Appealingly, this very large house has an extremely relaxed environment for sizable groups of up to 35 guests. The kitchen and dining area are highly suitable for catered events and the yard is perfect for large functions to include weddings and special ceremonies. The wrap around porch dining area seats up to 55 people. This property is the perfect setting for any group outing or get-together. Open year-round, it's fully equipped with all the basics from pots and pans to sheets and towels. There are also added and attractive perks such as an enormous fireplace in the Great room, a large steam room, WiFi internet access, TV/DVD, sound system with CD player... Outdoor perks include canoes, kayak, windsurfer, picnic tables, a gas grill and more.
Down East Magazine quote: 'The house is operated like a self-service inn; it works like a hostel, albeit a deluxe one, or an inn with no innkeeper.'
EARLY CHECK-IN/LATE CHECK-OUT: We will negotiate an early check-in time and/or a late check-out time if there are no back-to-back groups with reservations.

We held our family reunion at The Maine Houses for a week during July 2014. We rented the Maine House and the Maine Farmhouse for our group of 40 - kids, parents and grandparents. The houses were perfect for our group with plenty of room. We loved the great room for evening get-togethers and the wrap around porch for our dinners. We enjoyed the lake front area for volleyball games, swimming and evening campfires. And the sunsets over the lake were gorgeous!! All agreed that the lake was a great size, the surrounding area offered wonderful hiking and biking and kayaking and canoeing on the lake were favorites along with that challenge of swimming to the island and back ... great fun!!! Would highly recommend The Maine Houses for relaxing vacations and fabulous family reunions.
Our group has greatly enjoyed our stay in the Maine Houses for our Christmas vacation trip. We had 33 people (including children, colledge students, and parents alike) together in the house. Every one of us has expressed his/her individual satisfaction of the stay at this house. The house provided us a lot of room for the numerous guests we came with. It also attracted some of youth and colledge students from our other group staying in the Mountain View House to come over to this house for evening activities. The great living room has wonderful fireplace which made it very warm and cozy! The kitchen is huge with a lot of good appliances, and we think that the three refrigerators, three dishwashers, and more then 35 seats at the dining room tables (which had a spectacular view of the frozen lake) was extremely accomidating.
Furthermore, the owner has been very helpful in responding to our needs. We would definitely like to return for any of our future Maine vacation trips.
Thank you Tim Salvesen from the North Star Family Group.
The only thing I can figure is that this used to be a wonderful place which has since fallen in a state of disrepair and neglect. It was dirty with broken furniture and very worn bedding. Upon arrival the first thing we did was call back the cleaning service and re-wash (assuming they washed anything) all of the linens. Only two or three of the bedrooms felt inhabitable and the basement wasn't fit for anyone. The outside was nice - providing the public access area next to it wasn't in use. This property also shares the lakefront with two other houses but thankfully we were the only ones around. the kitchen was well equipped but showing signs of neglect. The eating area was nice too. Grass was long and needed cut which never was during the whole week. That didn't help the mosquito situation. We affectionately referred to it as "the frat house". We won't be back.
We have a great time up at The Maine House. Would recommend it for small or large groups!
Our Team stayed in the Maine House for the US National Cross Country Ski Championships in Rumford, ME. There were 21 people, 17 College Athletes and 4 coaches. The house worked out great for our stay. All the Athletes had there own beds and the coaches were able to stay in our own section of the house for our own privacy. We cooked in every night and the kitchen and dinning areas made this very easy to accommodate. Our group eats a ton of food and we found there to be plenty of storage and cooking amenities to prepare many great meals. The living room was great for team meetings and simply hanging out in front of the fire place.
If you have a large group we would recommend the Maine house. We look forward to being back there for future ski races in the area.

We decided to rent the Maine House to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday! My brothers and sisters and their families all joined us for a total of 32! I have a big family and we vacation a lot together and this is the first time everyone had a bed! The Maine House is very big with lots of places to spread out. The great room has a wonderful fireplace which made is so warm and cozy! The kitchen table is fantastic. Everyone had a chair and it was warm on the porch too! Beds were comfortable and kitchen is huge with lots of good appliances. I will say too that this is the first house we have ever stayed at with great water pressure! With 7 bathrooms everyone can take a shower at the time and it doesn't effect the pressure!! Amazing! We went tubing and skiing at Mt Abram which is only a 7 minute drive and Sunday River which is about 20 minutes away. We brought our own snowmobile and were able to go right from the property onto the frozen lake which lead to many groomed trails in the woods! Tons of fun! The kids went sleding right in the yard because there is a good hill. I liked the mudroom it is so convient in keeping all the ski's and wet snow stuff out of the house. The Maine house was great and I would definitely recommend staying there. It looks like it would be fun in the summer too because you are right on the lake. They had lots of canoes, and kayaks, lifejackets, big grills and fire pits! It's a great house!
