The sitting room has comfortable leather seating, an open fireplace and a 47 inch flat screen TV with Satellite and DVD... all making it the perfect place to sit back, unwind and admire the spectacular ocean scenery. There is central heating, free Wireless Internet (Wifi) and a kitchenette with a separate washer and dryer. Three patio areas grace the outside along with garden furniture and a circular driveway with lots of parking and privacy. All towels and linen supplied.
My husband and I stayed just 6 nights at this house but would have gladly stayed much longer. House is fully equipped and exactly as shown in pictures...well really better than the pictures show. Bed was extremely comfortable and the turf fire was great. Local highlights were the friendly locals in at Gala market and Paddy Coyne's (great meals here for great prices), Glassilaun beach in Renvyle and the beach just down the road from the house (not sure of the name), Kylemore abbey and Connemara National Park. We were greeted the morning of our stay by Sinead - even though we were early she was extremely friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to return for another great stay here.
My husband and I had a marvelous 2 week stay at this lovely home. The views of the countryside and ocean were superb from the patios, kitchen, living room, and especially the dining room. The beds were comfortable, and the house immaculate. If there was a need, help was just minutes away. I would highly recommend!
Julie's home is wonderful. We Canadians spent a most warm comfortable week on the ocean, enjoying the spectacular views from every window dawn to dusk. The house was spacious, clean and well suited to daily outings to the far reaches then coming HOME, to a gourmet kitchen with arms loaded with the bounty of the land and sea. Each night we stayed up late by the peat fire, (our first) with glasses replenished often, then retired to very comfortable beds, to repeat the next day.
Michelle was very pleasant and helpful with any detail. Loved our lunch at Ashford Castle in the cottage, and a Sean Keane concert in Tullycross just down the road. Made us feel Irish.
Thank you Julie and Michelle. We'd gladly recommend you home and the area to friends and family.

What a magical week we had at Makeelan House. I have stayed in many self catering properties all over the world but Makeelan House was by far the best. The house itself is beautifully decorated with all the latest mod cons but so very comfortable. The beds were more comfortable than our own at home. The kitchen is just fantastic and has everything you could possibly need and more. The views are to die for and my family and I were blown away on waking our first morning and opening the curtains. The house has been designed to take advantage of the views from practically every room in the house so that even on days of not going anywhere, just looking out of the window is such a treat. We managed to explore a lot of the local area and there is so much to see and do, everywhere we went the food was superb with some of the most tasty fresh fish we have ever had. The most special thing for us was the local people - we were given such a warm welcome wherever we went. Julie, the owner of the property has been wonderful to deal with and Julie's sister Debbie very kindly popped in to check that all was okay - she was also wonderfully warm and helpful. Michelle, the property caretaker is fantastic. They all couldn't do enough for us. We are missing everything about our special trip very much and will definitely be back and I can't imagine staying anywhere other than Renvyle and Makeelan House.
We are so lucky.
We found this wonderful house 2013 on home away and we booked it for the first time. It was SO great that we booked it this January 2016 again - and it was delighting and absolutely stunning like the last time.
Julie, the owner, is SO nice and the house is a dream.
Perfectly located with seaview, wonderfully equipped on a high standard. The rooms are really good, modern and well furnitured, we love the kitchen with the big windows and place for all... It is HIGHLY recommended from us.
Everybody who will rent this property is really lucky.
We will come back again...and again...and again.
All the best!!
A spectacular house with amazing views that go on forever...it really is one of the best locations in all of Ireland. Historic castles, picturesque beaches, and medieval ruins are all right outside your door. The house itself is spacious, modern, tastefully decorated, and immaculately clean. The area around Renvyle has several exceptionally good places to eat, and the people in the neighborhood are genuinely friendly and helpful. I couldn't recommend it more, and hope to return someday.
Located on the scenic Connemara coastline, nestled between the mountains and the sea, Makeelan House sits on a hill overlooking the 14th century Renvyle Castle and miles of breathtaking Atlantic views. Whether you are looking for an activity filled vacation, a romantic getaway or simply a place to relax and recharge...you are sure to find it here!
The cottage lies 3 km from the acclaimed Renvyle House Hotel and less than 20 km from Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey and gardens, Scuba Dive West and the Killary Adventure Center. In the immediate area there is golfing, horse riding, walking, hiking, bicycle hire, shore fishing and Renvyle boasts some of the most magnificent, unspoiled beaches in Europe. Locally, there are grocery shops, pubs and restaurants. Within a 30 minute drive, there is shopping, boating, deep sea diving, surfing, hill climbing, island trips and boat fishing. Clifden town is just 24 km away and Galway city, Westport, Castlebar and Knock are less than a two hour drive and perfect for day trips. This charming, friendly area has something for everyone in your party to enjoy!
