the woods, water, beach and general free play.

About Andrew Pierce
The property and the surrounding area are very dear to me. We donated thousands of acres to the State of Maine for a Maine State Land Reserve which is now enjoyed and respected by enthusiastic visitors. We work hard to keep our remaining private peninsula pristine and in complete respect to the natural beauty of the area. I grew up in the Bangor and Downeast area and have a strong connection to the Acadia region.
Andrew Pierce purchased this Cabin in 1933
Why Andrew Pierce chose Cherryfield
Our property is surrounded by two proximal reserves: 2000+ acres east of Donnell Pond and 4500 acres northeast of Spring River Lake. The mountains and lakes formed by the Tunk Mountain Pluton constitute one of the most distinctive landmarks of the East Coastal Region. The two reserves include mid-elevation (~1,300 foot) summits of Tunk Mountain, Black Mountain, and Caribou Mountain as well as Tilden Pond, and Little Long Pond. web site: maine.gov/doc/nrimc/mnap/reservesys/tunklake.htm
What makes this Cabin unique
The State’s best private beach, cleanest water and swimming, fantastic views and sunsets, well maintained cabin and the very close proximity to the Maine coast and Acadia National Park. A perfect romantic get-a-way or a memorable family Maine woods, lake and coastal experience!

spring river lake cabin
i hesitate to write a review because i don't really want to share this best kept secret. totally idyllic. my kids cried when it was time to leave. gloriously unspoiled, unhurried, and chill. asked the owner to keep our deposit and booked immediately for next summer. love is not too strong a word for our time there.
Relaxation is yours, and here's where to learn it
Simply a beautiful location and excellent accommodations -- a beautiful strip of lakeside Maine property at the north edge of Acadia National Park.
My wife's family, her sister's family, and their 40-year-ago childhood friends (and parts of their respective families) enjoyed a fabulous week here in mid-July 2016. We actually rented all three of the cabins on this private cove on Spring River Lake, and we had that whole end of the lake to ourselves. And we had a ball.
The lake was a beautiful, clear-water, rough-sand beach setting, with plenty of "toys" available such as kayaks, canoes, a floaty raft, and beach chairs/umbrellas. On one day we all paddled over to the opposite end of the lake and played on the "jumping rock"; but on most days we just chilled and chatted and splashed in the gently sloping water in our own private cove! The drive to Acadia isn't much longer than the drive to the grocery store -- what a beautiful area of the country.
The cabins were well-designed and reasonably appointed. Some of the dishes/dinnerware could stand to be updated, but everything was clean and generally had everything we needed. The general feel was "rustic" more than "elegant" but this is exactly what we were after. The local hiking (esp. Tunk Mountain) was fabulous. This particular cabin was the most rustic (dark, and in need of remodel) of the three, but was extremely charming nonetheless.
The cabin owner was generous with contributing his 'local knowledge' of the lake, cabins, and surrounding community/history with us. Communication was flawless before, during, and after the rental and was in no way overbearing. Response time to phone calls or emails was always within 24 hours. The information binders provided at the cabins were well-written and helpful.
We did have a few problems with ants in one of the cabins, but we brought this up to the caretaker and he addressed it promptly and effectively. Also, while we were lucky to be enjoying all three cabins together this week, I imagine some of the pure bliss might have been lost if we didn't have the whole cove to ourselves. But the cabins are very nicely spaced, at least 100 yards apart, so I don't think this would have greatly diminished the charm of the site.
We had a great week at these lovely lakeside cabins, and will cherish the family/friend togetherness it fostered for years to come. We strongly recommend them to others.
It doesn't get better this
Time spent at Spring River Lake in Maine is unparalleled in our view.
We (family of 4) spent two absolutely glorious weeks relaxing in the most natural way possible. Fabulous beach w/ boat house (kayaks, canoes & more), temperate water for swimming all day, cool evenings perfectly suited for cozy fires, playing games, working on puzzles, baking bread and reading. If you appreciate the power of a simple setting (no screens or cell service) to inspire fun, deepen relationships, and refresh the soul, look no further.
Perfect Honeymoon Escape
After a hectic but wonderful time period of wedding preparation and celebrations, this was the perfect place to escape to and be alone with my bride. I have encountered few settings equally suited for relaxing. We spent the afternoons on the porch and the evenings by the fire. Bob the caretaker and Andrew the owner were friendly, flexible and professional. We plan on returning for an anniversary some day.
We rented in mid-October, thinking that we were taking a chance on bad weather. But we hit the peak of the foliage and had sunny skies and 60 degree temps most all week. And when it rained we either enjoyed our stay at the cabin or went shopping. The cabin and surrounding property was everything that was claimed and more. The whole experience exceeded my highest expectations.
Perfect and idyllic
My wife and I needed to get away from it all. And coming here was clearly the answer to the fast pace lives most of us live. We could have gone to Bar Harbor or any of the other popular spots in Maine but chose to stay at the lake the whole week. Gin clear water, old growth trees and what a Maine lake camp should be, this is clearly a place we will come back to. Simplistic beauty in the cabin and grounds but yet everything is supplied. Andrew does a great job of keeping the camp uncluttered and tastefully done. Our typical day was started with eating breakfast in front of the fire. Reading, kayaking, conversation, and just laying around the beach by the water. Cocktails along with a great grilled steak for dinner then ending the day watching the sunset.
Can't wait to return.

Relax on the porch and sunbathe on the beach. Refresh in crystal clear spring fed water. Enjoy a paddle around this preserved, undeveloped lake in provided kayaks or canoe. Hike on adjacent State Conservation Lands and explore the many remote lakes, ponds and mountains. This accessible retreat is the relaxed way to enjoy Acadia National Park and its surrounding one-of-a-kind wilderness. The property and the surrounding lakes have a long family history. We gifted most of the property to the State of Maine for a preserved land reserve. We kept the peninsula where the three cabins ( Homeaway #102873, 1#02874 and #4017223) are located. This Lake and the other surrounding lakes, ponds, and mountains are minimally developed if developed at all. Our peninsula has several private beaches within a couple minutes walking distance or kayak paddle. Directly in front of the rental cabin is a 1000-foot soft sandy beach with beautiful swimming. Each cabin sets on opposite ends of the beach allowing for considerable privacy. The cabin is fully furnished and decorated in cabin style, yet comfortable. it is very clean and well maintained with electricity and plumbing. It is heated by large field stone fireplace and kitchen wood stove. This one -bedroom cabin has a screened porch. The property is located in an unorganized township. Because of this the address location of Cherryfield is incorrect but needed for this ad. The location of the property is closest to Hancock Maine. These cabins and property are very dear to my family. We intend to keep them fairly private. There is a mile long dirt drive that is gated at the entrance. The gate is for added privacy and security. Other Activities: Lake, mountain, ocean, and woods activities.
