We live in Hickory and are avid skiers - so we use our home in the winter more than any other time. I am also in the furniture bus so the house is beautifully furnished
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
We have a business in downtown Blowing Rock and have so many friends in the area!
Spent our 20th anniversary there. Owners have it designer decorated, everything is provided. We brought our small dog along too. We really enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and it was used a lot since the weather was cold during part of our stay. It even snowed while we were there. The house is in a mountainous neighborhood located about four miles from town We would highly recommend this rental for a mountain getaway in Blowing Rock, NC.
We stayed in the Brown Bear Lodge for a weekend while visiting the area to take our son to Tweetsie Railroad. We often book cabins when we travel and this is one of the best so far. The cabin is beautiful inside and out. The neighborhood is charming, quiet and just a little bit off the beaten path, but not too far from town. Tweetsie was about a 10-15 minute drive, the town of Blowing Rock is closer. The homeowners are very friendly and accommodating. We hope to stay here again when we visit Blowing Rock. On a side note, I must mention the Foggy Rock restaurant in Blowing Rock. Their fried green tomato sliders are incredible and they have a pet patio complete with doggie bowls of water. The pizza we got from the Mellow Mushroom is one of the best we have ever had!
The Brown Bear Lodge is a comfy little get-a-way tucked away among the lush North Carolina dogwoods, furs and spruce trees on Misty Mountain. It faces Grandfather Mountain and is located just a short distance from Blowing Rock. You are greeted with warn chestnut colored hardwood floors and a solid rock fireplace. The lay out of this superbly decorated cabin is such that entertaining and dining are held on the main floor while the sleeping is done on the floor below. The kitchen has up to date appliances and all the necessities for you to cook and dine just like you are in your own home. The dining area has a large wooden table with high back "knights of the round table" chairs. The cabin provides other chairs in unique places for plenty of extra seating if you have guests. There are chaise lounge chairs and lap blankets conveniently situated around the fireplace for winter enjoyment. The media area has a large screen TV that is great for the guys to watch their football games on or for the girls to watch their chick-flicks on !! It is also well stocked with books for the avid reader. The deck spans the length of the home and has comfortable upholstered and iron furniture along with a large umbrella and a four seated table and grill. There is a large guest bathroom on the main floor. The soft bedding in the spacious (two) bedrooms along with the (full) bathrooms are well stocked with linens. Make sure to look for the secret little cove downstairs....an extra space for children to watch TV (and sleep)! A hammock outside the master bedroom is a secluded spot to take a nap or read a good book! Included in the downstairs is a small stacked washer and dryer.
The owners of the home were not only gracious in the way that they handled my special requests (we had a family reunion in the area) but were incredibly generous in every manner in which they interacted with me. This lovely retreat is a place that my family built precious memories that we are forever grateful for. We hope to return again this winter.
We had a lovely stay at Brown Bear Lodge in July. The house is very clean with beautiful furnishings. We enjoyed relaxing and dining on the porch that has a wonderful view of the mountains. The neighborhood is quiet and we enjoyed walking to view the houses and overlooks in the area. It is located very near downtown Blowing Rock and the Charity Horse Show complex and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are plenty of hiking trails in the area. We especially enjoyed visiting Cone Manor and eating at the Gamekeeper. I would recommend this home and hope to visit again!!
