Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 queen sleeper sofa, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 4-6

Huge rock pillars hold you on the side of the mountain. Be lulled to sleep by the sound of the cool water stream cascading over waterfalls. Awaken to the sight of a glorious sunrise over the mountains beyond and below. Several decks available pick to suit your mood. Never had a tree house as a child? We have the perfect deck for you. If you are a person who enjoys the outdoors this is the place for you.

The retreat is on a 14.3 acre property so you will not see your next door neighbor. We also have a trail next to the house which leads to the Bartlett Creek Falls. Over one of these falls there is an additional deck with a table and chairs to enjoy lunch. Not only does this deck overlook the falls, but it affords a spectacular view of a wall of rock and rhododendron. The locals call the house the 'Round House' which is actually a 15-sided house supported by the 15 massive rock pillars.

The following pictures will show you that we have furnished the house with American made Lexington and Bob Timberlake pieces as well as made in the USA accessories wherever possible. We have a diverse selection of books and games for you to use as well as a satellite TV with VHS and DVD players. There is also a CD/radio player. The kitchen has most of the general things needed. Additional dishes are located in the antique pine cupboard. Adjacent to the kitchen area on the large deck outside is a gas grill and a large table with six chairs. The gas cylinders are provided.

The master bedroom has a connected private bath with a Jacuzzi tub. The other bath is accessible from the main hall. There are two bedrooms and one sleeper sofa. Linens and towels are located in the closet across from the washer dryer. The house will accommodate 4 to 6 people.

We must tell you about the locals. Turkeys love to hang out near Rocky Falls. On sunny days they usually appear in twos, but on a misty morning whole flocks can be heard hiding undercover. Our Pileated woodpecker is often heard, sometimes seen. This is the one that looks like Woody Woodpecker and was recently seen on the tree next to the house. We have lots of warblers, always fun to watch, some of them disappear and reappear like magicians. A little Carolina wren trusted us enough to leave her eggs and babies in the house on the deck this spring. Watching mom and dad feed their brood was lovely entertainment. Deer are around, but not as abundant here as in grassier locations. We have built a little bear fortress for our recycles and trash. Bear have been sighted nearby, so we are very careful not to leave anything out that might attract them. Our raccoon friend is sneaky. He usually steal only one sneaker if you leave sneakers on the porch. The sneaker can usually be found in the stream near the house. We spent our honeymoon in September 2002. We had a wonderful experience in this home. Everything they say about it is absolutely true, it is an amazing place to spend time. We highly recommed it to everyone.

Absolutely awesome! So glad we chose to stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 6 women stay at Rocky Falls Retreat on a girl's weekend trip. I must say that what we found when we arrived, exceeded our expectations. The view was absolutely awesome! Four of the ladies on our trip were pretty nervous about driving in the mountains (due to the winding roads) and, because of that, had never really stayed anywhere in the mountains. When they arrived at Rocky Falls Retreat, the looks on their faces were priceless! They all agreed that the trip was totally worth it and they all want to come back again! I never met with Gary and Gail in person (even though they did stop by to do some repairs on the lower floor) but I did speak with Gary on the phone and he was so nice and accommodating. He answered all my questions and even called the house while we were there to check and make sure we had made it okay and if there was anything we needed. We came when the weather was pretty chilly (even had some snow on the ground in some places) so we didn't get to spend a lot of time looking around the grounds, but stayed plenty toasty with the fire in the fireplace. We all agreed that we would LOVE to come and see the house when it gets warmer so we can truly enjoy the stream and the many little waterfalls that run along the property. One of my most favorite parts of the house was standing outside on the deck, watching the sunrise and hearing the sounds of the stream. The only issue we encountered was having a little bit of difficulty turning around on the driveway. If you have a smaller vehicle, there probably wouldn't be an issue, but we drove a Chevy Traverse and had to back down the driveway a bit to the shed (where the driveway spreads out a bit more) to turn around and back up to the house again. No big deal, but something we didn't count on when we arrived. Overall, the place was clean, nicely furnished, had polite and very accommodating owners, awesome view, beautiful grounds, and was way cheaper (and far more fun) than getting hotel rooms. Everyone loved it and we all have already discussed planning a trip to come back and stay again! So glad we chose to stay here! Thank you Gary and Gail for letting us utilize your beautiful home!

Very Unique Rental!!

  • 4 of 5

Everything wrapped up in one. Very secluded (but still close enough to town), a beautiful view, the sound of the creek, and that gas fireplace rounded out the package. Unit was very well stocked and the master bed slept soooooo good. The drive-way was a little hard to find, especially after dark. We have recommended this place to many of our friends, and we hope to come again.

Property was as discribed, beautiful, clean, and quiet.

Property was as described. Gary was very easy to deal with, friendly, and accommodating.

Had a few things I had to verify with him about, never a problem when I called him. Very friendly, and courteous.

Gave us hits on activities in the area, and places to see.

All in all a very delightful stay, with a gorgeous view.

Thank You Gary!

Secluded Property

  • 4 of 5

A great property for the price, however, we feel the need to clarify some of the descriptions. A political junkie, imagine my surprise when we discovered there was no satellite TV. In fact, it's an over the air antenna pointed at Charlotte yielding about 25 working channels. Only the majors ABC, CBS and NBC. No dish and no satellite. Additionally, no internet service. It's in a dead spot and the owner advises you to use your phone to access "hot spots" for service. Works sporatically for email and Facebook but no internet whatsoever! Directions cold be more clear, but the beds were comfortable and everything works. Decks were great and the "falls" sounded amazing but steps down were dangerous and the climb up is steep.

Owner's Response: These renters were the worst we have ever had in 20 years of rentals. They were rude and obviously ignored the signs to the falls that advised “CAUTION: FALLS ARE SLIPPERY PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK”. This couple also went beyond ropes to destroy vegetation near the falls. We do not advertise satellite TV, most people are happy with 25 channels. As to the internet access, we do not advertise this either, but we helped this party use their phone to do just that and they were able to connect to the internet just fine.. We cannot be expected to educate the ignorant. They disregarded the main rule, “LEAVE THE HOUSE AS YOU FOUND IT !”. Gluey stickers were left on the floor, dirty linens everywhere, 6 huge bags of garbage (for 2 people), broken wooden cutting board, rearranged furniture and dishes, bagged up contents of cupboards and left excrement on bathroom wall.

Rocky Falls Retreat

Amazing! The cabin is wonderful, well decorate, very, very clean, modern, fresh, and cozy. The views from the cabin are astonishing. We had there everything that we need. From the cabin we could go to many places in Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as near to Asheville. All the places we visited were wonderful. We strongly recommend to stay in this cabin and visit the places surrounding it. We are really satisfied with our stay.
