Cathy and Jay are the proud owners of this amazing 1880 classic Maine Beach house. We also have a 2 person beach cottage on Moody Beach, Maine ( #168752) and a condo on Daytona Beach (#360335) that we enjoy sharing! Cathy is a retired chief of police and has been a full time realtor since 1996. Jay owns Navajo Painting and manages our properties with tender loving care!
Cathy Manchester purchased this cottage in 2002
I have been selling real estate in Maine since 1996. When I walked into this cottage in 2002, I fell in love with it the moment I stepped inside! It is the most peaceful and relaxing place I have ever been. Summer days sitting on the porch smelling the roses and watching the waves... evenings sitting in from of the fire or around the campfire, and falling asleep to the sound of the surf! Absolutely amazing! It is terribly difficult to do anything other than RELAX here!
We are so close to the water that during a storm you might feel the waves reach the porch! There is a wonderful corner store/breakfast place just a minutes walk away and two restaurants within walking distance. You will feel like you are the only house on the beach..... and you are!
The description was quite accurate as far as location, amenities and layout. The single bed is in the laundry room on the first floor. If you like to use washcloths, you need to bring extras along-only 4 were provided. Also, couldn't find any hot mats for handling hot pots and pans. The property was clean and well-maintained for a beach cottage. You might need to bring along a power strip if you have any electronics like a phone and iPads. The sink has an insinkarator for a garbage disposal unit which I didn't figure out till midweek that you just put the drain plug in the drain and turn it to make it work. We had company for a cookout on Sunday and the propane ran out and the extra tank in the garage was empty. The owner came over in the afternoon the next day when we emailed her to replace the tank. Fortunately, most of the food was cooked before it ran out. The grill was nice and big and had a side burner. Plenty of wood in the garage for the indoor fireplace and outside fire pit. You will need to pick up kindling and fire starters at Hannaford's to start the fire. Great location with lots of places to pick up lobsters cooked or not, restaurants, ice cream stands and close to Old Orchard Beach. Ice cream truck comes through regularly and a trolley goes right by the cottage to go to Old Orchard and Kennebunk. Thursday and Friday nights there were fireworks between 9-10pm you can watch from the front porch. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend it to a friend and we hope to return again ourselves.
The cottage was perfect for our family with 7 adults and 3 toddlers. Being so close to the beach was invaluable with the babies! We ate dinner outside on the shady picnic bench overlooking the ocean almost every night and the large kitchen made it easy to work together. The front porch overlooks the ocean and was perfect for relaxing in the afternoon. Once evening hit, the beach was nearly private for whiffle ball and evening enjoyment. The general store is just a minute's walk away as were fantastic lobster rolls. Can't wait to return!
My family and I had a great week at the beach. This house is awesome! Very clean, well maintained, and family friendly. The location is perfect - right on the beach and within walking distance from a great restaurant and store that has a little bit of everything and anything that you may need. I would absolutely recommend this house to any friend and/or relatives looking to rent in the area! Thanks again for a great week!! :)
Best location on the beach, house was perfect in every way. Would stay here again with my family.
Only suggestion, garden hose to wash sand off feet before entering house.
What a great house! And right on the beach within very short walking distance of a cute shop/restaurant. We got ice cream every night! The deck and hammock were fabulous. We watched the sunrise and sunset every day. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for cooking, including lobster tools. People on the beach were jealous that they had to walk to the beach, and we could just step out of our house. We highly recommend this beach house!
Spent Labor Day weekend at this wonderful home for a girls weekend. Waking up directly on the beach was amazing, the General Store a few minutes down the street was quaint and convenient and the house was a quintessential Maine beach house. The house had plenty of space, everything that was mentioned in the write-up was included and the homeowner was wonderful to work with. We had a fabulous time and cant wait to go back!!
Other Activities: great walking trails, state park, kayak rentals and boat tours nearby
